My first exerience of online fraud!

I use a separate bank account and card for all my transactions involving my online business which helps me keep track of my spending on my business as well as seeing what I have earned from any sales I make.

Yesterday I had that gut-renching moment when I realised there was considerably less in the account than I had expected!

I logged in to the account and immediately spotted 3 transactions for £200+ that I definitely hadnt made. I actually felt sick when I saw them!

I have reported them to the bank which has started an investigation, cancelled the card and frozen the account for now - which is a pain, but obviously necessary.

I noticed that the transactions took place shortly after I purchased a course on traffic methods from a seller I wasn't previously familiar with so I'll be having a chat with him about security of his payment process.

It's a reminder to me to check my accounts regularly for suspicious activity. Luckily for me, with my business still very small, I was able to spot the fraudulent transactions easily. A bigger business might not have spotted them.

Be careful with your online security folks!

Hi Dave, I'm running behind, so sorry but thank you for this information. I have the life lock for just that reason, you may consider that as an option for your time and trouble.
Peace💗

Sorry to hear that happened to you Dave, but I'm glad you caught it right away. Best to check often.

Sad that something like that happens but glad you caught it. Hope it all gets worked out quickly.

Thanks for the warning, Dave. We check our accounts every single day. Fortunately, we haven't had an issue for several years now but you really cannot be too careful. We hope it all gets sorted out with your bank soon.

Hi Dave, Thanks for sharing your experience.
This is a warning signal for everyone doing stuff on the internet. Unfortunately this is the world we live in now.
But as they say "a stitch in time, saves nine". Better check regularly than not checking and be sorry afterwards.
Hope you recoup your hard earned money soon.
