Are you going to stay premium? Hope your schedule tones down. Maybe minus one class next semester? Wouldn't worry about Amazon, there are so many affiliate possibilities. Search for ones relevant to your niche when WA gets back into your schedule more.
Keep in touch. Will keep looking for you. ^_~

I am premium till November I think but because this course is a Diploma I think it used to be 2 years but this is 1 year and it's trimesters with shorter breaks inbetween. I am also going back to my homeland for a months vacation in July/August so catch up or reschedule/extension of course may be in order.

Using skills I have learned here on time management and prioritising has helped just need some further tuning and see if I can fit stuff in.

Gordi has explained it well. I got the same email warning me if I don't sell in 90 days that they are going to close my account. So to be safe, I applied to a few others and got immediate approval with better commissions and no time limit. Actually Amazon is a real pain to me and not worth fighting about or with.

Good luck with college and all the demands!

Lydia.

They've done it to me, or anyone else with no sales in 90 days. I guess they only want big-shot affiliates. Yes, you can re-apply, but wait until you are more established.
I signed up with Ebay, and was already with linkshare and clickbank. You don't want to tie yourself to just one affiliate program

Good info thanks for sharing

I just got a notice saying if I don't sell something soon they will close my account. You can join again later....

Hey David,

It's really going to depend on the reason for shutting you down. They change their policies all the time. You should check to see if there have been any changes in Australian law that affect affiliates because Amazon will cancel accounts due to these types of situations.

I would reach out to them, although they are not always very responsive to affiliates from what I have heard and read. They are not the most affiliate friendly company in the world.

When you do decide to come back into the foray of affiliate marketing and want to become an Amazon affiliate but they don't approve you, there still is an option. You could join VigLink.com (no affiliation) which is a third party Amazon middle man seller.

The funny part part about going that route is, because VigLink does huge volumes with Amazon, their commission structure is actually greater than Amazon's and they pass most of those commissions on to you. They take the spread as that is how they get paid.

Best Regards,
Jim

Added tutorial fix for the Internal Server Error here, please read before implementing so you can refine for your exact circumstances:

Thanks for adding this. Its good info for those that expeerince this problem of site going down. I have had it happen and used the ftp method before.

No problem Bo, I know that I panicked and there was a long wait for the support ticket that at that time only took me back to where wordpress was before the crash and when I tried to disable a plugin I was back at square one.

I like knowing how things work and the methods used to fix your site are relatively simple if followed methodically, knowing the cause of the problem helps eliminate and customise your fix too. Thats why I stressed read through the instructions first before commiting.

I just received the following message when I tried to log on to my site any ideas? I can't use wordpress at all panic stations please help I'm freaking out?!?!?!

Added tutorial fix here:

Hi David. Just wondering if your website issue has been resolved? I hope it has and that you're back online. Cheers!

Hey Phil thanks for checking up mate:-) yeah had a lengthy wait with the support guys and was sweating they said it was all go and that I had an htaccess error. I was using W3TC plugin and Cloudflare options at the time and site restored to that exact page but when I went to disable cloudflare the site crashed again!

Anyways I ended up going in myself via FTP and resolving the issues and will post a DIY fix for other users soon as it is relatively simple and saves you a lot of stress and worry.

Cheers Dave

Excellent. Glad it's resolved Dave. Cheers mate!

I know the feeling and it's horrible. I hope you enjoy the same fast response I received and I'm sure you will. WA is great like that. Good luck and I hope your site is back up and running real soon.

One thing though that I noticed... once I received the message the issue was resolved, my site was still slow to load for about 1-2 hours. Not saying this will happen to you, but my pain continued for a few hours after the fix which caused me even further frustration. Just keep in mind this is a possibility and don't become too disheartened.

Cheers, Phil.

Nothing yet Phil but will keep that in mind. Have just finished designing some posters to stick up around my unit block and surrounding areas to try and attract more traffic but better hold off until everything is running sweet again that would be a sure fire self destructive move, yikes.

The same thing happened to me 2 days ago - exactly the same message. Send a support ticket asap. They had my issue fixed within about an hour. Still don't know the cause though.

Thanks Phil, I'm freaking out here!

I was using WPTouch Pro and W3 Total Cache at the time ( approx 3pm AEDT ) and was following the instructions here:

I had troubles in the past connecting to WA servers to use Filezilla for FTP downloads but have since fixed that problem, details are on my user blog. My problem is now I want t

For what it's worth, trying out Dreamweaver myself (nebewb - both with dreamweaver & filezilla).

My issue was assaboutfront to yours David...Dreamweaver purred while filezilla couldn't hold a connection long enough (generally) to drill down a few folders. After a ridiculous amount of time outs, I thought this is totally unworkable!

~ 4 hrs later, had added 2 lines of code...yet to revisit. Though am interested in how you're.... Just read the comments below...stop typing now.

Give CoreFTP a try in place of Filezilla, http://coreftp.com :) Rich.

Legend.... Will let you know how I go Rich, like to think it'll get a run this week....

Don't know if your using a mac or not but I done a little piece of code and some tinkering with my modem and FileZilla worked a dream read this http://goo.gl/4yJqgt

Hey David (great tut),

Although I worked in It for what seemed a lifetime, I still came out the other end an art guy not a tech guy.

As much as I tried to avoid learning anything tech, I guess 12 hr shifts 365 days a year, for just shy of 13 yrs (forget xmas, bday plans....friends at all), had a kind of osmosis effect I suppose.

If I ever become rich again I'll be getting a mac mate ;)

Ps very strange...... Hmm..... Huge thanks in order Dave you just inadvertently laser guided me to a niche.... I was 1/2 way there, but fuzzy...."eureka"! 'scuse me, don't care if I just woke & have been on the wagon for 2 months..... As the American's say (I think) "it's MILLER TIME!!!!".

http://d.pr/i/hppq ;) R.

Perfect @Rich your level of geekness is astounding worked first time, great relief thank you.

You're most welcome! :) R.

Rich, thank you so much for the solution for connecting with Dreamweaver. I've done this hundreds of times on websites and never had to check the box IPv6 Transfer mode as a ftp setting before, but it worked. Thank You!

It took me many hours of hair tearing frustration to work that out for myself too, I'm glad I saved you from having to do the same. :)

This might help. It is not on WA, but it takes you through the process step by step.

Thanks Jude that's pretty much what I was doing although the options are slightly different on newer version so still no luck, but @rich solution was successful. Cheers.

I have recently changed all my amazon links with the pretty links plugin but testing on my partners iPad I noticed that my affiliate link didn't seem to be attached. I was under

I like amazon links. They are simple, and always work. No need to change them.

Hey Gordi. The use of Pretty Links is convenient though, you might have an affiliate link for product "x" throughout your site. If you decide to change that to product "y" instead, you only have to make a single change in Pretty Links rather than find every occurrence of it throughout your site and change all of them manually. The Amazon Link Localiser https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/using-the-amazon-link-localizer is used to transfer visitors between country specific Amazon stores. For example, if I land on a site that affiliates Amazon .com (USA) and click on the link, then I get transferred to Amazon .co.uk (UK) to make the purchase, but without the "localisation" plugin the website owner doesn't earn any commission on that sale. I think it's only Amazon and a few other affiliate programs that make you go through this nonsense! :) Rich.

Ok Rich. I am going to check that out. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks

You're most welcome! :) R. x

I always thought you had to copy AF link

No not unless you are just on one country's affiliate program but for multiple you are best providing a neutral link, say a search on product, so that no one particular country code is assigned to it.

You can't use Pretty Link in conjunction with Amazon Link Localizer as it has to provide the appropriate country link in "real time" which it can't do if it's hidden behind a Pretty Link. Sorry! Rich.

Thanks Rich, damn that's a good few hours wasted then now have I not only potentially missed sales but have to reset links on multiple pages hrumph
