As of 1 Apr, I have not been getting email notifications from AOL. I have
-checked my spam and trash
-checked my settings in WA
-put WA in my AOL contacts.
Any

Change to gmail or yahoo. I was trying to send a file to one of our member here using AOL and she can't receive it. But she received it finally using other email.
My short cut. :)

I hate doing that as I can see AOL on my phone AND I've been getting email from WA for years on Verizon/AOL. Very frustrating.

How do I get a photo within a page/post to enlarge when it is clicked on? I used the media button to insert my photo but it won't enlarge when visitor clicks on it.

See, we all learned something. :-) Love it!

Thanks, I didn't know you could do this!
Ed

I see you solved your case, thanks for the quiz welcome

Look how Marion enlarge the kitten image using Gallery Custom Links. I hope this helps.

I just looked at her training. Thank you.

I use Thrive Content Builder which has that functionality built in to it.
Tom

I'll check it out. I thought Lightbox was working. :-(

This is generally done with a "lightbox" widget in WordPress themes. Images don't enlarge when clicked by themselves. So there has to be some extra code to do that.

There are themes that have lightbox capabilities. Look in your Dashboard under Appearance > Widgets, and see if you see a Lightbox widget there.

Otherwise, you can search Wordpress.org under the Themes link searchbox for "lightbox"; and then under the Plugin link searchbox for the same.

Hope that helps :)
--Fran

Thanks. I looked. It's not there. :-( I'll go into http://Wordpress.org
Thanks. Found Lightbox.....it works. THANK YOU.;

You're welcome. There all sorts of choices there. ;)

I just tried a couple other photos and they didn't work. Ugh, frustrating.

You mean it worked with one image an not another? I don't know anything about that plugin, but maybe there is a checkbox that has to be checked on a per image basis? Read through their documentation and see, if you have time.

Otherwise, if time is of the essence, using a theme or plugin that someone specifically recommends is a sure way to go. ;)

Unfortunately I don't have any specific recs; just generally pointing you in the right direction.
:D
--Fran

Yes, it worked with one image but not any of the others which is strange. I was excited for a minute. Still playing but I appreciate all your help.

Was this a plugin called "Lightbox", Debbi?
I'll load it on my test site after dinner and see how it works.
Will PM you with what I find out, if that's okay.
--Fran

Yes, it was called Lightbox. Don't worry. I'll keep trying. I don't want you to take time away from your stuff.

Debbi, I loaded the plugin into my test site, and even tried another one. They all seem to have the same requirement. That is the image that you want to click open into a lightbox must be linked! And the link must point to the actual jpg or png file for the image.

This means that it won't work for a "feature image" in many (or most?) themes; because the feature image doesn't show up in the HTML editor for the page or the post. And you need to add the link to the actual image file with the HTML editor.

If this is enough information, experiment with one image, and if it works, you know what to do. Otherwise, PM me and I can send you screenshots of how to set this up easily.

One other thing; be sure to empty your cache between tests.

--Fran

Will give it another shot.....I can NOT thank you enough for all your work!!!!!!

I don't mind, seriously; I'm very glad to help. I'm an experienced programmer; but haven't worked with WordPress until arriving at WA a month or so ago. So checking out plugins and themes helps me, too. Don't hesitate to PM me if you have a question or get into a problem with it.

--Fran

I didn't realize you were a programmer. Now it all makes sense. lol. I'm checking out your profile and thank you again. I'll let you know how it works out. ~Debbi

Is there anyone else, I know there's a couple of us, that is having a problem cut/pasting from Word/Notepad into your blog?

I have no problems. I write using word. Paste it in view mode using the W option in the WP editor
John

see you have received some good advice hope you have resolved the problem

Hmmm, never heard of sublime. Will check it out. Thanks

you will like it

Are you pasting in text mode? It is important to the formatting.

Not me

If you're copying docs with links, your whole work could be all over the place when you paste in WP.
Ade

Oh no, I wasn't using links.

Hey Debbi,

If you are going from Word to Notepad first and then to WordPress, that really shouldn't cause you any trouble, as long as Notepad didn't change the formatting (which it doesn't usually).

Since you aren't worrying about formatting anyway (because you are going from Word->Notepad first) you could try using the W icon which will copy from Word. It's not perfect but it will bring most of what you have done (and even some limited Word formatting) into your WordPress.

Best Regards,
Jim

not an issue for me, oh the random nature of technology, I am sure that leprechauns have a hand in this somewhere...

Don't rule out gremlins, either! LOL

yup. make sure you are in text mode 1st. I resigned to edit it after I cut and past to save time.

I haven't had that problem. Are you putting into the text area first?

Yep.

Hmmm, that's strange. Hopefully someone will be able to figure it out for you.

I've always had this problem so I never cut/paste, however, one of the members PM me. She said she's asked some others and they have the same problem so I'm here asking the question from the gurus.

Got my link to work in my blog. Figured out what I was doing wrong. Wasn't highlighting text in blog. Thanks to everyone that responded. It made the wheels click.

well i highlighted my text as per the lesson and they still wont work

In the question section of WA, if you type in "creating links", you'll find blogs (including some by Kyle) that should give you all the information you need to fix your links.

Good deal!

The basics catch me out sometimes too lol.

glad you worked it out well done :)

the technical issues might differ however the feelings of "aaargh" and the "oooh" when we find a way through whatever is blocking us do not.
It is the same process the whole WA world over.
Well done- the lesson is not about links etc. I tell myself it is about how we learn.
Andy

Glad you figured it out.
Brenda

Learning, isn't if fun. I'm glad you are up and going again. May you be moving forward always!

Nice to get over hurdles. I remember having trouble understanding links.

silly

Glad you figured it out. It is always a great feeling when things finally click they are supposed to =) Now you will know the answer the next time someone is having the same issue.

How do I add affiliate links to blogs. They work on my pages but not on my blogs/posts.

I screwed up my website by getting ahead of myself...if I delete the site will the pages "about me" and "getting started" stay available...I have content on the theme page but no links to my about me and getting started...also the theme suggested in the video to start seemed to be titled "page lines" and I can not find it in theme search

Hi Dave, I'm not sure I understand your question. However, if you go onto your profile at the top, you'll see the word "Question". Hit that and ask your question. There are a lot of smart people here and someone can answer.

Hi, again, Sui-generis and a great question! I joined WA back in Oct 22, and had already been "blogging", so when I started here, I just went on with what I knew and BANG... 4 of my straight Blogs were knocked out, band or as is said amongst us respectable folks, BLOCKED! Why? I asked and 3 or 4 discussion later with Kyle, I then realized that my blogs were 'overly commercial' trying to sell something with picture, graphics, Affiliate Links and things and the usual A.I.D.A. outline: 1.-Get reader's attention; 2.-Create Interest in what you are trying to sell; 3.-Incite Desire to buy; and, 4.-Ask for Action like ask for the order! So, as far as I can determine, our "blog" at WA is for 'internal consumption' only --- meaning for other WA members who have already gave at the office and therefore the RULES prohibit such things. On your sites, there is NO problem, on on your WA Blog take a look again at the "rules" or ask Kyle! Good Luck my good friend.

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't trying to sell as much as being helpful. It was on the last post. I thought people might like to see (or purchase) the book Hiking Through. Thanks for the insight.

I'm slow you got it done-- good job

Problem solved! The help here is great!

see Wayne has give the answer and it is good for me to know this to

See, you ARE awesome, but I did figure it out last night. THANK YOU.

Glad you got it!

I have no problem on my pages by using the text tab but I just can't get them to work on my blogs. I tried linking. I copied the HTML link from my affiliate, went to my post, pasted and nothing. It seems like it should work.

HI Sui, Are you trying to paste the links on the sidebar? If so, you need to go to widgets to be able to paste the link. Otherwise, you can only paste them on the space below your whole content.

Just go to posts then. Copy your HTML link from your affiliate, then go to your post/blog you want the link to go, then paste it on the exact space where you want it shown.

Just as you add them to pages. There is no difference
John

You need to paste the html links into the Text tab of your editing screen. It will then be an image in your Visual tab.
