I Now See the Point of Google Plus

Back when I did the training that asked us to start posting to Google+, I really didn't see the point. As I looked at it at the time, I asked myself "what is the point of this? I can post links here, but the only ones who are going to see them are those who are following me, and only about 15 people are following me..."

Well, I guess that may have been a cynical point of view.

Last night before going to bed, I was fooling around a bit and wound up searching for a couple of my posts on Google to see if they show up anywhere in the first dozen pages, and while my actual site is nowhere to be seen (sigh), two of my posts on G+ are somehow first page results...

That seems pretty crazy (and honestly, faintly annoying) to me, but I'll take it. I guess technically I now have a page 1 ranking? Huh.

So while it isn't getting me any real traffic yet, it may help more than I thought.

Edit: So, I checked it out in incognito mode as was suggested to me....

Google, you're a liar ! You suck! Ha ha ha

I'm not actually upset or anything, but I don't understand why Google does that.

social media is very powerful and one of the ways to market for no cost or very little cost when you compare it to offline marketing costs and what makes Google+ powerful is the fact that it's part of Google

Easy does it. Be patient. Congrats on your posts!!!

that is promising...and its giving me hope that I may make it to that point someday!I barely started and I can honestly say At this point I am so overwhelmed with information, and I am less enthusiastic

Virtually everyone here has hit a wall at some point. A couple of weeks ago, I was tossing my hands in the air, ready to walk away for a while, but I was creating many (most?) of my own problems by looking ahead at things I hadn't learned yet and allowing myself to become stressed about them.

Take a deep breath and just go step by step, or even go back a step or two if something is unclear. You can get through it.

You should get payed, for them posting your information!

I wish!

Yeah, that's Google Plus, it posts your posts. I also have two.

My blog is connected to google+ ...have to check where am I in wellness world

Craig - Did you check the ranking of your posts in an incognito window? If you do, and you still see those posts on Page 1, Congratulations!

I just left a comment about this for Craig. Same thing happened to me. I wrote one blog the first time I saw it, then an updated one the other day. Incognito is new to me and found out that same day of my second update blog that it was FAKE! Not impressed at all!
I deleted both blogs so I wouldn't get any more congratulations comments.

I'll have to do that, though I am unsure how.

Yes, I just saw your post. :(
Poop.
So, how do we do this incognito mode?

Incognito is opening a private window to check your ranking from Google the way other's see it. We are not a visitor and see it differently when we do a search for keyword for example.

We are visiting our site frequently so Google will show you your preferences on the first page. No matter where you share your blog, Google+, or on YouTube for example.

Incognito does other things but it's not important right now.
I only know how to do this in Chrome:

When doing a Google search, while in Chrome, on the top right tab, click and find 'New incognito window'. Click on that and a new window comes up and you will see the man with the hat icon. You are incognito now ready to do a google search.

Enter what you did to bring the page up that has you listed.

To close out of incognito, tap on the small box with the number in it, which indicates how many tabs you have open. Then go back and close the incognito tab you started with.

Let me know if you need more help.

Actually, it's kind of funny... I was typing a response to someone else and hit... something... on my keyboard, opening an incognito window. So there is a keyboard shortcut, but I have no idea what it is!

Ha! I'm going to check my keyboard.

Actually, there are keys to press to get there instead of going to the top right menu in Chrome. I'll go check, I remember seeing it in brackets right beside 'new incognito window'.

Yes, it's Ctrl+Shift+N

I may be turned around on subject; Stand by....

The Google web spreads wide and far. Enjoy the coverage!

Craig, It seems that anything you do with google helps. I'll take it.
Barbara

Yeah, I'll happily take it too!

I had a silly reaction to it, too, as they show my profile picture beside it, so I was like "that's me! That's ME on Google!" like I'm suddenly a celebrity or something. Lol. Probably because it was late at night and I needed sleep. At least, that's the excuse I am using. Ha ha
