Success Is Never Accidental

There is no such thing as Accidental Success unless you are playing the lottery and even then you need a ticket.

You put in the work and the pay off comes later.

Planning

Success begins with a plan.

In business it is always necessary to have a plan first. All business owners know this unfortunately when it comes to our websites we always seem to overlook this idea.

A website is a business like any other and planning is equally important here as well.

Here at WA much of this is already done for you. Today however I wish to talk about having a vision for your business.

When we got here we were taught to have a goal. That means what is it we intend to achieve through our work.

This was focused on our earning.

Your Business Vision

Have you ever stopped to visualize your website?

When I was studying at University we were taught to create a blueprint for our computer programs. The argument was that in the past many businesses preferred to use the ad-hoc method.

However, a higher percentage of programs succeeded when the blueprint was created first.

The plan was laid out for us at WA however how many of us actually had a complete vision of our websites, how it was going to be laid out and such?

We jumped in feet first and began to build. As our websites took shape we shifted things around and trimmed to get it to just where we want it to be. But did you ever think about starting over?

With your new found knowledge do you ever think I could have done better if I knew going in what I was really creating?

I did.

It's funny even though I knew about preparing a blueprint when writing a computer program I never really thought about doing it for a website because I was not taught to plan a website.

However as my sites and my knowledge grew I see the value of having a blue print.

Have a Blue Print

Think of your website like a house. With a blueprint in place you will be less likely to knock out walls later.

Have you in the process of building your website knocked out a few walls and rearranged things to accommodate/adjust your new knowledge?

This may have been necessary as you built your first site.

How about the third or fourth, however? Do you ever think that planning may help?

I certainly have.

When I built my first site I had a vision that has been adjusted many times. However by the time I completed the OEC training I was ready to tear down some walls and start over. I began think of our algorithms (program blueprints) that we did at University and I wished I had a blueprint for my sites too.

As I plan site 3 and 4 I promised myself I would not launch without a blueprint. More than that I will not do so until I complete the bootcamp training.

This way I would have a better picture of the final product before I begin, so as to avoid knocking out walls along the way.

What Should a blueprnt look like?

After doing research and some introspection I found that the one I prefer should have two plans.

One shows all your needs.

In this you may have logo, site name, domain name, ...

The other shows what the actual site laid out should look like including password protected areas if needs be.

Research

Once the plan is in place you research the process of accomplishing what you wish. You may learn how to create a table of content, password protect portions while allowing access to others, providing restricted access to some content and so forth.

It all depends on your vision.

Building Out Your Plan

Once your plan is in place you begin to build. Do not be overwhelmed by the plan. Take it in bite size portions.

The final output may take as long as you wish, it is your business but I dare say you will build faster and have fewer detours when you have a visible plan in place.

I like this line the most- success is when preparation meets opportunity- the opportunity is there but we must prepare for it with work (websites, good content, etc).

Of course, we do know some get those goodies and freebies like the proverbial manna from heaven but such luck is the privilege of just a lucky few in life. Funny thing is at times those that work hard are able to maximize those privileges if it falls their way

Indeed hard work pays off. Preparation before the hard work however, adds cohesiveness and direction and in many ways help you to better prepare to meet your goals.

It also prevents you from running really fast in the wrong direction.🤓

Thanks for your input Chris.

Great work Candy. I think a lot of us underestimate the power and need for Research. A business is meant to grow but unless you establish a direction growth may not happen or happen haphazardly.

That's where research comes in. To guide your growth steps and prepare you for every stage of your website blueprint.

Thanks for sharing.

That's just it Roberta. If we wish to have that cohesive feel we need to have a well laid out plan.

This is very practical advice for developing an online business or any business for that matter. It is interesting that you applied the blueprint method in one area of your without transferring it right away to your website. That's why this post is an important reminder for all of us.

Hi Jim,

The largest website I ever built before WA probably had 10 pages. I never applied it to business either. As a result I never saw the need. When we are in the situation we begin to assess what would make the process better and from that ideas are born.

Indeed every business should have a vision of some sort.

Thanks for your input Jim.

Candy, a super blog. You have hit the nail on the head with all your comments. Feet first is the way for most people. You're way sounds better.
Bux

Thanks Bux,

I know as a programmer it worked better for me and I tried both ways.

I know for sure this makes me feel more comfortable with my new sites too.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
