Small New Year's Celebration

I'm not much of an adherent to the yearly dropping of the ball on Times Square, nor pay much attention to the banging and popping of the fireworks going off outside everywhere, but one of the neighbours from the rear came out in front of my apartment with their two lads, his wife and their two-month old baby in her stroller.

I didn't want to go out and mess with their privacy being with their family, but half way through it, I decided to go for a short walk and say Hello to them en passing. I've been trying to catch up with stuff I'm behind on before the end of the year. Doesn't look like that's going to happen! Going by, the two lads instantly included me in on the excitement. They're about six years old and think I'm awesome.

The Dad told me I missed out on the best pyro attraction they had, which put out a lot of colours and reached the height of the palms nearby. Instead of the walk, I joined in with them. The Dad wanted me to make like the Statue of Liberty and hold up a Roman candle until the eight rounds shot off, so I did.

He tried to get Mom to do one but she was content just watching the fun and not touching any of the fireworks, and keeping Baby away from the smoke.

With the little kids, there were just small fire crackers, smoke bombs and Roman candles. The two boys had fun with sparklers. I tried the built-in video camera on my mobile device for the first time, getting one of the strobing fireworks they had.

We had great conversations talking about past experiences with fireworks, throwing a powerful M-80 into a pond and watching fish momentarily float to the surface years ago, amongst other things we used to do in the 1970s.

Later the Dad said he wished he could have done more, but I told him his boys would remember this experience and that was what is important. It cheered him.

It was an hour well-spent. Sometimes the smallest things in life are the most cherished and memorial. Being included in their little exhibit means the world to me. They will be leaving this apartment complex in February.

Well, sounds like a war zone out there right now - Well, good reason - it's 12:01 am right now and the rolling and whistling is everybody shooting off the best of their arsenals!

Hope ye all have a wonderful and prosperous 2016, from Daniel

That was nice that you had a conversation with those folks Daniel.I stayed up last night but not watching television,I hate all that celebration, for a whole lot of folk it,s just another opportunity to spend loads of money and especially get drunk,no,I went down the room and coloured for a little while. As for fireworks you can take my pick off those as I hate them, they just do nothing for me.

I don't even have a television receiver in my home, or at least one that works as a television (I very occasionally use it for NES and to play DVDs that I have.) I've gotten most of my joy from the activity last night watching the two lads playing and using the video recorder for the first time in my mobile device.

Happy New Year Daniel!

Hope your New Year brings prosperity and much improvement over the last.

Hi Daniel

Happy new year.

Happy New Year to you also :)

All the best for 2016 and beyond :)

I believe it will be a better year. The same for you Jude :)

Hello Daniel,
Wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2016

Same for you Kumar :) Keep at it here at WA and you will find the success you've been looking for.

Great to read and makes us rennet the small things Thanks and happy new year to you and your family

I live 2,000 miles away from my earthly family but my church family is right close by. Seeing my brothers and sisters once or twice a year is extremely special to me.

Hope prosperity and happiness are yours and your family's through 2016!

Daniel

Hi Daniel, the small things in this life are the best, thanks for sharing. Happy new year to you and may you have a very productive year in 2016. I am sure you will.

Above and beyond gifts, just being with friends and family mean the most to me. Hope you and everybody else on WA find themselves in much better positions over the New Year!

Happy new year!

May yours be delightful and prosperous :)

Be happy in 2016!

I'm still trying to get rid of a ton of stuff that is holding me back, and have been for some time, in being consistent and efficient with my campaigns, online work. I have gone a long way though in 2015 to achieve this. Still a ways to go, but much, much less than it was last year at this time!

It was lovely for the family to include you in their celebrations. Happy 2016.

It sure was! I live alone and it does get lonely. It makes me happy watching what the young 'uns do at events like this. The father had spent $40 on a bunch of small fire works and the two lads had light sticks (those toys that stay lit for about a day and "run out." It was just a little outdoors thing they did with their kids.
