So good I bought it twice

I make a mean curry but that is no excuse to sit back and keep cooking the same recipe all the time. I’ve had a recipe in my head for weeks now, a sort of melange of other recipes. And then, as part of my spring clean on Tuesday I found a tin of coconut milk that was just over the edge of out of date. That was nudge enough to use it up and try “ma nouvelle recette”.

So, Wednesday afternoon, just as I had got over the mid-week hump I decided to experiment, and am I glad I did. This was five star stuff. I'm sure that if Michelin food critics were to visit chez Bux they would award me a Michelin star. Bloody good stuff as my grandfather would say.

Anyway, the point of all this is that we should never stand still. This was made incredibly clear to me many years ago when I read the book shown – Who Moved My Cheese. If you haven’t read it then you need to. It talks about always looking for that new opportunity, that next source of cheese (income to us) and how we should never be complacent about what we already have and the things that we think will never change, that we will be ok.

This Covid problem was a good example, one of my income sources dried up in a matter of 3 or 4 weeks and if I hadn’t had several other income streams then I would have been up the creek without a paddle as they say.

Covid was a quick impact event but many other downturns in business happen slowly, almost imperceptible changes. You go from being ok last year to just about managing this year and flat on your face next year. The challenge for all of us is to realise that there may be a downward drift happening long before it starts to show itself and to do something about it today.

Look out for those extra opportunities before you desperately need them. Go and find that cheese before you are hungry. Read the book and enjoy, it’s an eye opener.

So good I bought it twice – but don’t ask me why.

I absolutely loved that book!

I can't remember all of the examples from it, but I still always identify people whose cheese has moved and they are just sitting there, waiting for it to move back, which of course it never does! For them, for all of us, it remains - adapt or die! (Figuratively speaking of course!)

Adapt or die .........
I like that. Just writing it in my diary.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Bux glad you enjoyed your curry!! Who moved my Cheese is a great book - I read it many years ago when I could read print but I have just found the audio book so will give it a listen over the weekend - Thanks for the reminder :)
Have a great day
Tracy

Brilliant Tracy. If I listen to audio books I fall asleep.
Good luck
Bux

I've given up on listening to them in an evening for that very reason... :)

Sounds like a great book my friend, one I'm not familiar with at the moment! I'll do my best to pick up a copy or two!

There are a few curry lovers here, so if you would like to share your Michelin star, award winning nouvelle recette, that would be much appreciated!

Holiday here today, so taking things easy, but I am sure you are being productive as usual Bux!

Take care mate!

Trying my best

That's all you can do Bux!

Sounds Interesting! - Off i go to eBay for a cheap copy! Mike

You will enjoy it.

I have read the book a few years back. This is a must-read.

Thank you D. Yes, a must read for everyone I believe.
