What is a Routine?

A routine is an activity that you carry out daily which has become second nature to you. You do not think about it. You just engage in it. It’s just like brushing your teeth in the morning. You do not have to be reminded to carry out this ritual daily. It has become part of your morning routine.

Just as you have a daily routine for your personal hygiene, it is important for you to have a morning routine in place for your business. It does not matter if you have a 9-5 job or you are a full time, you need a morning routine in place to maximize your time.

First Things first

Put first things first. Wake up with the consciousness of your business uppermost in your mind. Start off with positive visualization of your success as an affiliate marketer. It is important to see yourself in your mind’s eye succeeding in your line of business. Engage in a positive affirmation in which you stress the positive just to drown the negative voices humming in your ears. A combination of meditation and positive affirmation will purge your mind of negativity and put you in the mood to work on your business

An Exercise Regimen

Along with the visualization and meditation, you need to put in some exercise regimen to strengthen your body just as you have strengthened your mind for maximum productivity. Nothing elaborate. A 10-15 minute aerobic exercise will do the job and cause your heart to beat faster. You may put in more time if you are full time and you are not constrained by time.

The Urgent vs the Important

It is important for us to make a distinction between the urgent and the important. The urgent is the one that yells for attention. That email that needs to be replied to, that bill that needs to be paid, phone calls, tasks with close deadlines, and the business of the day. The good thing is the majority of these urgent assignments can be delegated or even delayed. Do not allow yourself to. get caught in the busyness of the urgent. Close your eyes to the urgency otherwise you get drawn into a rabbit hole.

The important but not urgent tasks are the ones that should take your attention because those are the ones that bring about the much-desired growth you are looking for. Unlike the urgent tasks, the important ones do not come at you with screaming sirens. They are long termed planning, exercising, family time, reading, working on your business. They have the potential to transform your life and make your dream of financial freedom come true. Do not allow this important task that will enable you to make your dreams come true be trumped by the shrill call of the urgent.

A To-Do List is Mandatory

Make yourself comfortable and whip out your To-Do List for the day. I would expect you to have prepared one the previous day and prioritized your tasks for the day. Do not exceed 3-4 tasks based on the order of their importance. I do not normally exceed 4 tasks because if I do, I find it difficult to complete them. To-Do lists are a guardrail that prevents me from slipping into do nothingness. A To-Do list gives me the impetus to get started on my goals without wasting time dithering from one task to the other. Each time I accomplish a goal and cross it out, I feel that sense of exhilaration and I am motivated to go to the next goal.

Eat that Frog

It is now time to “eat that frog.” This expression was first used by the renowned writer, Mark Twain to describe an unpleasant task. The thinking behind this expression is if you can accomplish your most unpleasant task first, you stand the chance of accomplishing all the other tasks on your To-Do list.

Make sure you do some deep, uninterrupted work for 30-60 minutes before you exit the door for your 9-5 if you still have one. If not, just continue to your next task……….

Great layout Dada, I do the routine, but the others are lacking. Good info to follow by.

Thanks for sharing.

Elizabeth

Great to hear from you, Elizabeth! As long as you have a routine in place, you just need to tweak it to include an aspect of your business. I appreciate your stopping by. Thank you

My morning routine starts at 5AM every morning:

- remember my dreams a note them down (memory training)
- Shower and getting ready, including an Ice Cold shower to kickstart my brain and nervous system (also training my resolve)
- Affirmations and mindset exercise for 5 minutes(from PGI, Tony R or Power Life Scripts)
- Brushing my teeth (left hand for brain training)
- Making my bed, a tidy room and house equals a tidy mind
- Some stretching exercises
- A glass of lemon water for body cleansing
- Walking the dog
- Coffee (green coffee) and a quick "run through) of the day.
- 30 minutes of reading, usually Napeopelon Hill and similar
- 30 minutes of blogging
- 15 minutes for checks of email.

Off to work if it is work week, during the weekend there is WA DMO, website health checks, keyword research, social media planning and more. for the rest of the day.

One thing that is outmost important to me is the affirmation and the mindset exercises.

Roy

Great, Roy! Such a comprehensive morning routine. Great discipline. I am curious, Roy. Just how do you undertake the cold morning shower in Winter?

I am not sure exactly what you mean. But, I go into the shower and shower normally at first. At the end of that, I just turn the knob all the way to stop pint for the ice-cold water to and covering my body with the water for 2-3 minutes. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall doesn´t matter.

If I had had a cold river or similar outside, I would go out and jumped into the water, no matter which season it is.

It is a real mindset exercise 😄.

Roy

Roy, it sure sounds scary to me. I would go ahead and give it a try. I would get back to you when I do. Thanks.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience :-D

You guys are all organized.
1. I wake up
2. Go back to sleep.
3. Wake up.
4. Maybe brush something.
5. Not do exercise.
6. Make Breakfast for my Family.
7. Not eat frogs!
8. Maybe go back to bed.
9. Wake up.
10. Brush my teeth.
It is a long morning so I will leave it there.

Thank you Dadaz. This was fun.

Ntlhane

Hi Nithane, you still have a routine in place even though you had to go to bed twice in a single morning! and you don't have to literally eat a frog!

A blueprint for success, there, Dada, thanks for sharing your insights. Developing a routine can be one of the best things we can do, it certainly helps to create consistency. At the moment I run with a general routine which allows for the utmost flexibility. Some days can be a crazy ride yet still have a stable routine at the core of things.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. A routine that allows us some flexibility like yours allows us to practice such routines for a long time. I appreciate your input.

Good morning Dada
I've recently changed my morning routine
This is what I do now
Prayer and devotion
60 minutes exercise
Revisit my daily goals
If it is the first day of the week, then I will make my weekly goals and prioritise them into days
Then I take it from there and take breaks accordingly

Great morning routine, Simone! You sure put the first things first. You seem to have a long morning at your disposal. Good thing you incorporate breaks in your morning routine.

Of course :)
