Member Benevolence - Is This Fair?

I realize that this is probably going to make me very unpopular with some, but I'm not here for a popularity contest, and use WA remaining pretty much in the background - but I have this to say. I hope you, who are reading this post, will see this with an open mind and not that I'm some sort of grumpy baa-humbug person out to rain on others' parades.

You know, I realize that we have some good Ambassadors on here and that some of them deserve the popularity and moral support that they get. Further, support, for the most part is granted to any member on here.

I'm speaking about Paul Goodwin. He's a great person and extremely helpful.

I'm all for supporting him, but there is one thing that is bothering me about what I'm seeing on here the last couple days - the campaigning to forward money to his PayPal account to keep him in here. If something catastrophic has occurred to the member, then there may be just cause. It seems here that the awards are for a member that is well-liked and popular, and perhaps very helpful.

That this isn't wrong in itself, however, this is an unfair proposition.

If a person doesn't have the popularity that he has, or is as likable, that person will not get such support nor are even given sentiments beyond, "Hope it works out for you," or even a farewell. Yes, I've gotten lots of support in the way of encouragement. This is all I would expect. I would like to get benevolence support if it were offered to me when needed, but it isn't and never has. I do not expect it nor do I push it.

However I see it on here from time to time and it's always for someone popular, and occasionally, someone who has experienced serious calamities in life, such as a natural disaster or some other distressful thing.

I was in the position Paul is in now, I had to bite the bullet and let my account cancel numerous times, causing the kind of interruption that occurs with a situation like this.

Yes, I was able to come back the several times it happened to me in my early years here, but I was never given the financial help from the membership that Paul is now getting. As I have always understood, it was up to me, to exercise whatever I could in the way that entrepreneurs do - to figure my way through the problem - as such. It was expected of me, even when I had greater popularity than I do now.

I believe there are even rules on here that make the practice of member benevolence for a member that doesn't have the funds to continue on his own, that such campaigning should not be done on here. Whether in private, that may be a different story. At best, it should be done in private and not where members can see it occurring. What happens then, if soon afterward, another member finds him/herself in the same boat, but the same support is not offered? More than not, this is the case.

This is not a matter of jealousy, but that of fairness. If you do it for one, why not do it for all? That doesn't happen and is what makes it unfair to those who simply do not have the desired personality that can be characterized by magnetism.

It's a novel idea and certainly from the best of intentions, but the problem is, many who wind up having to leave because they can not support themselves due to some economic downsize or fallout in their lives, wind up out the door because they don't get this kind of red carpet treatment. In the real world of entrepreneurship, that's the way it is. Though bail-outs do occur, they're not expected nor common.

This is not an attack on Mr. Goodwin by any means. It is an appeal that if it can't be or won't be done for all, don't do it for anyone, except in special circumstances without regard to who that person is as an honest non-contentious member.

It's all I have to say about the matter.

I thought this was a platform that made money if that is so then someone is not connecting the dots I haven't tried to do any blogging and I haven't started my web site but I will

Yes, it is a platform where folks can learn how to make money. If it is followed to the letter, likelihood of making money increases dramatically. The other thing that matters is your personality and habits. Some folks learn how to do this, but don't have people skills. Both facets need to be exercised.

Very Well Said. If cannot be done for all, do not do it at all!.

That's what I think. It can't possibly be done for all. That's why Kyle & Carson don't want it done at all inside here.

Great point, my friend.

Thanks for the post.

You are very welcome.

Good write up

Thanks :)

I have been seeing a number of members in the same boat as Paul. "I am leaving because I can't afford the cost of staying".
I have no ill will against anyone, but Daniel is right. If we raise funds to help Paul, doesn't it obligate us to help others, too?

Thank you for this Post Daniel .. I acknowledge you for having the courage to say this. Some of what you have said I have been thinking but I did not act as bravely as your have. Paul is a great guy and a great contributor. But as you say, that is not the point.

Great comment from Bob below too.

Cheers, William.

Well, I really don't have anything to lose and it was bothering me. I love Wealthy Affiliate and have, at one time, written much more on here than I do now, but when I see things like this, I would be a coward for not expressing myself on it, if not for the matter of helping WA be the best it can be, then to get it off my chest.

Thanks for your comment. I've had some great conversations with Paul and reading his post about the imminence of having to leave caused compassion in me. We need people like him on here, but we also must be treated the same and follow through with the policies on here.

For my first yearly subscription, almost half if it came from coins I found on the floor over a year's time, which eventually added up to well over $100, probably closer to $200, in a large university in which I worked in the food court in the student center as an utility worker. I have made sacrifices to be able to stay here. It will be the same in March, though I'm preparing for it now, figuring out what I'm going to do now that I'm disabled.

There's a specific prohibition of such postings:

"20. We do not allow any form of fundraising or charity including that campaigning for members here within WA. Please keep all fundraising campaigns external of WA."

Source:

Yes, that's the one. I just didn't go looking for it but knew it was there somewhere. Thanks.

I agree with Daniel and I'm glad to see that admin also agrees that this type of activity should be kept off WA.

I haven't seen this happen because I don't really keep up to date on what is going on in the ambassador circles but it really isn't something I'd be cool with if I happened to come across it.

I'm not on here near as much as I used to but the email notifications bring up things that get my attention. This was one of those. The last time I looked at the Ambassador list was probably a year ago, outside of noticing a person's rank on their blogs.

It's been a while and I hope you are doing well. Some day I would like to come to SVG and visit you.

Still cleaning up old projects to get rid of them and clear my slate, so I can put more into my campaigns.

Thanks for your valuable comment!
