49 Seconds
I don’t believe it, and neither will you. How can 49 seconds turn into half a day.
There I was, late last night , putting the last few parts of a video together when I realised that in one clip I had used the words zero point five instead of zero point three. Did it matter. Heck, yes it did. My viewing audience might love me to pieces but they would never let me get away with that.
I calculated that I could get away with chopping out a 49 second segment, re-record it and slip it in. This was going to be an absolute doddle. Wrong. Could I record the words perfectly to 49 seconds again, that was all of a gap that I had.
I remember, many years ago, telling my cat that I was taking him to the vets for his annual injections, thermometer up the bum and a nasty tablet down his throat. Could I get him in his cat basket, no chance. There was more blood on the kitchen floor than in the local blood bank. Crikey, could that cat fight back.
Anyway, back to 49 seconds. I re-recorded the words, 54 seconds, another re-recording of 53 seconds, 55, 51 and eventually 50 seconds, which I could just make fit. I had to make it the same pace and the same tone, not as easy as it sounds.
But at last it was done - 4 hours after I started on it, and it sounds good. If only I’d paid more attention to those blooming numbers before I put everything together. And perhaps there is a moral to this. I always say check twice, record once. Maybe I should change this to “check three times”.
Which reminds me of a song by Tony Orlando and Dawn – Knock Three Times.
I can remember my dad playing it in the 70’s when I was a nipper (you’ll believe anything).
Has anyone else had self-inflicted mishaps like this. However can a handful of seconds become several hours.
What’s your best tale.

Wow, Bux. Editing is certainly not easy. Even watching cheap budget movies you can see where they cut and insert throughout the film.
In your case, without expensive editing equipment, it may have taken less time to just re-record the entire video.
It was a learning experience for you, though. You found out it is better to proof read the script several times and edit it. Much less time than editing the video.
I have learned so much over the years through trial and error. I love WA because I learn so much from the posts of others.
Thank you for yours.
Archie
Thanks Archie.
I always read everything through at least twice but somehow the Typo Fairy sneaks back in every now and then. It's just like the Spell Checker Fairy. When you least expect it - BANG, she's got you.
Life's a laugh at times.

So right you are, Bux.
I find it helpful to read through the script at least once out loud, even after proofing it.
Archie
Maybe that's the way Archie. Voice it as I read it.
I'll give it a go.
I don't slip up often but that is too much.

That certainly sounds like it was a long 49 seconds for you there Bux..
But as long as it turned out as you wished it to in the end, time well spent my friend!
We all have the occasional mishap from time to time after all, life would be very boring if we didn't!!
Tell me about it Nick, I could write a book.
Speaking of which I still owe you guys the tale of the Singapore watch and the crisis at toll booths in Normandy.
Will be done.

I am still waiting with eager anticipation for those blogs Bux!
C'mon now. I've just posted one two hours ago.
Genuine fakes.
To much wine Nick, that's your trouble. You need to share it out.
Hope you are well.
Bux
Too little wine more likely my friend!!
I have just read and commented on that post though!
I have a system in place to clear the back log of emails I receive daily first.. maybe it doesn't work so well Bux!!
I know the feeling.
Whatever system I use I always think the other one was better, until I go back to using the old one again.
You get the idea.
If I could only think as quick as a computer it wouldn't matter which system was in use - would it.
Bux
I totally understand you here Bux, I have yet to find a foolproof system and most likely never will!
