So you wish to develop steady traffic to your website but who are these PEOPLE. They have characteristics. Do you know them?

Firstly, you must know who your target audience is and what are their characteristics. Then you appeal to their needs. This will help you to get the best out of your marketing effort.

Scenario

Think, are you looking to create a teaching site and your ideal target audience are teenagers living in the Caribbean?

Do you know the state of their curriculum? What are their needs?

Do you know that Mathematics has been a problem in the region's schools? Do you know what are the requirements for preparing for their school-leaving examinations for this subject?

How about English? Are you planning to make that your target subject? Do you know which version of English is written in our schools and recognized by our main examination body?

Do you begin to see how these things can help you to better build your business? Can you see that what work for one group may not work for another?

Here Are A Few Of Things You Should Know About Your Target Audience

  • Where do they spend their time?
  • How do they communicate
  • Their ages, qualifications, locations, jobs, hubbies
  • What are their needs
  • Which of their needs will your products or services meet?
  • There will be more that will apply only to the people in your niche

Ways To Identify Your Target Audience

1. Look at your present visitors/customers (if you already have)

  • find the shared characteristics among them
  • how many are returning customers that keep coming back.
    • What characteristics do they share
    • where are they from
    • who are the ones bringing in the most revenue
    • which are the ones buying little but steadily? These help you to remain in business.
    • Which are the ones costing you to lose money? Are they worth the expense/effort it takes to meet their needs?

Answering these questions on your returning customers may help you to meet others of their king

2. Develop your own Customer Identity(If you are now getting started this may work for you). Ask yourself

  • Who are your ideal customers
  • Age, gender, income, interest, business interests, etc
  • What are their needs

3. Check out the competition

Look at what your competition is doing. Who are they targeting? Check out their social media page

It is better to appeal fully to one group than to only partially appeal to several.

Check Out The Market Research

Yes there is market research available free of cost. Where?

Google Analytic And Bing Webmaster

All the great data is right there. What pages are getting the most visits? Where are they coming from? How are they finding you? What age group is most interested in my content.

Yes all this information and much more is available to you free of cost. Make good use of it.

Gather Your Data On Your Site

You may additionally gather data on your site. A simple questionnaire will do. Do not make it too long and be careful to choose your questions carefully so that you are able to reap the most benefit.

Make the answering process easy by using things like multiple choice questions with radio buttons. This makes it easy for the customers and they are more likely to assist you.

These are a few points that may assist you in building a profitable business. My research tells me that being able to identify your target audience is even more important when you are dealing with content marketing, social media marketing and SEO.

A busy post Candy,
I have a couple of young adults I tutor privately, and I have lost count of the number of English assignments I have done for school students.
Payment comes in different forms, lets just say I will not starve here.
Finding a target audience can be tricky, One thing that helped me was facebook advertising.
It is no where near as good as it used to be, where once you could create a custom audience, and dig right down to the magazines they read.
Finding an audience can be time consuming and cost money.
But once you tap into one then you should be able to build on it fairly quickly.
