The Laptop Lifestyle

Yesterday I wrote a blog post on my phone while I was stuck in the airport and had a bit of a rant about the rip-off prices and poor customer experience in an airport terminal.

Today I am writing on my laptop while sitting on the balcony of the villa we are staying at in Spain. The picture above is my actual view from my balcony with the Mediterranean Sea in the distance 😀

This is me writing this post 😎

It’s so much more relaxing to be able to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet and allow your creative juices to flow. I have already had several ideas for my own blog which I’ll try to write over the coming days.

It also made me think about people who are able to do this on a regular basis without having to go back home after the week and get back into the old 9-5 routine of a day job and then try to build their business in their spare time.

Running a “laptop lifestyle” business is probably the ultimate goal for many of us. The problem we all have to solve is how are we going to turn this dream into a reality?

I’ve hinted at the first step in the process in the previous paragraph. The first thing we all need to do is decide what our goals are. I spent some time doing this earlier in the year and it’s amazing how powerful it is to see your goals actually written down in front of you.

I have some short term goals which I am already achieving and also some longer term ones which I am working towards. One of the main ones is to be able to walk away from my job and finally be my own boss. To live the laptop lifestyle.

I have messed around with online business for far too long. I think my job has been a major hindrance for me. Not in the way you think although I definitely come home tired regularly and the thought of working on my business is not very appealing.

You see, as a pharmacist I make a decent income which allows me to live relatively comfortably and so I don’t feel any pressure to make it work. Taking a long hard look at myself makes me realize I have been lazy and unfocused about my business and given up far too easily in the past when problems have occurred.

Not that I haven’t had some success online. I have written a kindle book which sells regularly and created a couple of low priced products which I sell on my sites. But it’s small stuff so far.

I wrote a post here recently about Parkinson’s law which states that “a task will swell in importance the longer you give yourself to complete it”.

This is why you need to apply deadlines to your goals to apply a sense of urgency.

I've set my goals and now I am applying a deadline to them. I’ve been working on a new product for my business which involves me learning new skills and using software I’m not familiar with and so I have been procrastinating.

I’m hereby giving myself a deadline of 30th September 2019 to get this product created and launched. I’m writing this here so I can be accountable for it.

This is going to be a big step towards me achieving the laptop lifestyle.

If you want to achieve it too then set yourself some goals and apply a deadline to them.

Good luck with achieving it.

But for now, it’s time to open a beer and chill by the pool 😎

Catch you later friends 😀

You have written an article which gets the business juices flowing. I spent far too many years messing about on the internet, but I did learn some bits and pieces that help me today.

Derek

Yes that’s a good point Derek. I also have spent too much time on internet projects but I’ve also picked up lots of stuff along the way. Time now to make it pay off

A very thought provoked article, and very interesting and encouraging I need to pull my socks up to and start doing what I should be doing. Thanks, Veronica.
