Disorganization - The Bane Of My Existence

In this life I have been one of the most disorganized people I know. Why? I have no idea. The more I have to do the scatter-brained I become.

Additionally if something is not part of my daily routine it is likely to be forgotten.

I seem to function better in business than in my personal life. Why? Business has structure, a well laid out plan.

Overcoming Disorganization.

I am no expert but here is what works for me.

Have a plan

Yes I am a planner. I write tasks down or better yet add them to alarms in my phone.

One of the first things I did when I started my online business is place a calendar in front of my desk where I wouldn't miss it.

On that I had my daily plan.

Here are some basic things that were on it:

      • Write post
      • Research
      • Train
      • Publish
      • Blog
      • Comment

On a notepad next to my computer I had a more detailed list. It contained things like my keywords and tips to remember when writing. Of course as I write more I need those tips less.

Next to that I had a list of things my boys needed to do when they got up. Why? Like I said the more I have to do the scatter brained I became. So my list ensure I miss nothing.

Next to that I have a list of bills that needs to be paid. Why? I don't wait for bills to arrive before they get paid and I try not to forget any since these have consequences. I pay all at the same time and forget them until the next month.

On the days when I used to leave for work and they would go to school I had several alarms. First one for me to wake up and start my day. Next one to wake them up. I had an alarm go off 20 minutes before we needed to leave the house so I knew if we needed to pick up the pace or not. Then of course one went off for us to leave.

This system kept me from being late for work.

If I have a new task I need a note with an alarm or I'll miss it. I am ashamed to admit it but I need a reminder for birthdays too because I may very well know but often don't think much about dates.

      Have a Place For Everything

I swear I am in trouble if I don't have a place for everything. Ever played hunt the keys.

My least favorite game but I overcome it by placing it in one easily accessible place each time. Of course when you are not the only person handling them there is still plenty of times you will be playing this game.

I place my keys on a hook by my door away from any windows.

If there is something that doesn't have a place inevitably we have to hunt for it.

So WAFamily do you ever struggle to stay organized? How do you manage. Believe me I plan to learn a few tricks from you guys today.

Hi Candy. Congratulations. You seem to be doing quite well to be organized.

I also have a place where I keep my keys and other stuff. Like you, I find that often I have to play the seeker’s game because someone in the house, has failed to place the keys where they belong.

I like the idea of paying bills before they arrive. I think it's worth trying.

Thokozile I wonder if we took a poll how what percentage of the population would admit to playing that game. I think it is universal.

Just recently my son who plays the game with his own keys was saying that they need to invent something to help you find the keys. I told him to go ahead. Lol.

I love doing that with the bills, believe me, it works well.

I guess coming from and accountant background it's natural for me to stay organized between spreadsheets and file folders. It just takes some time to get it going but worth the time that it saves in the long run.

        I can understand that Debbi.

I can see how that will have an influence on the rest of your life.

I guess for me the more interested I am in something, the more I am organized with things related.

Hmmmmm. Makes a lot of sense.

        Have a great day.
