How Can You Make A Difference?
When are you too old to make a difference?
In the midst of all the bad news at present, there has been a heartwarming story here in the UK of a 99-year-old man - a former soldier called Captain Tom Moore - who decided that he wanted to do something to make a difference.
He set himself a challenge to walk 100 laps of his garden before he reached his 100th birthday. His initial target was to raise Ā£1000 for the UK National Health Service.
However his story caught the attention of the media and it just went into overdrive! As he completed his 100th lap on Friday morning live on UK national TV, the total passed Ā£17 million.
At the time of writing, here's the latest total:
To add the icing to this particular cake, the singer Michael Ball has recorded a version of the song "You'll never Walk Alone" which includes a section with Captain Tom singing along.
It has been announced today that it has sold enough copies to enter the music charts at No 1
This means that next week when Captain Tom turns 100, he will not only have raised an incredible amount of money for the Health Service to help fight Coronavirus, but he will also have a Number 1 single in the charts.
How amazing is that?!?!
How inspirational is that?!?!!
If you ever think that you don't have it in you to make a difference for others, just think of the amazing example of Captain Tom.
Best wishes
Dave

Heartfelt my friend, I am on the veterans support team here in NZ for commonwealth veterans in the RSA the NZ equivalent of the RBL. Its a subject close to my heart I did read this story on LinkedIn last week but thanks for giving it wider oxygen.š§
Thatās fantastic Hamish. I admire the work you do to support veterans. It was very moving to watch Captain Tom walk his 100th lap to a guard of honour from soldiers of his old regiment from WW2.

Iāve been following Captain Tomās story too and obviously donated. Heās incredible. Thereās a petition going around to give him a Knighthood because heās a war veteran and now heās done this. What a truly amazing man and how amazing are the UK public supporting him and giving to the NHS. Incredible story.
Yes I completely agree Alex - a truly amazing man!
I donated too and its been amazing to watch the donations flood in. I think a knighthood would be very appropriate.
All the best
