Multi-tasking - truth or lies

Multi-tasking

A quick question from me.

On the telephone to a good friend today I was typing up a few notes at the same time as I was talking, or at least trying to. Jingo became aware that I was not concentrating fully on his predicament, which involved a large sum of money for a very expensive supercar.

I’m just multiplexing I said. Don’t you mean multi-tasking. Or is it multi-functioning.

So the conversation spun around to examples of doing two things at once. The outcome was that neither of knew what we were talking about at the end of it.

So, if I am typing and talking about something else at the same time – what is that.

If I have some baked potatoes in the oven and go back to my typing, what is it now, is it multi-function or multi-tasking or just typing while the potatoes bake.

Not that it makes much difference to my life, it’s one of those little conundrums that is really bugging me now – what is the correct terminology.

I’d love to read your answers and if anyone can give some examples I will be eternally grateful.

And the new car. If he had already decided to buy it, he wouldn’t have asked me would he. It was the wrong colour anyway, it was silver and he likes red.

I think I’ve talked him out of it. I suggested he discuss it with his wife first, before he pays the deposit.

The one who does one thing well at a time is more efficient than the one who does multitasking.
Some things go well together: you run and recite a poem for example, but only like that.
Old and experienced doctors are shocked by what young people do, they talk on the phone when they operate on their heart, it's shocking.
Respectfully
Vasile,

I believe you are correct Vasile. My work was full of mistakes, perhaps it’s good that I’m not a heart surgeon.

Good morning, Bux,

Thank you for your interesting blog post, I believe many people think they can multitask, but for most, I would say that it is a lie! Definitely for men, anyway!

According to the boffins, if we are interrupted it takes us around 20 minutes to get back to where we were. I actually believe that multiple distractions can lead me to lose the drive that I woke up with!

For me, I need to do one task at a time, I know that if I try and do more tasks I will actually become unproductive.

I have the habit of having lots of tabs open, not deliberately, but it's amazing how quickly they mount up. A couple of years ago I started using session buddy which is a Google Chrome extension. It enables me to sort out various tab categories, so for example, I have a saved tab for my offline business, various websites, social media etc.

In this way, I have minimal tabs and pages open which can lead to distractions!

Regarding the car, it's good to ask the wife, first!!

Have a great day.

I agree Roy and the general message here is not to try it. I made so many mistakes. I do find, as you say, it takes me 20 minutes plus to recover from an interruption.
The Porsche, his wife will probably ask for a nice present before agreeing to the car. Money to burn.
Enjoy your week my friend

I think multitasking can sometimes make people feel like they have achieved a lot of work when actually they haven't! Maybe it's a bit like growing an online business, but actually, we're on Facebook or replying to Wealthy Affiliate comments!!!😂😂😂

I think the Porsche will come at a price, there is normally a catch on this sort of thing!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy
