Legit Spit!

OK, I know it's a slightly odd title for a blog post so let me explain that first before getting to the point of the post a little later.

Like many of us I have been doing not very much on my business over the festive period and using the time to wind down a bit and recharge the batteries, so to speak, ready to go again hard for the new year.

I have enjoyed the break very much and now I feel ready and focused on achieving goals.

However during the break I also enjoyed getting to know a few people better and had some great conversations about various things - both face to face and digitally (via messenger, whatsapp etc)

I have had a few digital conversations with one friend in particular and had a lot of fun. It's great to find a friend who makes you laugh every time you talk and we had a lot of laughs over the last week or so.

With it being a digital conversation we often use emojis and GIFs to convey things and one of the gifs my friend often uses is of a lady spitting out her drink in laughter after being told something funny. You may well have seen it.

The other day I sent her a funny meme via messenger (one I created myself actually - and no I won't be sharing it!) and she replied with the lady spitting GIF. She then added - "That was a legit spit! - I read that message just as I was having a drink and spat it out all over myself!

Keep Your Business "Legit"

The reason I mention this is because I have seen the word "legit" appear in several places recently - particularly in site comments.

Because I have been creating a lot of content for my sites recently, I have used up most of my WA credits getting site comments. I therefore started doing some site comments myself just to earn some more.

I noticed that a lot of the articles I have been asked to comment on recently have headlines such as: "Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam?" or "Is Blahdey Blah System actually legit?"

OK, I get that some people get traffic from these types of scam / legit reviews and maybe you get some buyers that way too.

But ask yourself - what sort of people are searching for a term like "Is wealthy affiliate a scam?". Perhaps you think you are targeting people who are looking to subscribe to WA or buy whatever product or system you are reviewing. And maybe you're right!

However I think people who search for "is it a scam / is it legit" are actually people who are looking for a reason NOT to buy or NOT to subscribe. Yes they might read your review and maybe they'll buy to have a look - but these are the sort of people who refund or return, or cancel a subscription immediately. Often they are just looking for an excuse - something to blame for their failure to make something work for them.

Looking at some of the sites I have commented on recently - most of the articles are of this scam/legit review nature.

Hey - if that's what floats your boat, makes you happy, makes you sales - Go for it!

I prefer to keep my reviews focused on the positive things in a product or service. A few weeks ago, Heidi and I wrote a review of Wealthy Affiliate for our site and it focused on the great web hosting we get as well as the business training. It's already the most popular post on our site and gets more organic traffic and clicks than any other post.

My advice: Keep your business legit and focused on positives by avoiding using phrases like "ls it legit" and "Is it a scam"

Just my first 2 cents worth for 2020!

Happy new year everyone

Cheers

Dave

I don't agree. I read the is-it-a-scam reviews first because those are faster to decipher as "legit" or not. That's how I found WA, because I fell for another one and then, five minutes after I signed up for the scam one I googled and found Kyle's (the other Kyle) review, which was refreshingly different. And now I am here;)

Like I said Petra - if it works for you, then knock yourself out!

I think that the "ls it legit" and "Is it a scam" appear in many keywords for certain niches with relatively low competition. This is probably why we see so many.

I agree that we may be overusing them. And it becomes a little annoying to see so many of them.

Hi Jose
I see the logic but I just think that targeting those keywords brings the wrong type of customer into your business.

Thems that are of the younger variety use 'legit' alot, not as good a as 'chavtastic', which is a personal favourite.
'WA is Lit' for real.

Love it Twack. Young at heart.
WA is Lit - lol

That is a unique kind of way spending your precious time. we people have our own uniqueness. I am questioning the photo is that genuine spit?

Haha - no it's a stock photo. I missed the actual event but I would have loved to have seen it.
Time spent recharging the batteries ready to work hard again is time well spent.
I needed the break and now I feel refreshed!
Good luck for 2020

Sure you are. What a way to refreshed my friend. I remember doing that back in grade school! Have a great day!
