Progress Is Slow but Sure

I had a great start to my Saturday morning, up early and rearing to go on my content, all systems go - until I poured a 20 oz glass of orange soda and proceeded to turn my chair around to tend to a radio broadcast recording that finished, bumped and dumped the soda into my expensive mechanical Corsair 170 keyboard, into the modem, into my phone and onto all of the paperwork on the desk. The soda went down the wall and into the brand new wall-to-wall carpet! Not a nice start to the day! The Internet went down and I shut down the computer immediately. Instead of working on articles, I spent the day trying to clean up after the spill. I tried to clean the keyboard out to no avail. It is destroyed with several of the keys gummed up and stuck down.

Yesterday was also busy with things that needed to be done and church and all.

Today I began to take the keyboard back apart but stopped short of doing that. Instead I went into the closet and dug out my old keyboard, hooked it up and got busy on my articles. I have written several of them today, actually these are a series of lessons on pages, not posts, that teach about how to spot online scams. They are targeted towards opportunity-seekers.

I have not yet received word about Month 2 tasks yet. As of this writing I have not received the new list and assume nobody else did either. I may just get all the tasks done in Month 1 after all! Not far from completing it at this point.

One thing is for sure - NO MORE FOOD OR SUGARY DRINKS, OR DRINKS OF ANY KIND ON OR AROUND MY WORKSTATION EVER AGAIN!

When it rains it pours! Sorry to hear about the sticky situation. But good to hear it didn't keep you from getting your tasks done.

Nope the damage is going to have to wait. For now, the keyboard is unusable. I miss it already without the lighting in it. It was far more necessary in my old apartment because it was so dark in there. The one I'm in now is much brighter and the lighting in the room is much better as well.

Ahh...Fanta orange soda...that's definitely my guilty pleasure. I actually just had that yesterday; hopefully, your sticky mess cleans up, Daniel.

It will. For now it's get the content out and other remaining tasks for this month.

Hi Daniel! What a nightmare for you! I'm always so careful myself with drinks around my laptop because my laptop is not yet a year old! I'd be devastated if I spilled anything on it. Luckily, you had a spare keyboard handy so you could get back to work. I have not received the March SWAG challenge yet so it probably hasn't been released yet. Alanna

It's a Dell keyboard, so it's fine. It works like a new one but needed the lighted one I had on here. It is repairable but my WA work is far more important now and just replacing it was the thing to do.

No food and drink in the lab! Detention for you! ;)

Hey, I hope the cleanup is not too arduous. It seems like you got a lot of work done despite the soda bombing.

Yes, yesterday was a good day for writing. I'm on it again today. I have a number of near completed articles, and some published. I have a few more to do after this.

The soda drinking will be done over a vinyl floor from now on. That's kitchen-only. I have a dining area but no dining room furniture yet, so it's an empty space as yet.

Yep, permanent detention for me :) I never know so much damage could get done from a single glass of orange soda! It hit five things in one spill! If bowling pins were five instead of ten, that would be a strike!

Oh my! [fake surprise] So you are telling us that keyboards don't appreciate a drink once in a while? Ungrateful keyboard! :-) LOL! Glad you had a spare and that you could keep going! Any progress is better than no progress!
Onwards and Upwards!

It's going to get more than a drink - it's getting a bath when I get my work caught up here. The spare is my old Dell keyboard which works perfectly but I want my gaming keyboard back :)

Vanilla and strawberry.

Got Keyboard, Will Type.
Wow, at least it did not spill into your pc.

Good Luck with everything.

Nope, the PC is on the other side of my workstation, upwind from the sugary deluge. Wow, it must have been awful when Boston had the great molasses spill when that tank ruptured and the sticky stuff went through the city streets in 1919, killing 11 people, however many horses and injuring a slew of others! It wrecked buildings and even buckled elevated train tracks. People and horses got entombed in the stuff like the tar pits. I heard it took years for the sweet smell to dissipate. We think we have it rough sometimes!

I don't think people in this part of Boston got back to writing their articles any time soon!

Wow, never heard of that.

When you have time...

According to this, there were 21 deaths.

Oops. Been there done that with a drink or two. :)

Glad you had a backup keyboard.

Good luck with the challenge.

Yep, my old one. It's okay but as for the other one, it's a gaming keyboard and cost well over $100. Not a nice one to be spilling orange soda into! I will have to dismantle it again and put the switches with the PCB into a tub of very warm water and spam all of the affected keys.

Meanwhile yes, the spare keyboard was the old one I had before replacing it. I got the gaming one because it is mechanical and lasts longer (so long as you don't spill stuff into it!) than the conventional ones do.

I had to purchase the lighted keyboard because I lived in a dangerous neighbourhood and in fear, I would not even turn my lights on after dark to be out of sight. I'm out of that place now and in a much nicer, safer environment and lighting isn't an issue anymore.

I will fix the keyboard but for now - articles, articles, articles! I suspect that new list will come out today. I still have some work to do but getting there.
