Writer's Block: Is It Real?

Writer's Block: Is it real? Well, in my opinion, yes and no, maybe, sometimes, it is real. There is a ton of literature, and a super ton of studies about it. There could be reasons:

1. Out of inspiration-- if you use Kyle's alphabet soup you will blow your circuits with ideas. Get an idea, just one and see where it will take you. Then stay focused enough to write about one of those ideas.

2. Distractions-- talk to me: the Queen of Distractions.

3. The "idea" is too big. (Talk to me about this too.) I have actually experienced this in writing a novel. It's now tamed, but one more revision (after six) is in the offing. Really, the idea was always too big. Read people's training and advice here on narrowing down, not one of my strong suits, being a big picture girl, even though I graduated in marketing. Go figure. Watch Jay's training on niches. Watch Kyle's training on niches. There's niche advice all over this platform.

4. Circumstance-- this one is personal and it may be difficult, very difficult. I have read about successes here over tremendous odds. What I do know is that some of the greatest achievements in history have come out of difficult circumstances. If you are here, and it is something we can help with, let us help. We will try.

Writer's block is not new and it is not going away. But here I am writing (after thinking about it all day long). I didn't really waste that time, though. I did clean up 400 emails; and that is something that had to get done.

I admit the technical side of setting up a website nearly did me in, but here I am waiting on some company (in this case, Mail Poet) to verify me, and I'm thinking: OK WRITE. So I go to my website-- past all the activity-- and I remember my goal to socialize, and to help, which are also really important, and which are also teaching me many skills to help me along this pursuit.

And so, you might say I procrastinated actual writing all day long. But I know this much about myself, that if I start, it will come, and I will do it. For me, the only way I get over writer's block is to start. And once I start, I am committed to filling in the blanks. You see, if I don't finish this tonight, I will find it staring me in the face tomorrow morning-- And that will be alright, because I will finish it then.

If you want to, you can go down the rabbit hole online and find all kinds of books about Writer's Block (I can't wait to get hooked up with Amazon, so I can talk about books for profit). If you want to, reading is an excellent way to procrastinate.

Hold on there-- I love to read. And there is absolutely no better way to learn how to write, except writing itself, but doing's in the doing, writing's in the writing. So start. Don't have writer skills, rather than be a writer.

Learn along the way. Read the books. Write. Read more books. Write. ETCETERA.

So yes, you can study and learn about what to do about Writer's Block, but you could just START. Just do it. I love cliches.

Writer's block can be a case of when not if, finding our way through it recognizing, the onset and developing ways to get over it in the quickest amount of time, can be the work in progress.

Thanks for your thoughts, one thing about the community is that we can tap into that shared experience, one of the first stops can be just to write anything just to get that energy flowing again.

Best wishes.

That has become my motto "just do it". I could procrastinate all day but I also know that if I just start it will happen. And, I feel much better about getting it done.
