The Stinky Fruit
I’ve seen a few posts recently with folks worrying about whether their niche is the right one, if they should change their niche, who will read my blogs, is my subject too specialist.
Well, I don’t care what your niche is, if you are passionate about your niche , then there will be lots of other people around the world who will also think that your niche is fantastic. People who will share the same passion and want to read about it.
Let me tell you a little story.
There is a tropical fruit called a Durian Fruit and it is a popular foodstuff in many Asian and Indonesian countries. In Singapore we would see them on display at the markets.
They are a spiky fruit, quite heavy and the spines can cut into the skin if handled carelessly.
It also has the name of STINKY FRUIT.
The smell was described one time as a mixture of pig ****, paraffin, used gym socks and old onions having the consistency of six month old rotten cheese. It is banned on many forms of public transport, even unopened, and taxi drivers will not carry it.
Yet it is considered a super food, it is packed with healthy nutrients and is believed to have many medicinal properties. People that eat Durian fruits will swear by its health benefits.
What I want to know is, whatever was it that persuaded someone to try a Durian fruit in the first place. Who decided it was edible, surely not from the smell. And why do so many millions of people across Asia eat it regularly – how can they. Me, I just don’t understand.
And so ends the story, which brings me back to your niche.
However much you have convinced yourself that your niche will not be liked, will never be accepted, you really couldn’t be more wrong. If you like the subject, if that is what your passion is about, there will be many, many others out there for whom your niche lights their fire.
Get on with it. Write about your niche, blog about it, flood the internet with information and stories about your niche. Someone wants to read about it and that is how you will build your business.
Start today, write today and start achieving your dreams of a successful business. Stinky fruit or not, someone wants to read your blog.

No niche is ever a bad niche if one knows what they are talking about my friend..
As for the stinky fruit.. 'jaca' I believe is the Portuguese name for it (spelling could be wrong of course) !!
But in my infancy of arriving in Brazil in the first month or two we visited a friend of a friend's family home in the countryside.. where fruit trees were abundant.. and I was offered the best and ripest to eat fruit they had to offer...
They had never met an Englishman before.. so for them offering me the prime Jack Fruit was a privilege.. I obviously had no choice but to eat what I could, but I tell you what my friend.. the flavours far outway the smell!!
If you can get passed the original unpleasantness to the nose buds, it is not a bad snack!!
Not even going to attempt that one Nick. The old market had stalls selling them, we gave them a wide berth.
But I do have another story about the indoor market there and a watch. maybe a blog - yes, a blog to follow.

If you don't start today, when will you start? Be bold and don't listen to those who would dissuade you from even trying. This is your moment, they had theirs and did not have the courage to try and fail or try and succeed. Without effort you will never be able to be more than your environment. I like your comparison of our niche to stinky fruit.
If stinky fruit had a mind, it might have wondered, "Who will ever eat me? I don't look appetizing and I definitely don't smell very good." But, as you said, lots of people eat it in spite of its spikes and smell. The fruit would have worried for nothing.
And just like that, lots of people will find value in any and every niche out there because they are interested in the subject.
