The Birthday Boy
OK, I admit it, there's going to be a bit of soppiness in this post but if you have read any of my posts before you will know that I always try to include some advice and actionable tips too.
Let's get straight to the soppy stuff!
My big golden son is 3 today! Yes this is Finlay - our golden Labrador and today is his 3rd birthday. People often laugh at me when I refer to him as my big golden son but as anyone who has had a beloved pet knows, they are as much a part of your family as anyone else.
My human son and daughter are both grown up now so It's nice to have him with us. You always get a fabulous greeting every time you come home and he makes sure I am active every day!
As entrepreneurs, we often face daily challenges with trying to build a business and having a supportive family is a great help when things get tough.
Finlay seems to have a knack of knowing when I am struggling with something. I can be sitting at my computer trying to figure something out and getting frustrated with it to the point of giving up, when suddenly there will be a soft golden head resting on my knee.
It's like magic. My feelings of frustration melt away, we have a bit of a play, and when I go back to the computer I figure out a solution to the problem.
Help, Advice and Support
This is one of the great aspects of the Wealthy Affiliate platform. It's like a family of like-minded entrepreneurs who face the same challenges we face and often have great answers to the problems we are up against.
In recent weeks I have personally learned a lot from a number of WA members which have helped me make some important decisions about the way I plan to grow my business in the coming weeks and months.
A number of you have talked about getting traffic from social media. It's something I have worked on for a while using primarily Facebook and Twitter. I even paid a lot of money for a training course on using these two platforms and spent hours putting it into practice building Facebook pages and twitter accounts with thousands of followers. Despite this my traffic never amounted to more than a minuscule trickle.
While some of my WA friends seem to be getting results from Facebook it seems like most of the success stories are using Pinterest and YouTube so this is where I will be concentrating my social media efforts in the future. Without reading about these successes here at WA I would probably have continued banging my head against a brick wall on FaceAche and Twatter.
I have also learned that creating training here at WA is a bit of a dead loss. Obviously there are the great weekly training webinars from Jay and I have also got some great tips from these. Training from other members however doesn't seem to be what members want.
The WA platform doesn't really support training either. If you go to your dashboard then training from members is usually waaaaay down the page below recent blog posts and hot blog posts.
This is in no way a criticism of either WA or fellow members - simply a realization of the principle of giving people what they want. My blog posts get much more interaction than training videos - QED.
Nevertheless I have received some very kind comments on some of my training videos which really just serves to support my thinking that YouTube could be the thing for me to focus on. Again something I might not have decided on without interaction from WA friends.
As a slight aside I just want to give a shout out to one particular WA member - AJTrimble1 . If you want to really learn about building your business then his WA blog is a must-read. Some of his recent blogs are so packed full of quality, actionable tips that he could easily sell them. Instead, they are here for us all to read and learn from.
The Birthday Boy
However today is my big golden son's big day and it's time for the 2 of us to head to the beach for our afternoon walk and swim in the sea (him - not me).
Whatever you are doing today - have a great day - and take action!
Cheers for now
Dave (and Finlay)
Yes we even got him a doggy birthday pupcake!

You raise an really interesting point in regards to Finlay picking up on your 'vibe'. My sister is into pain management and has been exploring the benefits of animals when it comes to humans, as in how they can effect the healing process. Bit above my pay grade but it's definitely a thing.
Unconditional love really, from their end.
A smile for your Golden Boy ... my Golden/Lab cross (Goldador) turned one yesterday! What an amazing young dog she is ... the most gentle, affectionate and considerate friend you could ever ask for! A ray of sunshine everyday!
Allan
Hi Allan. Yes she sounds like a great dog too. You always get unquestioned love from a dog. Fantastic animals!
Happy birthday to Finlay. Thanks Dave for a great blog. Very observant. Yes, we are due for a revamping of our training. I am not a techie, so that is not a good role for me to try to play, but we do have some great people as you have mentioned.
Thanks
Joe
We got a retired golden who was a service dog for my in-laws, and she was awesome! Great dogs, very devoted and smart. Happy birthday to Finlay!
I understand your points about social media and traffic. I myself never really got into twitter, but facebook some and now learning about Pinterest. Best success Dave. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi Bill. I'm sure a retired service dog would be an awesome dog!
I've had a look at Pinterest but YouTube appeals to me most at the minute so I'm going to focus on that for now.
Thanks
Dave
We all need a Finlay in our lives. He is a big golden nose it looks like.
You should see the looks I get in elevators when I talk about going home to my little black kids. My black Maine Coon cat and black Pomeranian. Uptight white people. lol
Thanks for sharing.
*** hi Finlay -- you're so-o preciously handsome!

Happy Birthday Finlay.
They do sense your feelings and are very good at reducing stress, as does play.
Hope you have both had a fun day.
Thanks Linda. We had a great day together. Dogs are wonderful animals! 😍
