Dealing with "The Elephant In The Room."

Hi, Everyone...

Another short post, so no need for me to add details like word count or time to read...

This note involves a quite personal issue, but it can possibly touch every member on this site...

Of course, I would not wish that, but it is fact...

---

A Confession...

I have cancer, and it appears to be advancing, albeit it in a slow manner...

Skin cancer is the Doctor's prognosis...

For over one year I have dealt with this, and there have been ups and downs.

There have been bad days and good days...

I have been addressing it in a very confrontational manner. I refuse to accept that there is only the normal (and expensive and MAYBE helpful) means to address the issue.

---

Why Should YOU Care

Honestly, really there is no reason for you to care, I am but one of millions across the globe...Nothing special, nothing that makes me stand out from anyone. Sad (for me hehe) but true...

BUT, there are perhaps many ways that my own journey with cancer can help you. As this progresses, I will be sharing more about the ups and downs of it all, and perhaps I will be reporting on more too, like things that you can do to prevent or help with the malady.

Maybe this will help in some small manner, either for you, your family, or your someone you know...

---

Why Bring This Up NOW?

This is the season to enjoy the loved ones, get some profits from the many special sales events, and of course to get your ducks in order for the coming year.

But I would like to submit to you that the stakes are even higher than you think...Things change in a flash sometimes..."Ducks in order" may mean more than just getting organized for the business...

More than just words, the import of the words "Enjoy the moments" have been seared into my mind, and they should sear into your mind too. You really change your perspective on many things when you do this...

We do not know what tomorrow will bring...Let the people you love know that you love them...

---

Closing On A Positive Note...

As we move through another holiday season, with the holidays, the sales, our articles and sales pages, dealing with the relatives, and the change in weather, I would like to remind all of us that tomorrow is NOT a guaranteed thing, so wring the most of every moment.

That can be a difficult thing at times, as life seems so harsh but we all can do it. I meet (online) people that inspire me every day for their courage and they in turn give me courage..It reinforces my will to survive and thrive...

It can be the same for you...Again, tomorrow is NOT guaranteed...Treat life as such and I am sure that your thoughts and actions will change...I have been Blessed in so many ways, to include getting to know all of you here...

Let people know how much you appreciate them...It costs little, and it is perhaps the best gift you can give in this giving season...Ask of them the same...This is a viral thing that can have so much of a positive affect on all...I appreciate ALL of you!

Cheers, all!

Dave : )

Thanks for sharing your journey with us, Dave. I have lost friends and family members to the "Big C", and have a dear cousin who is battling breast cancer at this time. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Your positive attitude and courage will go a long way in your fight. Are you familiar with the studies about the healing effects of some foods? If not, you might want to research the use of asparagus in fighting cancer. I've read some very exciting things about this, but don't have the link. Please let us know how you're doing from time to time. Carol

Good Day, Carol...

It sounds like the "Big C" is no stranger to you and your family and I am sorry for that. I definitely appreciate the thoughts and prayers, they are helpful...

In my research and regimen that I have come up with foods are playing a central role, as do certain spices and even sleeping patterns, stress (good and bad), exercise, and habits...

Asparagus is one of the foods that is powerful and I do consume it a few times a week (the green not the white)...I like it too, fortunately (I also like Broccoli, spinach, collard greens, etc.)...

I will provide updates as things move along...It seems to me that we can all avoid much of this with a healthier lifestyle and actually putting the advice that makes sense into practice...

It is easier not too, but over time there is a price to pay for that...As a young lad, I and other friends would get sunburned badly at the first opportunity - There were not so many sunny hot days where I grew up...

As an adult, it was much the same...We would vacation in Italy, Spain, Croatia, etc. as a family and again, it was "burn baby burn"...Only later do you see the outcome(s)...

Too late for me and too many warnings out there to this day, but they are serious and should be treated as such...It is easy to laugh them off and think they apply to others, not you...But they do...

In my case, it is not just the skin...We did not wear hearing protection much during the early years of military service, and that too is cumulative...I retired with Tinnitus and have lived with that for over 25 years...

I guess I am not invincible, I guess I can only jump over a tall building in a single bound that is not so tall, and I think I may have misjudged what an acceptable risk is in my irrational exuberance...

Maybe youngsters can learn like I did not? I hope so hehe! Anyway...

Have a great day and enjoy the holidays! Thanks again for taking the time to add your thoughts here, all the best for you and your loved ones!

Cheers!

You're welcome, Dave. Have a safe and happy holiday season. Can't believe Christmas is next week. Gotta get busy baking! I like to take cookies to the neighbors. Hope I get it done in time!!

Dave, I'm so sorry to hear this news. And yet at the same time I'm so glad you shared it because we have someone here at Wealthy Affiliate who has a cancer cure site.

It's highly likely that Robert @boomergp08 has the answers you are seeking.

Thank You for your beautiful heartfelt, touching post. Wishing you everything of the best as you heal.

Hey There, Lauren!

Robert has been a go-to place where I have started a lot of my extensive research from over the past year. He is the original hope for me and I most definitely appreciate his work...

This is also why I am fairly confident that I will beat this thing...One battle is not the war, so I know that I have now gleaned enough from everything to be on the right path above and beyond the C thing...

Truly a change in lifestyle is what is required in my case, and I have gone down that path over the past year. I am fortunate in that there are SOME good things I was doing already, and with what I have learned I can upgrade other areas of my life while working on this one...

It is a never-ending battle, and in the end, time will wreak its toll on us all, but it is in the manner with which we fight and in how we refuse to walk away from challenges that make living such a wonderful thing...

Thanks for popping through and adding in your kind thoughts and advice, it is so much appreciated! I have been slowly working my way up through all you who have taken the time to add a comment, it has taken a while!

Enjoy your holidays and make some memories...Finger tapping on the head as I write this...It helps for sure too!

Cheers!

I am sorry to hear this Dave. As many have said there are many different types of treatments out there, medical, holistic, spiritual, dietary, etc., that have good results in tackling this condition. And you positive outlook on life will go a long way to helping improve your healing process!

It's true you should enjoy life to the fullest each and every moment you have as you never know when big changes may happen. While planning and "getting the ducks in a row" is important, sometimes we become too hyper-focused that we forget to enjoy people and life going on around us. Thank you for the reminder and not just when something big is happening!

Prayers for your situation. Remember, God made us ALL unique, just like snowflakes. There is no one exactly like you. What you bring to the world is the culmination of skills, talents, a lifetime of experience and gifts bestowed upon you by the creator.

Wishing you peace and healing on this new road of your journey, my friend!

HI, Frank...

You have been through so much in your life and have stood strong. You are an inspiration to all of us here and I know that you understand very well what I am trying to get across in this post...

I take in your wisdom with gratitude and hope that I can continue to deal with all things with dignity and humility at the same time. There are so many things to enjoy all around us no matter the circumstance...

There is no doubt my journey has been enriched by coming to know you and so many others within this community, from Kyle and Carson to the newest members. All are unique and have something to contribute...

I wish you all the best for the bit that is remaining this year, may you enjoy lots of good times with your loved ones, and for the next year may it be the best ever for you in all ways!

Cheers!

Dave, I'm so sorry to hear that you have to deal with this. You are a unique person. I'm convinced you will win the battle, there are so many means better than the traditional treatment (in my opinion).
Positive attitude always helps. I've heard of someone healing themselves of cancer watching comedies all days long. I don't know if it's true but it won't hurt for sure.
Keep being strong and positive!
All the best from the bottom of my heart.
Lenka

Hello Lenka...

Thanks for the concern and it is people like yourself who send me all the power I could possibly ask for - and it DOES make a big difference.

The real purpose of the post was to highlight the fact that we need to mend fences and enjoy moments today, as we do not know when our time is up, and we may not have any notice either...

However, what prompted it is the realization that as time courses on, the end is coming nearer, for all of us. Too many, I think, hold grudges, they delay gratification TOO long, and they do not realize what is important...

I wonder how many people will say "I wished I had worked more" or "If only I had kept more distance from my loved ones - it all would be better" on their deathbed? Not many I'd wager...

Having said all that...

I like the comedy prescription, laughter IS the best medicine, right up there with an apple a day keeps the doctor away (these are things my Grandma used to tell me hehe!)...

I thank YOU from the bottom of MY heart for your concern and for you taking the time to add your thoughts and advice here...It is SO appreciated!

Cheers!

Thank you, Dave, for this reminder.
Live everyday in Thanksgiving and appreciation.
With illness, I practice, "Everyday and everyway, I'm getting Better and Better."!
Focusing on the "next right thing", that has nothing to do with how I'm feeling. My mind then is off the negative, and begins to put out positive vibrtions, which come back to me.
Thankfully, there have been great strides made, in this area, and everyday new techniques for treatment.
Sending prayers for healing, and gratitude for the sharing of your experience, strength, and hope!
Keepthe Faith, Dave!
Best!
Barb

Hello, Barb...

Thanks so much for your powerful words and advice! I do believe that the mindset is key to so many things in life, not just for business success...

People that have learned to balance the things they can control against the things they cannot, and use tactics such as diet, exercise, sleep, etc. generally do better than those that do not learn and practice these things...

There is a study out on Blue Zones in the world (I think they are looking at 6 locations or so) where people live longer. I have not kept up on it all, but there is a common thread that runs through those areas...

It is the quality of the life we choose to live that determines that true wealth that we have over a figure in a bank account or the number of cars are in our driveway...

I appreciate the prayers, wishes, and thoughts! I send you all the same and hope you have a great holiday with tons of good memories that you will make!

Cheers!
