I'm looking at some websites and I feel they are set up different from mine. I'm teaching simple guitar lessons but I don't feel anyone has a reason to buy anything from my sit

I'm a fellow guitarist and I also have a guitar site. The first thing that struck me upon landing on your site is, that it's very bare.

Now, I see you've only been a member for a short time, so you've yet to learn how to make your site visually appealing and all this takes time. You have to brand yourself, create a reputation and a following, get yourself known on social media.

Most importantly, you're going to need a Youtube, guitar lessons are visual, plus you get to add links back to your site every time you publish. Whenever someone comments to your videos that is good SEO and it's FREE.

Your posts seem ok, you know your niche well and the use of images is good. I like the diagrams, did you design those?

Get a nice header designed, give your site some color :)

Thanks Jay. I just need to beef my site up over time. Could you explain how "bare" my site is? For instance, is it the lack of color, as you stated, or something in my initial setup, etc,,? And if I create a channel on youtube, my videos will go directly to my website?

Firstly I'd like to say, you missed a trick by not using your name. It is very eye catching and sounds great for a guitarist. I'd have gone with a name like "Jammin' With Damascus" or something along those lines. But it isn't a big deal at this point, that's something you can consider for the future.

When I said your site is bare, I simply mean it is a little colorless, musicians tend to be quite artistic and visual. Eventually you'll come to lessons about "beautifying" your posts. So again, not something to worry about at this point.

Regarding Youtube, When you get to the social media lessons you'll be setting up a Google+ account, now Google own Youtube anyway, so you'll automatically get a Youtube account. Once you get into the groove and posting videos, you will have an area to post information, that's where you link it up to your site.

You simply copy the "Share" link to your videos and add them to your site. You could either post the video as a stand alone post, or build it into a lesson.

So I wouldn't say you're going in the wrong direction, your posts are well done, you are still learning how t market yourself:)

Oh yeah...yes I made my own diagrams

They're really good, I have another suggestion that's good for marketing. Make PDF books, if you can make diagrams and graphics like that, it's a very good selling point.

People like free stuff, so by giving out free books on your site will gain you traffic. You'll need to get into email marketing by creating a subscriber list for your site, but that's jumping ahead.

I was just thinking about the keyword search engines and optimization of my site. Should I be using keyword search tools like jaaxy when I create every new page. Like a page ab

Yes it is good to do so, this helps people finding it. What is the point if it remains unnoticed.

okay thanks I wanted to make sure.

I started out with simpleguitar.siterubix but when i purchased my domain, i named the site damascusguitar.com. I was excited I could name a domain after myself and work on a br

Content is the key to your site. Try and get low hanging fruit keywords in your titles to your post and a few throughout your post. I noticed that you do not have an email in your privacy page, I use my email here at WA which can be found in your activity dashboard, looks more trusting and sincere. Keep up the good work and post something in every category. The title is very memorable to me. Best of luck with your site and your goals. TerryAnn

Thank you. I'm still working on building my content. Are you talking about an email in my "privacy policy" page or the "about me" page?

Thanks GaryHelm and brendacon for the advice. My mind is eased. I'll just continue to develop my content.

Looks good to me Damascus. Great to see your progress!

Your url or domain don't need to have anything to do with your ranking anymore. Work on your brand and content. Look at such brands as Illy or Starbucks.
