I wish to provide hosting as part of my business. Could you guide me through how I may offer this service on WA platform?

Candy Benn

This is an interesting question. We have no experience with this. But are curious who this would actually work. So if you would use your WA membership to host other's sites. we are wondering how to login would work. This is something we haven't thought about so are interested in learning from your responses.

Some members use their membership to provide hosting. This will be a first for me which is why I asked the question.

I have some ideas but no experience.

Candy Benn

Hey Candy,

Do you mean you want to host wesbites for others via your Premium Membership?

If so, there's 3 ways that I would do it.

Plus, don't take the prices I state as final, these are just examples, charge what you want.

1. If you want to offer a straight up hosting service then I would charge annually.

It would be the same as shared hosting, which you can get for around $2.50 - $13 a month.

So, I'd go in the middle somewhere, lets say $8.

That would mean $96 per year.

Plus you get the SSL certificate with siterubix hosting.

You could offer the equivalent of Domain Validation certificate, which typically costs anywhere from $8-$60.

Again, I'd go somewhere in the middle, so let's say $34.

So, your total is $130, I'd call this $129.99 for annual hosting with SSL certificate (really sell the SSL certificate - "Protects Visitor Data, Your Website is marked as secure, can help with SEO).

Now this is what I would offer for a brand new website, or fairly new, or low traffic site.

You can then simply increase prices based on age and traffic (so, even though everyone gets exactly the same service, you can have a tiered set of prices based on monthly traffic, obviously remember the 250,000 max unless you upgrade to Premum Plus).

So, a website receiving 10,000+ monthly visitors you may charge $199.99.

A website receiving 25,000+ monthly visitors you may charge $249.99.

And so on (remember I'm just making prices up as I go along, although I feel their fairly accurate. I'm sure some members charge these fees on a monthly basis and somehow "get away with it")

Don't forget this may involve domain/nameserver changes, etc. I'm sure there's training for that here.

Basically, the domain will need to show on your domains list (I think), someone else will know that better than me.

2. You could offer a website creation service plus "FREE" one year hosting.

So, you price the hosting exactly as above and you charge additional for creating a website.

Let's say you purchase the domain name, set up wordpress, add an About Me page, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer Page (based on niche). You create the content (using the templates in SiteContent).

You could charge say $399.99 and say this includes a year's hosting.

You then provide WP username and password (which you create in Site Manager).

You could also charge extra for "SEO work", so installing SEO, Image Optimizer, SiteKit plugins.

You could even take it a step further and charge for analytics (you create a new gmail account and set up GSC and GA).

The price obviously goes up with the greater service you offer.

3) You can do exactly the same as number 2, but say you only offer hosting for the first 3 months.

This way you can charge a slightly lower price, say $249.99 and after 3 months you can "free up your hosting" so you can do this again and again.

That's just a few ideas.

As I say pricing is down to you.

You'll have to research further, but these are the oprions I would offer.

Hope that helps.

Partha

Hi Partha,

Thank you very much for the great response. You gave far more than I expected and I am extremely grateful. I will be employing several of your suggestions.

Could someone please remind me which theme is available to starter members?
I went over to the lesson but I don't see the name mentioned. I don't want to create a starter a

Yes, Generatepress is the best among many bloggers.

There are other alternatives you can choose, like WP Puzzle, Iconic One, Hiero, Weaver Xtreme. I use these theme on my sites. All of them work fine.

One thing you may want to consider, is check how frequent the theme do the update. This is important to keep your site secure and prevent virus attacking your website.

All the best and enjoy blogging from today.

Generate Press... is very easy and has lots of features.

Thank you.

Appreciate your answer.

Candy Benn

hey hi Candy,

the starters' default wordpress theme is Generate Press free ... and as Phil have indicated the back up themes are available and as Rudy have said -- many, many free themes ...

however, as Generate Press is simple, easy to work with and mobile friendly ... that'll be the WAy to go ...

all the very best, cheerio ... :))

Ok default, Generate press. That's what I am interested in. I am surprised to hear there are others I really remember being offered one theme.

I didn't realize others were offered before upgrading.

Thank you very much.

Candy Benn

*** indeed, you're very welcome! ... happy to be of help! ...

hope it all works out well for you, cheerio ... :)) ***

starters get generatepress and the backup wordpress themes...
twenty twenty-one, twenty twenty and twenty nineteen
so in effect they do get four...but are advised and have automatically activated generatepress...

Really? I only remember getting access to one while I was a starter member. It may well have been Generate Press. I just can't remember.

Are you sure there are others available to them before they upgrade?

Appreciate your response.

Candy Benn

yeah... most don't realise that they have access to the others.. i have seen some using twenty twenty-one and it is very limited....
those three come as standard bundled with wordpress...
if you create a test siterubix site and pick the first theme ( generatepress) then you will find out what they get....
but i wouldn't recommend using the defaults as a serious theme ...just something to get by on and see the site if your theme goes belly up...

Thank you very much Phil.

Candy Benn

When you get to the section to create your website, you will see hundreds of theme options offered.
The favored one to start is GeneratePress.

Is there a way to prevent the header and sidebar links from showing up when a page is published without using a plugin?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Candy

I think the answer lies within the theme you're using.
I'm thinking of switching to generate press for it's simplicity, versatility and fast loading reputation.

Melanie

That's what I use at the moment but the free version. I may need to upgrade.

Candy Benn

In Generate Press Pro you can cut out many different parts of site in order to (for example) create a landing page.
:-)
Richard

Great. Thank you Richard

Aaaaah so Candy, you want to create a FULL page with NO sidebar. Now I get it!

have you sorted this, Candy, or are you still looking?
If still looking, what theme are you using?
:-)
Richard

Richard I use Generate press. I am exploring several options.. will see which works best.

Benn

Hey Candy,

See screen print below...

Generate Press has to be THE best WP theme ever, as I've always found that simply Google searching for help... and POOF! there it is.

Think I've only ever had to submit a ticket... mmmm, maybe four times now... maybe three.

I truly LOVE this theme due to the EASE of finding help quickly... even when submitting a ticket.

Thanks a million Trish. I really want to keep running on Generate Press so changing would be a last resort. I really would explore all options first.

I am extremely grateful.

Have a blessed night.

Candy Benn

In case you haven't seen it, here’s a recent post from Rupert: :-)
Richard

Thank you for the information, Richard. I certainly missed it.

Candy Benn

Richard, This is great. I have used it and booked marked it for future reference.

It is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you Richard.

Candy Benn

You are welcome Candy
I hope you told Rupert4U as well!
:-)
Richard

I certainly did Richard.

Candy Benn

some themes like astra will allow you to turn these off on a page by page basis ...
without your theme allowing you to do this it is back to a plugin...like landing pages plugin...

Thank You.

Great info.

Candy Benn

If you use a page builder like Elementor, you can create a canvas page that is totally blank. No header, footer or sidebars.
When you edit the page, look on the right column under page layout. Click to see the options in the dropdown menu.

Hope you have found the solution!

Rudy

why use elementor when you can get a blank canvas in a theme...
no overhead for coding

Good question. Not sure that all themes have that option in the customize panel, and adding elementor is a good alternative without having to change themes.

Rudy

Thank you Rudy.

Will try it.

Do any of you use a program to link and manage your social media profiles? If so what do you use.

Anyone ever use plannable?

I would really like to hear about you

Hey Candy,

Having given auto-posting a try, I did not find the results worth continuing, so I am back to manually posting on social media.

All too often, social media platforms attempt to shutdown auto-posting, and I was forever chasing and fixing. Wasn't worth it for me.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you very much for this feedback Trish. This is very helpful.

lol Really, tho, you do what is good for you. And I do hope many good things come to you. :)

... Patty :)

I must look at this. I have been doing individual posts etc to each site. Does this mean you can do one “post” and send to multiple social sites.? What about when you have to upload in 1 format, EG , jpg. Or where you are limited on the number of words you can send? Does it cover all sites? Sorry, questions, questions…questions. It is a great idea though and thanks for sharing. I am really interested.

I have been told this is possible I am now exploring it.

Aside from coding or changing it in the style sheet, is there anyway for me to change the font size in a theme?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Candy Benn

I suspect there are some themes out there which are a bit more difficult to do this with, Candy! I use GeneratePress! I learned a little from the answers to your question!

Jeff

Candy Benn

I did, indeed, Candy! Thanks again!

Jeff

Yes you can, depending g on the theme and page editor/site builder used.
For the theme, check customize for options available.
If you are using any editor or page builder, in the style section, under typography, you can change the font style and size of text.

Rudy

Hi Rudy,
Thank you for responding. I went ahead and change to Generate Press and I will customize that.

I wanted something a little more fun for a site that markets children's books but the theme is just not easy to manage. Way different from the ones I am accustomed to.

I will do some major editing to the Generate press so it looks less formal and work with that.

Hope all is well with you.

Candy Benn

If you are able to use the pro version, you will have a host of options to help with the creative side tou are looking for.

Give a shout if you need any help along the way!

Rudy

That would be awesome Rudy. I will remember. Lets see how I do with my editing first.

Candy Benn
