There will always be competition and at some point you will have to face that reality if you want that niche go for it and own it.
To keep from competing with large websites, you need to really narrow down and focus your niche into a small piece of what the big dogs are doing. :) You will never be able to compete with them anyhow, so don't attempt to try it. That is why it is important to get your niche narrowed down to a doable level.

Definitely go with your niche idea and keep in mind that you are going to set it up uniquely your way with your own ideas and style as well as your expertise! Stay focused on what matters most to you and don't worry about the competition Its good to know about your competition and to be one step ahead with your own unique way of doing what it takes to succeed! Go for it do what you love to do and the rest will come full circle!
