One of the arrows you would need in your quiver as an online marketer is an abundant supply of confidence.

When you look at the steep learning curve ahead of you and all the things you are required to know, you become discouraged. But do you know that you can take in an enormous amount of information in bite-size capsules over time? Wealthy Affiliate has done a great job of sequencing and releasing online marketing information in drips so you don’t get overwhelmed

What is Confidence? Confidence is a continuous process of freeing yourself of any self-imposed limitations that can stand in the way of achievement of your goals

Come to think of it, according to this definition, most of the things that rob us of our confidence is imposed by us and so we have the ability to rid ourselves of these limitations with consistent practice.

Confidence is not inherited; it is borne out of practice. It is not an heirloom that can be passed over from father to son or from mother to daughter. It is just like a muscle which grows bigger and stronger with each exercise. By acting with a little more confidence in different situations, you can quietly change from that shy, reclusive person to a confident you.

Self-confidence is something that can be learned very much like any other thing.

So how do you build confidence?

1 Do what you are good at first.

Organize your day so that the emphasis is on your strengths and gradually work your way to your area of weakness.

So go from easy to complex and from the known to the unknown. When you start from the known to the unknown, or easy to complex, you would build a reservoir of confidence to see you through the unknown or complex

But if you go the other way round, you will be discouraged from the onset and may not even bother to finish what you have started..

During the course of the journey, recall some of your past successes and how you have attained them. The ability to visualize some of your past successes and how you were able to accomplish them would give you courage to forge ahead.

2 Draw up a Daily To Do List with a Timeline.

Note I did not say you should draw up a Daily To Do list alone but one with a Timeline. That’s because I have found out from experience that I tend to spend more time on preferred activity to non-preferred activity. The timeline helps me to check this tendency.

A Daily To Do List not only structures your day but makes it easier for you to navigate . For me starting my day without a To do list would make me look like a deer caught in headlight. Without a To do list, my day would be unproductive and wasted. I would just spend my time flitting from one social media to the other and making endless phone calls. The lack of productivity and time loss would negatively impact my confidence.

But when I have a structured day based on a prepared To Do list, every time a job is completed and crossed out,I feel a boost of confidence and a new ‘can do’ attitude.

3 Get out of Solitary Confinement:

In our day to day life, we want to be more confident when seeing friends and meeting new people. Who doesn’t? The reality is we spend our time in ‘solitary confinement’ watching hours and hours of TV or playing computer games. Social media has made us more isolated than we have ever been in the history of this nation. We have substituted smileys and likes on a Facebook page for sense of touch and hugs.

As budding online marketers, we have to make an even more conscious attempt to break out of the solitary confinement jam just because whether we like it or not, being an online marketer can be solitary.

Go out on a limb on your next grocery store run, strike up a conversation with a total stranger. Get to know your neighbors, community members, team members. Engage in relationship marketing by getting to know your neighbors. Introduce yourself to them and let them know, you are an online marketer. Be personable.

You will come to realize that majority of people are friendly and happy to engage in conversation with you and there’s actually nothing to fear.

Doing these 3 things consistently will give you all the confidence you need to build your WA business.

Interesting the first thing you speak of in the article is doing what you love first. I had always heard that to be more of a case of "do what you don't like first, while you have the emotion and concentration to work". Use the tasks that you like as a reward when you have accomplished some disliked task.
You have an interesting spin on it. I like it.
Cheers
Leona

Thanks, Leona for your observation on my post. I appreciate. If you are a complete newbie, it makes sense to tackle the task you know first. The accomplishment of your first task will give you the surge of confidence you need to tackle the more challenging ones.
If you attempt your first task and can't make headway, it will certainly have a dampening effect on your ability to do the relatively difficult tasks.
When you are a little comfortable with doing all the tasks at hand, you can now decide to do the one you don't like first. Brian Tracy calls it, "Eat that frog."
I would suggest you use something outside the tasks as a reward.

Ah I see what you mean, from a newbie standpoint, and then from a standpoint of one who has been "eating the frog" for a while. I like it.
And I do see how something outside the tasks as a reward makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.
Cheers,
Leona

Thank you so much NewLaurie! I appreciate your input

Dada - this is a super blog post on being productive and building (or maintaining) confidence!

I've always felt that self confidence is like a muscle - if you don't keep it healthy by pushing beyond your comfort zone, it can weaken over time.

Thanks for sharing this with the community!

Thank you so much for that observation, Laurie. Great analogy. The more you use it, the more confident you become; the less you use it, the less confident you are. So much like the muscle that atrophies if unused.
