Thoughts about Bootcamp: Is it about graphics or content?

MY WEBSITE LOOKS THE WORST

Just finished the training "How to create Socially engaging Content" which is 37% through stage three of the Boot camp training. I've been at this now for about 45 days and wanted to make a few observations, that might resonate with some of my fellow Boot campers. I did the assignment like I was asked and posted it on the thread as directed, I then visited some postings in the thread from my fellow boot campers, and boy what a shock.

TRYING TO POST GOOD CONTENT

They looked like professionally produced websites with beautiful graphics, embedded videos and click to join WA boxes everywhere, my website on the other hand had none of these things, just a 1000 word article following the template format. In looking at my content page it says that I've written more content than 93% of the other members ( writing a blog post every two days on average) really focusing on content. With each post I do the assignments, the last one being download the sociables plug in. Since, I didn't know until then how to do a sociables plug in I had been manually inserting the blog links into my social platforms.

GETTING INDEXED BY GOOGLE

A number of my posts have been indexed by Google, but after looking at some websites with all the beautiful graphics and video and sales funnels I wonder if I had missed something in the training. I know Google likes original content, with good keywords and hyperlinks to relevant earlier blogs, but does it affect your indexing if you aren't using a lot of fancy graphics and embedded video. I don't even know how to put a join WA funnel on my site and does that increase your indexing possibilities?

PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF THE CLASS

Now don't misunderstand me, I'm proud to be in this boot camp even if my Website is the worst looking, I just want to be sure that I'm not misplacing my efforts, is it about engaging content or making the website look Madison Avenue slick. I'm focusing on engaging content and doing the assignments, not making the website look professional, I know that will come with time. I only joined one picture site, Wikimedia.org. And half the pictures I select won't even download, have no idea how to embed video at this point. Have not seen a class about Banners or Sales portals unless I missed it. I'm not even sure I need to be focusing on those issues right now. What good is graphics and banners if your not even indexed? Who cares if nobody is reading your blogs?

SHOULD I FOLLOW EVERYBODY

As far as engaging with other members, I have been replying to a few posts and comments were I think it makes sense, even following some people ( think I'm following 10 members so far) imagine my surprise when I noticed that I had over a 100 followers, I feel bad and wonder if I should in turn follow everybody, but I don't have that kinda time, if I'm trying to put out a quality blog every two days, so I'm little confused on how aggressive I should be in following everybody.

WHAT ABOUT MY WA RANKING

As far as ranking goes, I've been watching my ranking fairly casually and have noticed that it fluctuates occasionally but over all the ranking seems to be going down when I started 45 days ago I think I was 95000 and something I'm currently at 35913 is this something I should be concerned about? I know it improves with your engagement with others I just don't know how much importance I should be giving it.

IT"S NOT A RACE

This is not a race for me, in one of my previous posts I talked about how one of my character defects has always been impatience, and I'm mindful of that, as I go through the Bootcamp training, ensuring I'm putting down a good foundation before going to the next step. Anyway I love what I've learned so far and it I'm excited about my progress, just wanted to express some thoughts.

As always, thanks for visiting. Dave

Just keep on keeping on, follow the training, go at your own pace and you will get there. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Hi Dave,

You first can't compare your 1 month site to others who's been doing it longer. That's obviously going to be disappointing but instead of viewing it that way, you can look at those as examples of where you want your site to be and learn from them.

You haven't finished the course yet so all those things you're asking is in the training. You will be shown how to build your own custom sign up box and how to place banners on your site.

This business is a long road and this is only the beginning. You're going to have plenty more frustrations.

The best thing you can do for yourself right now is continue the training as you were and build great content as per training using appropriate keywords which is key to getting traffic.

Your first 12 months is about building your website, laying down the foundation, making it SEO ready from all the things you learn, and know how to use keywords in your content.

Images and videos don't affect indexing, it affects ranking but many things affect ranking, not just having images and videos.

You are at the cuff of all the training and answers to the questions you're asking about.

So just keep going, there's much more for you to learn and don't worry about other sites looking great, yours will get there too.

If you want to see how much work it really takes to succeed in bootcamp, you can check out my training: It shows how I made it Vegas and the hard work it takes to get there.

It's definitely a marathon you're in, so take your time and learn the foundation in the training, then learn from my training.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Thank you Grace, I was a little concerned when I looked at some of those sights, didn't realize that they had completed some of the training. I have been focusing on content and practicing my writing skills. Not in putting pretty picture up. Dave

That's okay, all of that will come.. :)

Good post Dave.

I personally don't think you need to be concerned about anything. Just keep on doing what you currently are.
Once you have a lot of content then you can start tidying things up with images etc. which all go to making a better user experience in Google's eyes but content is king.

Spending time learning how to insert photos, videos etc could be spent writing content. The rest will come eventually and you will have the content to insert it into.

Keep going.
Lawrence

PS I'm probably not going to follow you because I too am busy but it will be nice to see your first "Sale" post one day.

PPS WA rankings are the last thing you should concern yourself with IMO. What is great about them is that there are at least 95000 other people who believe in WA! That's kinda comforting to know its not just you, me, Kyle and Carson

Thanks for sharing Dave!
I thought I was the only one who thought their website was ugly... I recently took a step back and tried to figure out what I want for my potiential customers and that seems to help.
As for indexing, Recently decided to add a bing tracking in my site and noticed Google indexes my posts a lot faster now.
I haven’t made a WA funnel either. Maybe I will this weekend.
Thank you for sharing. I have to remind myself being patient is key. I’m more a numbers and results now kinda guy.
I will keep up the good fight!
Thanks once again Dave.
