Hi, Everyone...

I know that many people have a bit of angst when it comes to spending money to get traffic...

The push here at Wealthy Affiliate is to build your organic traffic...That is free traffic, and indeed has numerous ancillary benefits...

So...

Why Consider PPC?

There is a point with your business when you may want to start dabbling in paid ads for a number of reasons...

(1) It can quickly increase leads and conversions...

(2) It can build your brand, credibility, authority, and trust with niche members...

(3) You can get bursts of traffic for something that you are promoting...

etc.

Our Experiences With PPC...

This is why we (my business partner and I) are experimenting with different kinds of ads using FaceBook...

I like the way you can research and develop highly targeted audiences like I have not seen with any other medium...

To show you what I mean, here is a screenshot of a video ad campaign that we just started this morning, not 8 hours ago...

(1) Genders looking at the ad...

Then...

(2) Views by age group..

and finally...

(3) Reach versus views...

Summation:

As you can see, we have spent LESS than $3.00 as of this point, our cost per view is 0.02 cents, and just how many orders we will get I will report on later (I have to see which came from this ad versus other means)...

Digging a bit on these very preliminary results, I can surmise the following:

(1) Audience. Women are watching the ad slightly more than men (not by a large margin, but enough that it is statistically meaningful)...Even though the number of people reacting was split down the middle almost between men and women 10 more women watched 3 seconds than the men...

(2) Length Of Views. Overall, about 1/3 of the reach results in people watching the video for at least 3 seconds...This is OK because we add in the CTA (website link) right from the start almost so they will see it...

(3) Our Approach Is Working. The video itself is a lighthearted animation with some very catchy music that almost forces you to watch longer - it also is what the Germans would call an 'ohrworm' (music that will have you humming and dancing even as the animated figure does for no apparent reason)...

(4) Sales Results. Now we will compare the orders that we get today and even over the next few days and because we have a targeted audience that WANTS the items they will find in the store, I expect that our orders will approach 30 % of the CTR (I am hoping hehe)...

(5) Our Cost. The 'investment' as you can see was minimal - I have earmarked $5 for this trial ad...If I get very favorable results, I will scale up the ad and go after a bigger targeted audience...

(6) Split Testing. I also will run 2 versions of this ad - one that is 1:18 in length, and a shorter :50 second version...See which is better, then use that for the scaling...

Lots of lessons for us here, and I fully intend to add to our PPC marketing efforts, as we continue to add in more content to the website and flesh that side of the traffic conundrum in...

UPDATE as of 25 April 2017:

The final 24 hour ad spend totaled $5 USD and we reached 790 people via paid traffic, and an additional 125 people organically (I also posted the video on several group and social sites)...

So for 915 total views the cost per view is 0.018 cents...Not bad and this is just the first day...

We now have almost 1000 new leads for targeting our offers and regarding sales we have had 8 sales in the last 24 hours and I will wait an additional day to see how many more come in and where they come from (i.e. returning customers or new from the ad or elsewhere)...

This stuff can work!

Next trial will be a shorter version and I will edit the target audience based on the demographics from this one...

(1) The age groups I will change to start at 25, and this makes sense, I am looking for people that have been assigned to Germany while in the military...

(2) I will add in an intro and outro to the video that focuses a bit more on women because there was statistically a better viewing follow through (the stat percentages remained the same as what you see above)...

(3) I will expand the locations of target military bases, sticking with the ten biggest located in Germany and the USA...

(4) We will try a shorter version (under 1 minute) and the longer version (1:18) to see which works better...

(5) I will do $5 for each version of the video...

(6) For retargeting, I have another animated version of a promo video, also quite catchy and cute. This will be used to show the same people that viewed this video, and start with a $5 budget...

To get an added boost, I also have posted a link to this post on the online marketing tools Facebook page I have, and I can get a 'twofer' - Of course I also am pushing WA and e-Commerce, so I show what I am doing...

That's about it for now, this stuff really can work for you and at a relatively low cost...Think about how you might incorporate it into your online marketing business!

D...

Bottom Line...

There is some excellent training you will find here to get you started with PPC...It is a marketing tool that can be effective, but you really need to understand how to deliver an effective and compelling ad to an audience that is looking for what you are offering...

This ad targeted military veterans, spouses, and active duty members located in Germany and the USA. We also targeted military bases and forts by location, as these people likely are interested in what we are selling (products from our e-store)...

How did I determine that these were the people to target? I did it based on my own experiences...This demographic or set of people I selected are likely to have been stationed in Germany at one point in their career...

They will have memories of those times, and what we have may trigger the need to buy what we sell! That is the whole point - attract interested people to your offer...As opposed to counting on the search engines to point people to us, I am going directly to them via the ad...

You can do the same as you grow your business...Get the basics in place first, build on them as you are taught, and at some point when ready give PPC a go...Use your experience and instinct as you go through this process, it can help...

I do believe PPC is an excellent way to build fast sales...

What do you think? Is this something that could help your online marketing business?

Cheers!

I have dabbled in the world of PPC and I got a couple of sales from it (though the products I was promoting did not get high commission returns) as well as some signups for my newsletter so it does work.

Yes, PPC is one of those trial and error things, as you are never quite sure 100% if what you present will work...By following some guidelines it can increase the chances a lot - that is why getting some training is a good idea, or you can burn through a lot of money quickly with no results...Cheers! Dave : )

I agree with you, I certainly need more training with it and want to spend what you have recently on PPC versus what I did when I tried it for the first time a few months ago. I spent way too much on my first go round!

Yes. I have been starting slow and only scaling when I see it is working...You can boost a post for like $5 too and see what is working that way...I am a cautious dude I guess...Cheers! Dave : )

Good morning Dave,

Oh dear me, I am not on this level yet. Sounds all very interesting but I am only busy with writing content for my 2 websites.
I might be doing all this but then in the future. Did you see my second post on the Spanish priest and the world library? you might find it interesting.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Hi, Taetske...Yes, this is something that can come later when things slow down for you...Getting two sites populated with content is a big job on its own for sure...The PPC training and tools are there when you are ready to move in that direction, that is the good thing! I will check out that post for sure! Cheers! Dave : )

Still got to learn PPC but I am very interested in it. Thanks for sharing this info, much appreciated. I will look forward to your results.

Carl

Thanks, Carl...

Working on this as I write, the demo version and will transfer into the domain soon, lots of work, but it is coming together...As of next week, things will get ramped up even more! Cheers! Dave : )

Great information Dave, thanks

Looks like something worth checking out. Looking forward to hearing about your final results.

Thanks, Debby...I will add these within a few days...Cheers! Dave : )

Great post Dave, I am realizing more that Facebook ads are the most effective and inexpensive way to drive traffic sales. For as little as $5 you can get a ad that has immediate effectiveness.

I'm beginning to realize I need paid ads, because my niche is proving to be too competitive for organic.alone. Stay tuned for my post on this.

Hi, Kaju...

Thanks, M8! As an update...

The engagement level keeps on increasing - we are close to 40 % of the reach that is viewing the video now, and the cost is staying right at 2 cents...

Up to over 500 views and engagement right at 200...Still, I have plenty of my $5 left too hehe (about 1/3 left)...

If we go on an average of 2% that take action immediately, I would expect a couple of sales, and I will have the contact for all those that viewed (using retargeting ads)...

This means that they have shown an interest, and are more likely to follow through with an order when we follow up with another video ad...

Doing some math and looking at the figures...

If I get 2 orders and 400 contacts from this $5 - it is a pretty good deal...

(1) The average order is hovering around $30 USD, and at 30% profit margin it means I will have made $18 in profit (over the COGS)...Add in the ad cost, and still is plenty left...

(2) Likely I will realize more sales down the line from this group
as I retarget them with ads...

(3) If the same math holds true for the retargeting as with the first go-round, I will get at least a couple more sales...

(4) I can continue to target these people and add them to the others that are gathered from other traffic streams, at no additional acquisition costs...

I can see how people are able to get a large tribe of customers quickly using the social platforms...I haven't even touched Instagram yet, but I will...

Once I get the formula that is producing (and I am quite close to a working formula with the 0.02 cents per view, that is not much!) I scale it up...The $5 spend becomes $20, and then $40 per day...

You see where this can lead?

Bottom Line (again hehe)...

That was $5 that was well spent, my friend!

Cheers!

Very interesting. I look forward to seeing your results.
Xin

Yes Xin, me too...Our traffic is growing exponentially from all the different activities we are involved in, many being the various social media platforms...I will post results! Chers! Dave : )

Can produce income!

Indeed! A good thing! Cheers! Dave : )
