A Pretty Darn Good Video Script Blueprint

Hi, Everyone...

This is yet another quick guide for you. Video is a powerful complement to your posts and you can publish them on a YouTube channel and embed them to go with your content that touches on the same subject.

You can also publish them on other social channels too for more free traffic (try uploading to each channel versus using a YouTube link, you will get more exposure...i.e. Facebook likes to keep people on their platform so uploading the video there will get you a different set of viewers)...

Here is a very basic script template that I use for all my videos. There may be times when I vary from the steps included or times when I add to them, but most of the time these are the minimum elements that I try to include.

Using this template, you can quickly create a pretty good script and practice running through it a couple of times, and voila, you have something that people want to watch and take action on...Especially during the holiday season, try using more videos and see how it helps your sales...

So let's lay it out for you...

---

MY TYPICAL SCRIPT...

    1. Grab Their Attention.

Within the first few seconds you have to get the attention of the viewer or they will leave (just as with written content). Rather than the written word it’s about the visual aspects here.

Start with something that they would not expect to see either on your website, on YouTube, or on Facebook and elsewhere. You have to get them to stop and take the commitment to not scroll on or clicking away.

This is where a good thumbnail can help. Make it stand out much like a comic book illustration, using colors, bold text, and lots of action (maybe you making a pose)...I won't add a full thumbnail here, but have a look through YouTube and see what you think attracts and stops people...

One thing that I see used often is an image of the author of the video in a pose...

Here are a couple of shots that I use with other graphics to make my thumbnails (there are several good graphics software tools that you can use to create free thumbnails, no need to pay for someone to make these for you):

Note the emphasis on communicating an emotion in the shot. This is a WTF (what the feck) or are you crazy look... : )

Here is another one..."Look at the GREAT OFFER..."

One last one..."You are not going to let this get by you are you? Well ARE you?" : )

Ok, I think you have the idea. That same principle holds once they click on your video and start watching. You need to dazzle them and get their interest piqued so they stick around. These days people's attention span is short, they are always looking for that next big thing, so you have to hold them.

Let's move on to the next step...

2.
Your Introduction.

Okay you drew them in with your thumbnail and with the start of your video, now you have to introduce yourself. Your tone of voice, your posture, your gestures, and other communication skills come into play here.

For these type videos you're building authority so they understand why should they listen to you. Use powerful language such as "I used to be like you..." so they understand you are going back to the place where the viewing audience is at. They will relate to this and listen more closely.

Of course, use your own words here and be genuine. Do not sound like a robot or telegraph that you are nervous or scared. This will come across. If you practice your open a few times, you should be able to knock it out of the park and sound natural.

3. What Is The Problem.

Take the viewers briefly back to explain through a quick story about a problem you had in the past that is the same as the one addressed in the video. This problem should be the exact same problem your audience is currently facing too. They will be able to relate and you are building yet more trust and authority.

4. Give Them Your Solution.

Once they understand that you have been where they are, and have had the problem they face, you can move into the solution phase..."It all changed when I did this…". You are sharing with them what you did to solve that problem. They will be all ears...

5. The Best Solution.

Once you start drilling down you can expand on the possible solutions to the problem and them move to the one that you are recommending. Tell them why your suggested solution is the best one...Share with the audience how you came up with that.

6. Show Proof It Is The Best Solution.

You are always going to have viewers that are going to be skeptical about your suggested solution. You answer their concerns by showing some proof. Explain and show results you have obtained. Demonstrate these results, maybe show some screenshots, and you can add in other images that back up your solution too.

7. Show Some Social Proof or Testimonials.

These days people have come to expect to see social proof. People who have tried the solution and gotten results. People that have worked with you and trust what you say and offer. Proof from these third parties is likely the most influential part of your video you can add.

Start this section off with something like "But, please, don’t just take my word for it…". Show any case studies, customer reviews, and any other positive feedback you may have received from previous customers.

8. Add Your Call-To-Action.

Right after the proof you showed, you want to add in a call to action. They have been through to this far, so that means you have someone watching that has made a micro-commitment. They are ready to make the next one, which you will provide.

It might be subscribing to your channel or website, it might be registering for your upcoming training or webinar. or subscribing to get a download or a lead magnet, it can be anything. They are ready and you have to grab them before they move on.

There will be those that are interested but do not want to take that step. No problem, you are not done yet and they are still there, so there is still plenty of time to get them to take action...You can keep on rolliing with the camera and the script/mission...

9. Remove The Risk For The Viewer.

One thing that holds people back from taking action is risk. They have to feel comfortable to make that move. This is where you can make your offer just a little bit better. This extra bit of persuasion on top of everything else might just get the fence-sitters to move.

Use something like: "On top of everything else, There’s more! Wait and see what else I have for you…" This is where you can add in bonuses for those people who take action. Remember whatever you select has to be valuable to the target audience.

It might be a checklist, an ebook, a white paper, a software or a WordPress Plugin, etc. They can only get this if they take the action that you are asking them to take. This will capture a large chunk of those still on the fence if the bonus is a good one.

10. Add In Limitations or/and Scarcity.

Human beings are very predictable in some ways. Adding in the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) factor to your offer will help push the last few who have not taken the plunge to take action get moving often.

It really does work and has worked for ages. Limited-time offer, limited quantities, additional bonuses for the first x number of action takers are all tactics that work. Kind of like pop ups on pages, people hate them but they work.

So you are going to explain to everyone just what the limitations are. It might be a time limitation i.e. "We’ll close down the registration page at 0900 EST..." or it might be through quantities "Once the 25 spots are filled for the trial VA program, we will close this special offer - we want to have only the best people that are ready to take action..."

11. Give Them A Summary and Recap.

Time to tell them what you told them in a few sentences. Summarize again the problem you have the best solution for, mention all the benefits they’ll be getting (but only if they take action now).

Depending on the focus of your video, you might want to show them what it is - i.e. if it is a software, fade to showing it in action. Perhaps it’s a physical product, so you can show it to the viewers.

If it is a digital product such as a training course, a set of worksheets, or perhaps some other type of tool, use a presentation slide showing everything they’ll get if they take action now. This is a great way also to make sure you cover everything in the summary.

12. Close Things Out With One Final Call-to-Action and a Thank You.

Once you have summarized everything invite them to take action one more time. You have just been tapping into their emotions, addressed the logic concerns, and added the fear of missing out, and chances are you will convince quite a few people to take the action you want them to.

That is it. The end. It is pretty simple, right?

The very thing that I am about to add is video content. My 14 year old son has proven, via his own Instagram posts, that video is less time consuming than composing fine literature, I mean writing for the web. The kid has more followers than me! He doesn't have a dedicated script (yet). I certainly WILL incorporate a script.

He shows dangerous and exciting trampoline flip videos of his crashes as well as when he completes a trick! I write words...
Which do you prefer?

Excellent info, Dave. Thank you!
