May Have to Start a New Site

I have mentioned a couple of times now that I am doing some content writing for a couple of different sites. The husband of an old friend has his own business doing this sort of work and has become too busy to handle it by himself, which is what resulted in me joining him.

I was initially hesitant to write for him, as I didn't really think that what I was producing was "professional" enough to be paid for it, but he seemed quite happy with the first piece I did for him, and then continued to offer me new assignments. Now he gives me a list of things to write with the deadlines at the start of each month. The work isn't too hard, given that most of what his clients are asking for tends to be 500-600 words. The only time-consuming part is research.

I commented a while back that if he can afford to pay me, he must be earning at least double what I receive per assignment. I assume he is actually splitting it 60-40 in his favour, So if I am being paid $35 per blog, I would guess that he is charging his clients about $80 or more, and he mentioned that his rates are going up next month.

I wouldn't have though that the simple little blogs I am writing would be worth that much, but here are some of the comments he's sent me recently:

  • "The client really liked your Why Hackers Target Small and Medium Size Businesses blog--well done sir."
  • "You are the man! Also, one of the accountants YOU write for, said the blog you did was her favorite so far. Getting lots of great feedback from clients."
  • "Oh, and the Marketing blog your wrote was phenomenal--They loved it."

I feel kind of weird posting that because it feels like I am bragging, which I don't like, but my point is that I am not doing anything that special, but am being praised, and more importantly, paid, to do it. AND I could probably expect to be paid double what I am making now if I was working on my own.

So, my point in writing this is to encourage you guys by saying you can take the skills you have been honing here at WA and put them to work right now.to start earning money while you continue to learn, either by finding someone to write for like I am doing, or even by starting your own site offering content writing services.

I am seriously debating doing just that, though I don't know if I want to work on 3 sites at once. We'll see. I am sure that many of you out there could do this type of work and make some cash while developing your niche site.

You should be really proud of yourself and have more confidence in your abilities.

You're not bragging, you're just rubbing it in our faces. :-)

Just kidding I think it's great that you have been able to pick up some extra income this way. It's also good to hear because it means there are other ways to make money in this field then just running a website.

Keep it up and keep letting us know of your successes. There motivational.

ovides you with the tools to make money several different ways! You just need to keep your eyes open and watch for opportunities.

I can only see this as a positive - chance to earn income while continuing to refine your skill set. Always a good idea to be flexible in our thinking to be ready for when opportunity presents. Go for it!

Great blog post. You have me seriously thinking of doing this now. I could use the money for Christmas and anniversary gifts! Never mind to pay bills which is why I started here at WA in the first place. lol

It would probably take a while to get rolling, so I don't know if it would help in time for Christmas, but who knows?

Do you have to set up a completely new site? Is your current site anything, such as business related, that you can slide in your content writing offers?

Not really.... I could try, but it would be a major stretch.

I agree with Mary...don't under estimate yourself. You are a terrific writer...your style is very reader -friendly. Your right, we do have many possibilities. Believe it and achieve it. Thanks.

I thought I would write this because someone recently mentioned that they were having difficulty with their niche site and I thought that given the demand that I am starting to see for content writing, they might be able to do what I am doing while continuing to develop their site. Or if someone is looking for ideas for a site to create, this could potentially be worthwhile.

And thanks for the compliment. :)

You are doing a good job Craig. keep up the good work and this will pay off for you financially.

My problem is I am not doing the work. I recently wondered, why I am not making any money with wealthy affiliate and then found out that I have not even completed 15% of the training. So my goals for 2018 is to complete the certification course 100% and also complete the affiliate boot camp training 100%.

I know that once I complete the training and do all the work, then I will be successful with wealth affiliate.

Definitely. If you follow along and learn everything you can from the lessons, I have no doubt that you will succeed. Anyone who has not succeeded has likely had the same experience of not really doing the work necessary.

Well don't under rate yourself, I read your blogs because you can actually write well - I think it is Steve/Ivetriedthat who gave figures on what one paid -or blog actually makes for him, it is way way more than double what he pays people and more along the lines of 10 times, and I see from Dom's site the going prices for buying content

if you set up to sell you have some overheads with running a business there to factor in, but the figures you quoted us for last month were seriously good, maybe comparable to some amazon niche sites...

The training here would give people an edge in writing content if they apply it regarding SEO too

I will have to check out their blogs then. Guess I missed those ones.

I was trying to be a bit generous when I said he's splitting 60-40. I really have no idea. I guess I still just have trouble wrapping my head around the notion of my writing being worth THAT much. I do think I write reasonably well, and that I am normally quite readable, but to think that I could be earning that much from so little? Crazy.

Then again, I hear stories all the time of people and businesses spending crazy money on stuff...

The clients that I am writing for have their own "SEO specialists" so that makes me think that if I were writing and handling the SEO, that bumps up the value even more. The only real issue would be getting the clients to begin with, but I figure I am getting some experience right now, making contacts, and effectively building a portfolio that I can show later if I strike out on my own.

I just wanted to post this to show another possible way to earn online that WA is very helpful with.

Good information and advice. Glad to hear your doing well.
Have a great weekend.

Thank you! You too.

Thanks for sharing, Craig.
