Well, Now, Isn't That Annoying?

Sigh.

So I sat down to do some work on my site and worked on a post. I am not sure how long I worked on it, but it was a little while at least. I hit "Publish," and then went to another site in another window.

When I came back, I clicked on Dashboard and was asked if I really wanted to exit. This made me think that I actually hadn't published, even though I was sure I had. I opened another window and checked my site, seeing no evidence of the post anywhere, so I chose not to exit and hit Publish again. For the first time I've ever seen, it asked me "Are you sure you want to do this?" I hit whatever single option it gave me (It wasn't yes/ no, but I forget what it said) and... poof. My post was gone, never to be recovered.

I have no idea what happened or why it didn't publish. Now I have to go try to re-create it, which... is annoying.

Hey Craig, did you check the trash in your dashboard?

Actually, I don't remember if I checked that... I'd like to say yes, but I'm not sure. Fortunately, the issue somehow resolved itself.

Good for you Craig. I would have been a bummer if you had lost all that work. Putting together content is not always easy with having to research keyword and using it to make sense in your writings. Happy that you got this resolved.
Jerome

Thanks to everyone who responded. Sorry I didn't write back to everyone individually. This is still confusing me, but he good news is that I got it back. Or rather, it seems to have come back by itself...

Either I was too fatigued to think straight, or my computer is haunted, or... I don't know. I had checked for an auto-saved draft, I had followed other suggestions, and still I found nothing. I closed everything and took a break. When I came back hours later, the post was there as a draft, but I swear it wasn't there before.

I feel kind of dumb now, but at least it was there and I'll know that in the future it might be best to just walk away for a bit. Very strange, but at least it resolved itself.

Thanks again everyone.

Yep, it happens Craig... so you were the person that took down the whole WA site!!!...lol that must of been some kind of post.

Have to agree with another member, compose offline then copy and paste...says KiwiGeorge who composes most things online and prays that everything will hold together.

What I have learned to do is save as draft from the get go then when ready ...publish.

Too bad Craig... I pray you find solution soon.
Cheers!

Obviously, this is; That is why I ALWAYS compose my blog on my word processor and copy and paste it into my blog so I do not have to try and redo it!

That is so disappointing. I don't recall that ever happening to me but I can understand your sense of anguish! I hope Phil's advice below helps out.

Hi there,
Please see images below
If you type in the title of your post again
a revision of your original post may be saved...
Cheers..PB

Mine did the same, but instead my computer went black when I tried to hit publish. It's a new computer so I'm thinking it might be SiteRubix. I save everything I do on an external hard drive every so often while I'm creating, that in itself can be annoying, but it beats better than starting over.

Look for auto saved copies.
John

Yes, I was hoping that auto save would, well, save me. Sadly, I don't see any sight of it. I really don't know what happened. I've never seen that before.

It's not the end of the world, just frustrating.

Ugh :(
