Don't Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth!

Hi All

Ok, stick your hand up if you love receiving email newsletters and mass mailings!

No?

Personally I love it - but it's only good if you carefully manage it. Allow me to explain.

About 3-4 weeks ago I registered for a webinar on YouTube marketing with a well-known UK based internet marketer. The webinar itself was really good and I picked up lots of great tips. As with all these webinars, you get maybe an hour of stories of success and some juicy tips and ideas thrown at you, but you never get the full blueprint of how to put the tips into action.

To get that you need to reach for your credit card and sign up for the training course, workshop, mentoring package etc.

This webinar was no different and at the end there was the big sales pitch for the training course with this guy and all for "JUST £997"

I have to admit that I was sorely tempted - it was a great webinar, and I am really keen to develop YouTube as part of my marketing strategy. But I avoided the temptation and continued to work on my videos while applying a few of the tips I had learned.

Last week I got an email from the company that was promoting the webinar offering me a "14 day free pass" access to all their courses. Needless to say I grasped the opportunity with both hands and signed up!

I have worked my way through the course I was almost gonna buy and learned an absolute stack of great strategy for YouTube! Obviously I didn't get the personal coaching or bonuses advertised at the time - but I got access to the full recordings of an all day workshop where the marketer in question taught his system to the people who attended. FOR FREE!!

My 14 day membership is almost up and I am busily working my way through other course and making as many notes as possible. I might well pay for another month of access because there is just so much good stuff in this package. It's mostly recordings of workshops that the people who attended probably paid between £1k and £5k to attend in person.

Why Am I Telling You This?

The point is, I would never have gotten this free pass and access to all this training if I hadn't subscribed to the email lists of all the big name marketers in my niche.

I get dozens of emails every day - and to be perfectly honest I don't read most of them.

Important point: They don't come into my main personal email inbox. I have a couple of separate email accounts that I use specifically for collecting email newsletters.

At the minute during the current pandemic situation, I have noticed lots of big name marketers offering free trials of their products, free trial memberships of their sites or coaching programs and free downloads of some of their products.

Today I received an email from a well known Australian marketer who is offering a free 30-day access to her training on how to create an online course. Since this is something I plan to do in the near future - you can be sure I will be taking advantage of this offer too!

My Advice?

Sign up for the email newsletters of as many big names in your niche as possible. Remember don't use your main email address or you will get swamped in junk mail. Create a few Gmail or outlook addresses and subscribe using those.

From time to time scan your newsletter inboxes and look out for any juicy freebies they give away. If you sign up for a free trial remember that you will probably be asked to input some payment details to pay for your ongoing subscription at the end of the free trial so be sure to leave yourself a reminder to cancel in time if you decide not to continue.

The other big advantage of this is that you get to see firsthand how the big names in your niche go about their marketing strategy. See what products they promote and what the hot topics are in your niche.

It's a free education in your chosen area of business!

Get signed up my friends and don't look a gift horse in the mouth!!

Yeehaah!

Great post Dave,
There are some excellent opportunites for learning out there at the moment.
I've also created extra mail folders for those 'mini series' that we sometimes get if we sign up for a newlsetter or to be on the mailing list.
Just need to get round to taking advantage of it all.
Have a good one.

Hi Twack
Yes having those folders is one of the great advantages of Gmail. It's nice that it filters and moves messages for you!
Definitely lots of opportunities for those prepared to take them!

Thanks
Dave

Hello Bond,

I have to admit, I also partake of some of these webinars, I have also signed up with one or two who send you tube weekly vids and some are brilliant, with lots of great ideas. I also like to look at their selling technique and see how they pitch their sales.

But good advice, take the freebies, glean all you can from these heavyweights and if you gain just one or two tips a day it will have been a good investment...

Hope all is well in Ireland, we have now moved into “staying Alert”
...k knows what that means,
Don’t feel so scared as I did 6 weeks ago, and the “Prison Estate” has been and still is Covid feee, so fingers crossed 🤞 cos that would have similar mortality rates be as as a Care home.

Hope all is well with yours and Heidi’s website, 👍

Hi Cordelia

Always good to hear from you.

Yes I watched Boris's announcement the other night - hopefully it means we are on the long road back to something nearing normality. Over here we are still being told to stay at home - unless you are in the health industry like me, in which case we still have to go and work hard every day!

Glad your working environment has escaped the worst of the infections. I'm sure it would spread quickly there.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes there are lots of juicy freebies available if you make sure to remember to cancel any subscriptions in time!

Thanks
Dave

Great advice, Dave. Clever you, how you made use of the free course offering!
There is so much information, so many courses and all the marketers are trying to make you believe their course/mentoring is the best. Hard to choose what's best for us sometimes.
Have a nice evening and stay safe, my friend!
Lenka

Hi Lenka
Yes with lots of people at home at the minute I think many of them are pitching their courses to lots of people and offering free trials in the hope that people forget to cancel, or just love it so much that they stay on!

Thanks
Dave

That is what I do. I just got to be careful not to fall into the hype. If you don't have the money, it isn't worth it. But if you see value in those trainings then perhaps its a gem. I've been on many webinars that mostly promotes digital courses. Of course, the price is always at $997, $597, $497, and $297, $3k to $8k US dollars for private mentoring or $12k for Mastermind Workshops. All that is a big hype.

I've taken advantage of those free trials and make sure that I cancel before the time is up. Otherwise I get stuck with footing the bill, plus they always have OTO1, 2, and 3. Other upgrades for more features and services for the courses. This is an advice that I would not encourage newbies to do unless they have some extra earnings from their affiliate programs.

Those with no money need to find other free resources and build up their start up business. This place at WA is to do it.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Hi Brenda
Yes Its important to not fall for the hype and also important to cancel in good time before any payments become due.
Get it right - and you can get some excellent training though!

Dave

Yep, I have a special gmail account for the newsletters and then I create filters that put each email into a different folder. This is great because it helps keep my email account clutter free, and also it helps me locate the emails and see the whole sequence that they are using. If you start noticing similarities in the copywriting or emails show up more than once. That means those emails are working! Great to keep in mind for your own sequences...

Hi John
Yes there is so much that you can learn from the email marketing strategies of the established marketers in your niche.
Having those folders in Gmail is definitely a great help too.
