For Ntlhane and Other members struggling with HTTP/HTTPS mixed content errors.

Good morning From Guyana.

When I first got here I was greeted with HTTP/HTTPS mixed content errors like most of you. The only way I knew to fix this was by using codes.

Since I didn't want to take this route, I spent an entire day going through the training here and on the internet but just couldn't find one that worked.

There was one that used plugins and maybe that would have worked. However, I am generally opposed to using plugins, unless I don't have another option that is.

At the end of that day, after finding nothing that worked on my site, I used the only option I knew. Fixing it from the code.

What????

I promise it is very easy and you don't actually need to know codes to apply this fix.

Fixing HTTP/HTTPS Mixed Content Error in Seconds.

Fixing an HTTP mixed content error can be quite frustrating at times. Many people resort to using plugins to do this. While plugins may work, too many plugins can slow down your website.

Additionally to my mind fixing an HTTP mixed content error is so simple that installing a plugin

for this fix is the equivalent of trying to swat a mosquito with a 'fridge.

What is an HTTP mixed content error?

Today many sites are set to HTTPS. You can see this by viewing the URL of your website. It

should begin with HTTPS://. That HTTPS is an indication that all of the content on your website

is encrypted and therefore safe from eavesdropping and some other types of attacks.

However, when you add pictures to a page the picture is sometimes uploaded with an HTTP

instead of an HTTPS URL. This means that parts of your site (those pictures) are no longer safe.

How to Recognize an HTTP or HTTPS Mixed Content Error

Recognizing an HTTP/HTTPS mixed content error on your site is as simple as checking the

padlock in the address bar of your browser. Each post must be opened separately to check for

this error.

When you open a post check to see if there is an exclamation mark in the address bar. See an

example in the picture below. In some browsers (e.g. Opera) the colour of this padlock is

different.

If you click on the yellow exclamation mark on the padlock, you will see a message that looks

like the one in the picture below.

Why Are HTTP Errors Important?

HTTP errors can affect your page views since some browsers will send an error message to

visitors indicating that your site is unsafe.

Note:

Ensure you back up your site before attempting this fix. Changing codes that you don’t

understand can damage your site.

Now that you have backed up your site, let’s go.

You will need to check to see which picture in your post is causing the error and make the

change. Log into your WordPress back office.

Step1

Go to All Posts

Step 2

Open the Post that has the error

In my case, I’m fixing the Email Marketing Services Review. See the padlock at the top in this

view as well.

Step 3

Click on the first picture in your post. This will help you to identify the portion of codes

that you will be changing.

Step 4

Next, go to the Text View.

Step 5

The codes you wish to change will be in the selected portion like the one in the picture.

Step 6

Look for the HTTP in the highlighted codes. Add s to change it to HTTPS.

Step 7

Click on the Visual Tab.

Step 8

Go to the next image

Step 9

Repeat the process from step 1 until you have changed all the images to HTTPS.

Step 10

Click Update.

You are done.

Open your post in the browser to view it. If it is already open reload it. If you managed to change all the pictures the error would have disappeared.

Check all your other posts for this error.

I would very much appreciate your feedback. Any comment would be a good one. Your

comments will help me to improve on future tutorials.

Hey Candy, it seems like its been forever since I posted on a Candy blog, thats what happens you go on a break.

But wow, you have gotten real good. Soon you will become an ambassador if you go at this pace. Great info, keep them coming Ms. Benn 👌🤞

Awww, thank you, Chris.

Now ambassadorship is another thing altogether. I can't see myself posting here daily. Too much to do, too little time. Just happy I could help with this fix.

Have a great day.

Too much to do, too little time. Let's hope that Mr. Windfall comes calling after all the work "wink"

Looking at you Mr. Windfall $$ 😂

:-)

Thanks Candy, I had no idea, I assumed this was the job of the Host. Now, you spent a lot of time fixing this, wouldn't it be more convenient to download the plugin? I know you don't care for them, but the setting inside Site Content, at bottom we are allowed to set speed to Extreme. Have you done that? And I also thought that catche cleaning done this too.

I know I broke this down into steps but if you do it one or two times you'd realise it only takes a few seconds.

You click a picture, click a tab, find the word (which is already highlighted). Add s to it. Update and reload. Simple.

A plugin is to be used only when absolutely necessary.

Believe me you will have many opportunities to use them.

However if fixing the error seem too much of a bother for you go ahead and install a plugin.

This is only for those who prefer to fix the error than add a plugin.

Thank you for dropping by.

Good night.

Ok, so im learning external n internal importance, and it is suggested to clean every 2 weeks to at least monthly. How often does this process need to be maintained?

Thanks for bring this up, great timing with my lesson. Part of maintenance which I didn't realize so much

Each time you upload a blog you should check it. Just like you check your grammatical errors.

Do you visit your site when you upload your post? I know I do.

While you check to see if it looks right and such look for that padlock to see if there is HTTP errors as well.

This is when I fix it.

What a fantastic step by step guide on the difference between HTTP and HTTPS Candy, and what we can do about any errors we encounter.

Not being a tech savvy person at all, this makes a lot more sense to me now.

As others have suggested below, this would make an excellent training.

Thanks again my friend and have a fabulous day!

Jessie, you are quite welcome. I hope this takes the fear out of changing the codes this time.

Take care.

Candy Benn

It will certainly make things easier for me my friend!
