Writing. to the Future!

This is kind of in line with what I once asked, about whether people write with a persona in mind, or just as themselves. It also ties in a bit with another blog about considering one's name here at WA carefully, as it will affect how people see you.

We all come in to WA with certain hopes and dreams, thinking about our future and what we would like it to be. Many of us, however, don't really plan for it the way we could, or consider things like how our current blogs and questions might be viewed by future friends and followers.

I am guilty of that, as I write about both my ups and downs here at WA and (occasionally) elsewhere (work, home, etc). I do that because I want to show both sides, and because I don't really have any desire to obfuscate any of my experiences. In fact, I like to think and hope that my difficulties-- whether not understanding something, or simply having a low point in terms of desire and ambition-- can be of use to others if they see someone struggle but continue regardless. I don't plan on quitting until I am forced to (which may be soon, given that my year membership expires in 2 months or so... I am anxious to see how the Universe (you there, Dude?) will help me continue).

More and more, though, I am considering what people might think about what I am writing a year or two from now. Or even a couple of months from now.... I wouldn't want to have a referral come here to WA, excited to build an online business and see a bunch of my blogs talking about being broke and not making any money...

I am torn, therefore, between wanting to share it all, and wanting to cultivate a more positive view, without any of the negative stuff along the way. I also try to pay attention to the fact that-- if we follow the Law of Attraction, which many people here seem to do-- the fact that I would write about financial difficulties and not being able to find a job, is helping to reinforce those things and making them more difficult to overcome.

So, I am at a point now where I am considering making a change to the way I write and what I choose to write about. Writing is a perfect example of how our thoughts become reality; our blogs and everything we write are our thoughts given physical form, so we need to be careful what we put into the world.

Even if you are a brand new member here at WA with a dozen followers, if you keep working at it, you will at some point in the future have a reach in the thousands... That's a lot of responsibility if you think about it. Anything you write could be the thing that makes or breaks someone else's decision to continue here.

Wealthy Affiliate has a wonderfully positive community already, but we can never have too much of that. Be positive, create positive things. Of course we can still write about our struggles, but put the emphasis on how those struggles are overcome.

Get out there and spread some positivity!

On a side not, unrelated to the above, I wish WA would allow ellipses in titles. It should be "Writing... to the Future!" but the ellipsis was omitted. Poop on that.

Hi, Craig, I think that the way of online marketing is not that easy or as easy as all those flashy sales pages make out. Here at WA the learning is so subtle and I imagine Kyle and Carson wake on a daily basis and pinch themselves just to make sure that they are not dreaming at what they have created, This place evolves on a daily basis along with the people that are here.
To me that is the beauty of this platform, is that evolution as we grow we develop new skills so in a way we are working towards becoming that complete package you actually witness that in folks over time and that is one of the inspiring things about WA.
It is living it and creating that and putting it out there as our skill sets increase so does our ability to promote successfully truly believe that one, I got a lot from your post thank you.

Thank you! I always appreciate your comments.
I love seeing people develop and grow. I always enjoyed training people at work for that reason, and so when I see people here who started out anxious and nervous now being great ambassadors (with or without the title) it is amazing to me.

I think WA is truly a great place, which is why I am trying to promote it and bring in new members.

So true Craig I think that when we reach that point where we know that we are involved in something special it is so easy to find that voice that just speaks volumes and I guess that is the infectious element that folks buy into.

Craig, your blogs are really encouraging! This one especially. Writing and sharing your everyday experiences whether good or bad won't actually have a negative impact. The amount of a person's positivity is determined by how well he handles negativity. So, even if you are posting something that's attached to a negative feeling, the way you conclude your blog, in the end, is what ultimately turns the negative emotions into positive ones.

However, posting negative comments provoked by bad feelings without the affirmation to overcome them is what really can be described as negativity in life. Procrastination and fear of failure in life are bad signs. The power to overcome these thoughts and habits and turn them into something good, is the ultimate path to success.

Well, maybe this could be my blog for today, but you inspired me to post it as a comment. Have a nice day!

I agree.

Great comment. Thanks for responding.

Many, many years ago, when I was working at my very first job, one of my co-workers was a young man from France, who was a believer in what we always lumped together as "New Age" ideas, such as reincarnation, visualisation, etc. He used to always talk to me about the "vibrations" of things and how he didn't like certain types of music, for example, because the vibrations were harmful and upset his nervous system.

Given that I was into hard rock and heavy metal, I used to discuss this with him and I always maintained that it was just energy, which one could use in a positive or negative manner (which at the time, always made me think of the Force in Star Wars...)

I think that, yes, writing about a negative experience can have a positive effect, such as inspiring someone to persevere in their own struggles, but there are different ways to focus on it. I will still comment on challenges that I face, but with a greater emphasis on the solutions and positive resolutions.

Some topics may not affect the reader so much, but can have their effect on me as the writer. As mentioned above, if I continue to write about how hard it is to find a job, I am then adding energy to the notion that I can't find one, reinforcing the reality of it. I don't want to do that. I also don't want to write various blogs about how my site doesn't make any money. If I bring in a new member tomorrow and he looks at one of those blogs, he might think "well, he's been here over a year and isn't making money. What a waste of time!" no matter how positive I try to be.

I am not going to bury my head in the sand and sing "la la la, everything is wonderful!" but I am also not going to give the negative thoughts as much time as I have in the past.

Thanks again for commenting!

I totally agree! Except for the heavy metal and rock part! I love heavy metal and will continue to do so! Hahaha anyway, your posts are really inspiring. Thank for replying, I appreciate it

My preferred music is still metal, hard rock and alternative (especially from the 80's). I can and do listen to almost anything though.
Except rap. I think there have been less than a half-dozen rap songs that I have liked, though I don't mind it's inclusion in songs from bands like Linkin Park.

Linkin Park is a sensitive matter for the last month or so. Chester's death really hit me...

I understand.

I was very sad when Chris Cornell died, but Chester's death is the one that made me gasp out loud and pull over because I was driving when I heard.

Very encouraging post.

LOL, did you notice the last 3 words in the context of spreading positivity :D

it's what we write and what we feel too, that bit take practice...

I'm... a work in progress.
Ha ha!
Thanks for pointing that out.

it was so funny!

we are all a work in progress, nice to see the direction you are taking ;)

Good evening Graig,

Sounds great! Thanks!
I will email you shortly.

I understand your opinion.
When I write in my personal diary, I talk about positive things even if I have a bad day. Maybe it's strange. I know that everything is for the best. :)

I remember one of my old managers telling me "if someone asks 'how are you?' always answer ' good!' even if you are having a horrible day, because you always want to be positive."

Focusing on positive things brings more positive things to you.

Yeah...I don't agree. It is that annoying fake positivity that can get on people's nerves. I prefer someone I can relate to.

I don't think it's fake though. I have had a number of days where I went to work in a less-than-stellar mood for whatever reason, and by forcing myself to be positive (it's customer service, so you smile, be polite, try to act friendly, etc) you actually become positive. Making your body act happy seems to make your brain go "wait, what? We're happy? Oh, ok! I'm happy!"

Of course, if you are overdoing it with exaggerated smiles, while bouncing off the walls in an attempt to look jolly, well then I would agree with you. THAT is phony.

I used to always say "not bad!" if asked how I was, but now it is so ingrained in me to smile and say "good!" that it just happens automatically, and I don't think it ever comes out as phony.

Yes, that is very true.

From the outside looking in, I feel that you should write what is in your heart and mind. Let the future sort out what the writings mean. Wishing you continued productivity.

Writing is fun, it is a means to express your inner most hidden thoughts, and showing the world who you really are. If they don't like it, well, they won't read your thoughts :) I like reading your posts as I think you're a great guy :)

Thank you! I appreciate you saying that.

You're more than welcome, Craig...

I agree with your change of focus. We have to walk our talk, and the universal laws all discourage negative thinking. It is sometimes hard to affirm things that we just haven't experienced yet. I have found tweaking the affirmations just a tad helps me. So, instead of saying...I haven't made any money yet...I say ...I'm learning how to increase my income flow. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Debbie

Thanks for the response.

I really do want to focus on being as positive as possible, both for myself and for others. I agree with your approach to affirmations. There are those who will tell you that you must visualise things as if they have already manifested in your life, but for many people, that can be rather challenging, so I think that it might help to approach it from a slightly different angle.

Good evening Debbie,
