Biting off More than I can Chew?

Well, on one hand I am feeling pretty happy, but on the other hand, pretty nervous.

So, I have a site that deals with various elements of geek culture, including, but not limited to, video games. I have been following the development of one particular game which is being made by an independent studio, but which is gathering a fair bit of attention. I reached out to them half-jokingly suggesting that since they were a new, relatively unknown developer that had come out of nowhere, maybe they would be willing to show a little love to developing site and share with me any little exclusive that I could pass on.

To my surprise, they contacted me through chat on Facebook saying yes. They also checked out my site and re-tweeted one of my posts. Huh.

So that is all great and wonderful, but they suggested that they could do a video interview with me, or they could take me on a video tour of the in-game city that is being developed. Pretty cool, no?

And I have NO idea how to do that.

Is there a free, easy-to-use (please, let it be easy) program that I could use to record a Skype interview, or whatever we use to communicate? I could obviously ask them, but I have some concerns about appearing less professional if I don't seem to know what I am doing! Ha ha!

Any thoughts or feedback would be very welcome!

Congrats...that is AWESOME!!!!

You can do this!!!

T

Thank you! It's kind of exciting.

That's a terrific news. One little action on your part could lead to something huge. Maybe they will take the lead on creating the video. If not, good suggestions below. Best if luck!
Debbie

Thank you.
I'll figure something out, but I feel like it happened so fast that I'm like "umm... what just happened?"

Wow, congratulations.

Thanks!

Hi Craig,
Congratulations! A company wants you to promote their game. That's big. I work with kids, the gaming niche is a powerhouse. I would pursue that niche, but with my eye issues, the games will make me dizzy. The gamers on Youtube who record and narrate their game adventures are getting millions of hits a month.

If the game is decent and it's new...well, the potential is unlimited.

I"m a technology teacher working with kids who know more than I do about certain things, especially games like Minecraft. I'm trying to learn.

If you don't know it Google it and figure it out without telling anyone. You're smart, you can do it.

If you want to make real money, the game niche is where it can happen overnight. Go for it. Lots of good links in the comments to screen recording software. That's what makes WA head and shoulders above other marketing platforms - the support.

Wendy

Thanks for the response!

This would be a PC game, so I am not sure how well that compares to console games, with which I am more familiar. Still, I think it could be a great opportunity.

I reached out to some people I know who have been following the game's development a little more closely than I have and asked them to make some suggestions about things they want to learn more about. If there are things that haven't been covered in various other interviews, that's what I will focus on.

The kids like both console and PC, and more and more are playing on their phone or tablet. Whatever you pick, good luck. Gaming sites and products are a goldmine. :-)

PC games are HUGE too, think of WOW for example. Millions and millions of players.

Yes, this would actually be an MMO like WOW.

My husband even plays that and there are so many people all over the world.

My wife and I used to play a game (shut down now) with a pretty regular group that included members from Montreal (us), Toronto, Chicago, and several other US cities, as well as one or two people overseas. It was great. I still miss it, actually.

The game I reached out to would be something of a successor to that one.

You will have fun with this if nothing else!

I have no suggestions but want to say......YAY!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!!

Thank you!
I am happy...
... and faintly intimidated. Ha ha

Sounds exciting!

Screencast-O-Matic is a fab tool we use to capture the screen while we play (my son reckons he's a youtuber, aha).

I see people using zoom as well, to record their FB lives, so they can share them on other platforms, but I've never used it myself.

All the best!

Thank you!

I will check out the different options and see what is easiest (I am a fan of easy)!

I appreciate the response!

see chrisscott's trainer on how to do a trainer - basically he shows you how to use the free download monosnap to record what's playing on your screen - but I'd test out first how to do that when you have a mic or whatever going on...

ps you just click on the monosnap icon and it gives an option to record desktop - just make sure if you've mics or whatever that all is going into it

I will look that up!

I will take a couple of days to prep. I may be a newb at this, but that doesn't mean I have to come across as one. :)

As I mentioned below, even if nothing comes from it (though hopefully something will), I am happy just to get the experience. I am pleased by the fact that they are taking me seriously enough to do this, and the fact that they tweeted out a link to my site makes me feel validated.

they saw something in you, you had the guts to reach out to them, you have a lot of knowhow, and in the background you have an army that are here to help you out :)

it's interesting how doors are opening for you so soon after you decided to be positive and get serious and all those other things you spoke about in your blogs - basically you are a very good example of how quick things can happen when we get out mind in the right place, we hear about that all the time, but we are seeing it here now with you...whatever happens, this already did ;)

Thank you so much.
That definitely crossed my mind, how it came on the heels of that post. I truly hope it is a sign of things shifting. Several people here at WA have commented how they would work, work, work, and then suddenly things would fall into place all at once, almost like flipping on a switch.
Whether that is about to happen or not, I definitely prefer keeping a more positive mindset.

This procedure should fill the bill Craig and get you up and recording In record time! https://www.apowersoft.com/record-skype-interview.html

Puns for the win. Ha ha

Thanks so much!

Good luck...I can't help sorry, but still good luck

Thanks!

Joking is dangerous lol. Congratulations. Sorry I cannot help you, maybe in a few decades ....
Relax and smile ....
Anne

Yes, sadly this isn't the first time joking around has landed me in a tough spot! On the plus side, it could be a tremendous learning experience!

I don't know how to do what they are asking, but I think this is quite a feather in your cap. The Dude is looking out for you

No matter what comes of it, I am pretty happy. This is one of those things that makes me feel like I am moving forward and accomplishing something, whether it results in traffic, sales, or nothing at all.
