Are you a Winner or a Whiner?

We all want to win! That’s why we came to the Wealthy Affiliate portal to train to become Digital Entrepreneurs. We want to make those big hairy goals that propelled us through the front door of Wealthy Affiliate come true in our lives.

What’s your Big, Hairy Goal?

Is it the dream of becoming financially independent so you can live life on your own terms? Could it be a less personal and more altruistic dream of philanthropy? Or is it the self-satisfying treat of taking a vacation on the sunny beaches of Cancun? For some of us who come from cultures that pride ourselves in the extended family system, it could be the ability to send a few distant relatives through college. Whatever it is, we all have set goals we want to achieve.

The Differences between a Winner and a Whiner?

These set goals are in the front and center of our minds and inform what we do. The fake gurus gave some of us unrealistic expectations that Affiliate Marketing was instant money-making. When we stepped into Wealthy Affiliate, we were struck by all we had to learn and implement. As a winner, you have had to tone down those expectations but the whiner still holds on to them.

There have been challenges on the way but your winner’s mindset is made up for success. It took you a while to wrap your hand around some of the new concepts you had to learn. You used to see SEO but it meant little or nothing to you. Now you know what it means and how to apply it to your writing so it is optimized for indexing by Google.

Google used to be an electronic encyclopedia of sorts that you approached when you did not understand the meaning of a word or phrase but now you know that your ranking in Google can determine the flow of traffic to your website and ultimately, the realization of your dream of financial freedom. You now have a different perspective of Google as an ally in achieving your most desired goals.

As a winner, you have made adjustments, especially to your timing. You extended the time you have given yourself to realize your goal. The whiner is not accepting of the fact that there is a learning curve in WA and a need to adjust the timeline for the realization of their dreams. They want success now!

The winner sees writing blogs every day as a way of improving and refining their art of writing. Writing becomes second nature to you when you engage in it every day and it becomes easier and less frightening the more you engage in it.

The whiner sees little profit in writing every day so they can transform into better writers in the end.

What it takes to go from a Whiner to a Winner

The first step towards going from a whiner to a winner is taking your focus off the time for the actualization of your goals. It’s not for nothing that Wealthy Affiliate has not put a timeline on when you would finish the course. And as you would have found out by now, you do not even have to finish the course before you start earning.

After you have removed all unrealistic expectations, allow the three Ps of patience, perseverance and persistence to guide you in monetizing your websites.

It is a continuous learning journey. You need a dose of patience as you learn new things and unlearn old ones. You need persistence and perseverance to goad you along even when you do not feel like doing so.

The Story of Ernest Hemmingway

This incident happened sometime before Ernest Hemmingway became a renowned writer. Young and relatively unknown, Ernest Hemmingway was in Switzerland, when he asked his wife Hadley to bring all his writings from France for editor Laurence Steffens to take a look.

.

She packed up all of Hemmingway’s papers in a suitcase to take to him in Switzerland. While the train was still standing at Lyon, France she went to buy a bottle of Evian water. By the time she came back, the suitcase with all of Hemmingway’s writings had disappeared into thin air! Hadley had packed both the originals and their carbons!

For us as affiliate marketers, it is the equivalent of losing all your websites and content that had not been backed up, in a humongous computer crash!

Ernest Hemmingway took his friend and fellow writer Ezra Pound’s advice to heart. He thanked his star for the opportunity to start afresh and went on to become not only a Nobel prize winner but a world-famous writer. He used his loss as a stepping stone to becoming a literary giant!

That to me is the true spirit of a winner. Hemingway refused to quit! The total loss was not enough to make him abandon writing.

What would you have proven to be if faced with such a loss: A winner or a whiner?

Conclusion

You make that transition from a whiner to a winner only when you start seeing your challenge not as a problem but as an opportunity to grow and develop the patience, persistence and perseverance to stay on it until you get the job done.

I am in this for the long haul. What about you?

Hugh

So true, Hugh. A winner mindset trumps fear and doubt. Thanks for your comment.

Yeah Dada that's all we got room for...winning!

Sure, Hugh!

The thing about words is that we don't own them, only let them speak for us, for a while. Amazing story about, Ernest Hemmingway, he lost all his work, he didn't lose, his a ability to write, in a way at that point he found real freedom. I guess that defines a winner. Thank you for sharing your insights Dada.

The loss of Hemmingway's manuscripts and carbons was a positive catalyst that drove him to becoming a world famous writer. A lesser personality would have been daunted by the loss and thrown in the towel.
Alex, thank you so much for your contribution.

I am a winner, in this process for definitely the long haul, Dada

I see my many, many challenges as a way to prove myself to myself

Thank you Dada
