Traffic is the life blood of any online business and for you to succeed with your business you need to master the skills of driving traffic to your website.

The easiest way to get traffic is to pay for it - in the form of advertising. This creates a predictable stream of (hopefully) targeted visitors to your site that you can then build relationships with and market to. The obvious downside is that you need a hefty budget for this.

The alternative way is to master the skills of free traffic. As WA members you will of course learn how to create SEO focused content which over time gets you rankings in Google and brings free traffic from Search Results.

This can take time - in many cases, a long time!

There are other free traffic methods so I thought I would share a few with you to see if you can incorporate any of them into your own business.

Free Traffic Sources

1. Your email list. This is by far the best source of free traffic. Everyone should create an email list for your business. Once you have email subscribers you can send them regular emails to tell them about new content and new offers.

2. Your Facebook Profile. This is a "marmite option". Some people love to talk about their business on their Facebook profile and others don't want it to be known that they have a digital business.

3. Facebook Fan Page. It's free to create a Facebook page and it can be completely separate from your usual Facebook profile

4. Facebook Groups. Again you can create a Facebook Group for your site completely for free and share information there.

5. Twitter. Twitter is one of the easiest social media accounts to set up for your business and get traffic with. Follow others in your niche, share your content and interact with others.

6. YouTube. Creating videos on YouTube is a great way to build credibility and show your expertise. YouTube videos often rank high in organic search too.

7. Other Facebook groups. Participate in other Facebook groups in your niche and show that you are an expert too, People will check your bio and look to discover more about what you do. Some groups also allow you to share links - but don't get a reputation as a spammer!

8. Pinterest. I'm not a big user of Pinterest but I known many WA members love it and get great traffic from it.

9. Other social media sites. There are so many social media sites you can use now. If you have time, create many accounts and participate anywhere that people in your niche hang out online.

10. Forums. There are hundreds of forums online in just about every niche imaginable. Get involved in discussions in relevant forums and set up your bio with links back to your site. Some forums also allow a "signature" on posts which allows users to click directly to your site.

11. Guest posting. Find other websites in your niche that are more established and have regular traffic. Contact the owner and ask if they would be interested in having you write a post for their site. This allows you to place an "about the author" link back to your own site.

12. Blog comments. Find other blogs in your niche and write valuable comments on posts on that blog. Sharing your knowledge and help will get people checking out your own site.

13. Article directories. This used to be a great source of traffic and while it is nothing like as good as it used to be you can still get traffic by submitting articles to directories.

14. Slideshare. Create a PowerPoint presentation for your articles and upload them to Slideshare.

15. Press Releases. You don't need to be a journalist to publish a press release - but just make sure that you are publishing something newsworthy!

So there you go - 15 ways you could try to get free traffic to your website. Please feel free to add any other ideas in the comments below and let me know how you get on with any of these.

All the best!

Dave

Thanks for this helpful information. I have been using some of these and can see my traffic improve. Since I have only 85 posts on my website I have a long way to go before Google considers my site an authority site. Most of my posts these days rank on page 1 of the search engines. However, I am working on getting better in promoting my posts and this is where your advice comes in handy.

After I succeed in building up traffic to my website where I am earning a decent income, I will then look at creating my own digital product. I do not want to loose focus on what I am currently doing. The first product I will be creating is a freebie to us for building my Email list. As that is on my agenda next.

Congrats on completing your training program. I wish you much success in your online ventures.

Cheers.

Edwin

Hi Edwin

It sounds like you are definitely on the right track with your business. It's never too soon to start building an email list and once set up it can work on almost autopilot for you in building your list.

Thanks
Dave

I'm getting all the goodies today. I have bookmarked this Dave, thank you. In the next couple of weeks I shall be starting a fresh website and need to get off the ground running. This will serve as a checklist that I can work my way through. We love free.
