My Plan for 2018: Wealthy Affiliate Reset

It's amazing how quickly things can change in a year. When I started 2017, I was reeling from the shock of losing my job and my position that I worked hard at for the last 5 years. I started working hard on my first website in January and even created a plan of action of sorts. I changed the theme of my website which actually fixed a problem I was experiencing from my previous theme.

In March, I got a brand new job and also got my very first affiliate sale from a product I was promoting as well as seeing revenue continue to rise from Google AdSense. I dabbled into the world of PPC, started getting more into the world of email marketing, and was even updating my website on a regular basis. I had such great momentum the first half of the year.

Things however, started to change and the great momentum bubble that had inflated the first of the year, had burst. I started getting comfortable in my new job (after some great struggles initially), got myself deeper into debt (I blame myself for that), and started getting distracted by shiny objects which continued to the end of this year. I stopped updating my website on a regular basis because I just lost the will to post content because I feared nobody was reading it and it just wasn't anything anyone cared about and I was getting frustrated that some of my posts weren't ranking.

I even briefly had thoughts of leaving WA, but then I quickly shut that down as I realized if I did that then the last 3 to 4 years here would've truly been wasted, especially since I was starting to see some great things in the first half of 2017. I guess the biggest thing that frustrated me or made me disappointed is that I'm not making the income online that I've always been dreaming about and I let myself get distracted and lose my motivation and will to work on my website (as well as my 2nd website).

I did watch the last 2 training videos recently though, the one by Jay last night and the one by Kyle before that and I have to say that it was a big awakening. How can you expect success if you don't immerse yourself in the niche you've chosen? Not only that, but what they have both said about the importance of writing things down in a journal will help IMMENSELY. I realize I've stopped immersing myself in the niche I'm in because I started losing interest or at least felt that I didn't have time to do proper research. I also believe that I've forgotten some things from the training especially when I originally went through it all a few years ago and while I did start the training again earlier this year, I had stopped.

So now my goal this year is to do a complete reset at WA. I'm going to FULLY go through the training again, I'm going to take what Kyle and Jay have said to heart about writing in a journal especially about anything that might pop into my head, I'm going to be doing A LOT more research into my niche and try and connect with others in it to see what their biggest problems or issues are, and last but not least, start adding content on a regular basis again even if I don't feel people will enjoy it. I never know who might find my content valuable and as Kyle has said once before, content is better than no content. Wish me luck folks as I want to stick to this pattern for the entirety of 2018, not just for part of the year.

Isn't it nice that we always have WA to fall back on and start over again? Good choice, I think, Defiant. Keep us informed as we go through the year, OK? Carol

Great story, thank you for posting. This story depicts what many of us have experienced.
As you said, the answer is usually in the training.
Have a prosperous and healthy New Year

Great inspiration! I needed to read this:) Thanks so much for sharing your heart:)
Blessings:)

Good for you. I think a lot of us feel like same way you do. Good luck next year!

Brian, thanks for sharing not only the phases of your time at WA but the results. We learn in many ways but learning by example may reduce heartache for some of us. Best of success in 2018. Jay

Reflection and recorrection is a great thing Brian and WA helps us get there!

I read your post with great interest as I accomplished most of my goals in my first year (2016) at WA, but recently suffered a great embarrassment when I read my goals for 2017. I accomplished very few if any of my goals and like you have to get back on track.

This year I am starting each month with 3 objectives that I am determined to accomplish by the end of each month - no excuses.

It was interesting what you said about Jay's and Kyle's recent training sessions. I will complete them tomorrow, before 2017 is over. Thanks for the kick in the pants. I really needed it!

Hi Defiant,
Love that name, now you're living it. Keep up the good work & interest will spark again.
I too get awefully distracted and have to saw the reins back and forth to get my horse to behave.
Good luck with the New Year nearly upon us.
Cheers Jae

Thanks for sharing Brian. I am rooting for you.
All the best and much success for 2018 and beyond!!

Happy New Year!
David

Remember, learning from our mistakes is one of the biggest things in life! Without our struggles and continued failures, we wouldn't rise from the ashes like a phoenix to set our what we truly were meant to do! Keep at it my friend and best of luck to you moving forward in this new year.
