What is your domain name? You can do a whois on your domain name to see if the DNS/Name servers are correct.

I don't know about go daddy but on namecheap I can go into my account and look it up. If it's still at namecheap, I am able to change the settings there.

Hi yeah I know, but the good thing about videos, is you can pause and rewind and watch exactly what Welshy does - and copy it click for click.

The best way I know is to download all the files to your computer. Then set up the new domain with the same template and upload the files using the ftp. process. You might need to do some minor things like resetting the menu.
Wish I had thought to do that when I transferred my site. All the content is such a mess. It was all in pages but now one long site. Trying to get it back into pages but it looks like I am going to have to delete each page and re-do it. That's not too bad since I was going to re-do it after Christmas any way. But, still frustrating.

As a relative beginner I'm not sure about how to choose a wordpess theme that would be right for my website or even blog, could somebody give me a clue?

As a beginner, try to pick one with a simple layout ie not too much going on. You don't want an over complicated design until you are a little more comfortable with Wordpress/building sites - if ever.
The only advice I would give is to make sure your theme is "responsive" so it functions properly on cell phones or tablets.
