David Ogilvy who is considered " the father of modern Advertising" has this to say on Headlines: " On average five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your heading, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar."

What Ogilvy is implying is that the headline makes up 80% of the value of your post; the content is a mere 20%.

The headline is the doorway that lets the reader into the content. If they find the doorway unattractive, how will they get to the storehouse ( content?)

Your headline should arouse the reader’s curiosity to want to find out what is inside the storehouse ( content ). If you can not pique your reader’s interest with a catchy headline, chances are he will bypass your post for one that can.

How Catchy Headlines will Ramp Up Traffic to Your Post

  • It will grab people’s attention.

Conclusion

The idea behind this post is to provide you with a fallback when you finish your write-up and do not seem to be able to find a catchy headline.

I have had times when it’s been a struggle to come up with a catchy headline for a finished post

If you ever find yourself in such a situation, let this post be some form of inspiration to you. You can just pick one of the formats and plug in the necessary words.

I would be the first to admit that there is little that is original about this post. They are simply headlines you will find in hundreds of affiliate marketing copies but I am in full agreement with what Jon Morrow said that:

“ One of the worst ways you can torture yourself as a writer is to believe everything you do has to be original.”

I have read quite a bit about Mr. Ogilvy since I started this journey along with others such as Scientific Advertising by Claude C Hopkins, and How to write Copy that sells, by, Ray Edwards.

The old masters - I love them. I will reread what I have by Ogilvy.

Thanks for the Headlines.

Alex

Thanks, Alex for your positive comments. You cannot write about Advertising and leave out Ogilvy's name just as you cannot do copywriting without headlines.
I appreciate your comment.

That is very true as I am so guilty of it. I often read the headline and move on, or just the first paragraph. If that doesn't give me the information I want, I just move on. I am probably an affiliate marketer's worst nightmare.

Thanks for your true confession, Geoffrey. You are not alone. Most of us do the very same thing.
Thanks for your comment.
