Hi, Everyone...

Just a quick post to let you know about a great article on SEO in 2018 you may want to have a look at. This is not just a 'what's predicted to be' piece, it is a complete laydown and has a lot of actionable advice...

The article itself is set up like a landing page, complete with images and links, etc. It definitely reflects the work that was put in to put it altogether. In fact, it is so extensive, it is more like a book!

Here is the link:

https://backlinko.com/seo-this...

I have not gone through it all, it is far too much to absorb in one sitting. Definitely worth your time, as a great deal of what we do here has SEO at it's core...There are some areas of SEO that I had never heard about, and I am only in the first portion of the article!

Here are the chapter subjects (yes there are 7 chapters and a bonus area too)

Ch 1 - RankBrain (huh?)

Ch 2 - CTR

Ch 3 - Content

Ch 4 - Mobile

Ch 5 - Video

Ch 7 - Links

Bonus: SEO Tips for 2018

UPDATE: As I mentioned to Craig in the comments below, I asked a question of Brian ref WP SEO plugins...Here is the question and the answer:

My Question:

"Very thorough and useful post, I have already passed on to my colleagues as well. Many good hints and ideas that we can get started now to improve our results immediately and over time…

A question for you…

What is your opinion of the two most commonly installed WordPress SEO plugins Yoast and All In One SEO? I have heard pros and con for each, and of course, many bloggers or store owners count on them to do the hard work of SEO…

If they are not updated to meet the new criteria that are in use or will be in use, they could very well be hurting many millions of websites and the rankings that come with good practice SEO…

I would be interested in your recommendation as to what to use and why, or perhaps a viable alternative. Definitely, we all need something that will be effective to keep up with these changes.

Thanks!
Dave"

Brian's Reply:

Brian Dean

"Thanks David. Good question.

Those tools really just help you change your title tags, description tags etc. They don’t do that much in the actual optimization department (in terms of writing content, optimizing for CTR etc.). So I’d continue to use whichever SEO plugin works for you."

Brian would make a good politician? : )

Anyway...

Have a great day everyone, and remember...

I believe in ALL of you!

Cheers!

Dave : )

WOW Dave, I'm back again.

I am definitely going to read the whole SEO tips.

Cheers and thank you once again.

Glad this will help...I know that in the little time I was reviewing the post (I am not done) I added a half page of notes in my running diary...Pretty sure I will be adding more notes...Cheers! Dave : )

Yes, it helps and makes sense.

With so much competition out there, we have to write good content to keep the viewer interested and on our website for as long as we can. And I can see the logic in this to rank.

With SEO I much prefer Yoast premium compared to All in One premium.

There has been some discussion that since Yoast 3.0 update, users have seen a drop in their rankings by Google. I am not sure which is better, so trying both cannot hurt...

Brian brings up the point that by taking care of the other portions of what helps you pull in traffic, i.e. the content, you can do well with either...

I agree that this needs to be the first focus over drilling down on trying to get that ranking by any other means. That also falls in line with what is taught here...

Grace (she has added a comment below) is living proof that what we learn here works, her website continues to get more traffic and higher rankings, and she follows closely what is taught...

Brian is adding to what we have here, I find it complements it very well, and having the additional insight from him can only help us all.

I actually tend to like Yoast more, but using both is also no issue...I will continue placing more emphasis on content...

Cheers!

That is interesting with Yoast in rank dropping. I will have to keep an eye on that when I get back to the Yoast website.

I am currently finishing off the All in One SEO website.

And big cheers for the weekend coming up!

Brad

Thanks...Beer is chilling! :)

I just followed littlemama, I am guessing that is the Grace you are referring to.

Hi, James, thanks for stopping by! No probs, M8! Dave : )

I went through the post, which is really more like a book as you rightly point out, and I have found it to be extremely informative. I'm making it a point to stick to these practices...and thanks again, Dave :)

Thanks Dave, I will check it out :-)

More than welcome, John! Dean always does a good job with his work, and generally, I can pick up many things from him! I think many here will...Cheers! Dave : )

Thanks Dave. Gonna spend a bunch of time reading, reading, reading....

That does help for sure...I spend a portion of my day learning new things...I have to limit it, or I would ONLY learn and never do hehe! Cheers! Dave : )

True, dat!

Hi Dave

Lots to absorb on this important subject.

Not a problem, M8! Cheers! Dave : )

That's awesome Dave, thanks for sharing. Phew....so much to learn!

Hi, Craig...No issue at all...

I did a quick run through now of the entire post, and phew is the right reaction!

As I finished the quick run-through, I asked a question in the comments that all of us here will want to hear about:

I asked for Brian's opinion on the two main SEO plugins Yoast and AIOSEO that most WP users have installed on their websites, in light of all the things that are coming in 2018...

I also asked for his recommendation for either or an alternative...

Of course, I "schmoozed" a bit too, letting him know how great I thought his latest work is, hehe... ; )

Cheers!
Dave : )

Ha ha nice one Dave!

I'll be sure to check out his answer. I haven't read the complete article but I do already follow some of the strategies so I'm pleased about that.

A lot of it is also covered in the training but they now reco a minimum of 2000 words so I will need to address that issue.

Cheers!!!

Thanks, Dave. This certainly is quite a bit of reading to get through.

Thanks for believing in me : )

All the best
Gary

No problem at all...I follow quite a few external blogs, and this is a good one...Definitely, a top-notch piece of work he's published this time! All the best to you as well! Cheers! Dave : )

Thanks for the info.

No probs at all...Cheers! Dave : )
