How I Became A Digital Marketing Entrepreneur

After my somewhat grumpy post a few days ago I thought I would just try to lighten the mood a bit with a quick history of how I became a digital marketing entrepreneur (well sort of...)

As a child I decided that I wasn't going to take careers advice from either of my grandfathers.

My first grandfather always used to tell me that in the good old days people could leave their back doors open. That's probably why his submarine sank.

My other grandfather was the man who invented the cold-air balloon, but it never really took off.

After that he started a kebab business which did OK so after he died he was buried with all his equipment. He's probably turning in his grave now.

My very first job was as a delivery boy for a stationery shop and one of my jobs was delivering diaries to the mafia, until I realized I was involved in organized crime.

After that I got a job as a forensic investigator with our local police force. Once I thought I had discovered the mass grave of over 1000 snowmen, but it turned out to be just a field of carrots.

My next job was as a tailor but I decided I wasn't suited for it. As a job it was just so-so

I thought my next job in the curry factory would add a little bit of spice to my life but then I realized I just didn't have the thyme for it.

I fancied a change of scenery so I decided to apply for a job in Australia. Unfortunately I didn't have the right koalifications.

So I finally decided the world of work wasn't for me and...

I became a digital marketing entrepreneur!

Like most of you here I dreamed of becoming my own boss and saying goodbye to the world of work. I haven't quite achieved that dream yet but I am definitely on the path to achieving it. When you consider the advantages of being an entrepreneur rather than an employee then it's really a no-brainer:

  • Create your dreams and design a plan to make it happen
  • Be your own boss - dance to your own tune rather than someone else's
  • Master your own time - work at a time that suits you and allows you to live your life too
  • Personal independence - you are in charge of your destiny and whatever decisions you make are the ones that are best for you
  • Unlimited earnings - you no longer have to exchange your time for money - your earnings are directly related to the hard work you put into your business
  • Do work that you love - how many of us work in a job we love? I bet it's not too many. The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that you do a job you love, in a niche that excites you.
  • Making a difference to others. The key to running a successful business is finding ways to help others solve their problems or achieve their goals. Do that and you'll never struggle to make your business a success

If I could give you one tip which has helped me more than any other with building a successful business then I would say "Find a partner". Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely business and when problems occur it can be hard to keep battling to find the solutions.

Having a partner gives you someone to share problems with and celebrate success with too. Someone to bounce ideas off and brainstorm new plans and strategies with.

It's certainly the best thing I ever did!

In fact, I can now tell you that we have a book coming out soon (well I suppose we shouldn't have eaten it)

Whatever you are doing - have a great day!

Dave

Love it, made me laugh Dave. I will take the long hours working for myself than less hours in paid employment.

I like my boss, she gives me time off when I need it, though she does make me work until midnight, sometimes later to make up the time. I still think my boss is amazing though, lol.

Glad to hear it made you laugh!
If you have a good boss then treasure it - there arent many like that

When you work for yourself there are, lol.

Thatโ€™s lots of โ€œDad jokesโ€ right there ๐Ÿ˜‚

Having that partner that supports is also a great way to break out of the mental loneliness that can infiltrate the mind.

Cheers Dave

Having a partner is the best thing i ever did.
Glad you enjoyed the jokes ๐Ÿ™‚

Dave are you sure you haven't missed your vocation ? ๐Ÿ˜‰
Great advice, a problem shared is a problem halved and all that. Having someone to bounce ideas off and brainstorm with is a major plus.

I considered a career as a comic but The Beano and The Dandy beat me to it.
Yes there's nothing quite like it for making progress - having a working partner!

Thanks for the laughs and the great encouragement.
Ray

Cheers Dave

This makes me happy.....I can't help laughing ๐Ÿ˜‚ I know the idea of a partner is great. It's good to have someone who can motivate you, you can both fish ideas, keep each other on track etc.

Have a great day!

Claudia

Thanks Claudia. A partner is such a great help when you are trying to make things work.

I know I know! The squirrel is doing tricks with her nuts :)
Dave, this post is great. It is fun reading and you have unbelievable work experience! Sometimes I was asking myself though if it's true or just fun. Good job you didn't have koalifications :) :)
Wish you a lovely day, dear friend!
Lenka
