A Bit of a Comedown

Well, after a great couple of days, I had some disappointment tonight after Jay's webinar.

Using what Jay showed us, I decided to check out my keywords in Console/ Webmaster tools and was surprised to discover that my keywords are doing nothing for me. Like, literally nothing. It seems as though all my traffic must have come through Facebook. I suppose that traffic is traffic at this point, but if I can't get keywords working for me, I am not going to get anywhere.

Also, I have discovered a small (hopefully) error with my site and don't know how to fix it. This gave me the opportunity to try creating a screen shot for the first time. :)

So, can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Good luck on getting your keywords to work better for you!

Thank you!

Your welcome!

It means there is a link that is not working for whatever reason. Mistyped, changed title, something. All you have to do is find the links and delete them or fix them. There is a good plugin called Broken Link Checker that you can get for free from WordPress that will tell exactly which link it is so it is easier to fix. It also will check for broken links. I run it on all my blogs and it does not slow any of them down when loading.

I'll look into that. I have been hesitant to add too much stuff, lest I slow things down, but if you have had good results, I will look at it.

Thanks!

I run a bunch of blogs. Some of the brand new and some with a lot of content. None of them were slowed down by that plugin. It is always to test the speed of a site before you add a plugin and after you add one to see what it does. Saves a lot of headaches and you figure out real quick which ones to stay away from.

I am not aware of that problem.

Hi Craig,

I'm not sure what your keywords are, but don't feel too bad about it. There has to be some reason for it and once it's figured out things can always be done to fix it.

Like PatsyC suggests below, I usually go for keywords that have at least 50 or more searches and under 100 QSR. It seems to work especially the more you write and add more posts/pages.

Anyways, just keep at it. And, about the URL Errors...one thing I made a big mistake and had tons of errors a couple years ago, was taking a bunch of posts out of a category and I think I also deleted some categories altogether, lol.

Apparently, as I found out, this causes a Not Found 404. I'll have to do some digging to see if I can find what I did exactly to fix them since I know I had all the posts I had to fix in one of my notebooks.

Maybe you switched something around in the categories, but whatever you did, be thankful it's showing only two errors...I had a page full of them to fix.

Jay's webinar mentioned this not too long ago. I think it was this one Anyways, I've chattered on long enough...hopefully, it helps in some way. And, if I find those notes I'll let you know.

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Awesome. Thanks!
Thinking about it, yes, I may have changed a post from one category to another. I don't remember for sure, but can try to look into it.

Hi Craig, sorry to hear of this disappointment! What a surprise.

It makes me wonder about my website now. I did go back in the Low Hanging Keyword lesson and change a few words making sure the QSR (competition) was under 100 and not the 300 that was in a previous lesson. The keyword should be in the title, in the first or 2nd paragraph and once more further down depending on how long the content is without over doing it.

I have no idea about Webmaster Tools or console...yet.

I hope you can fix those 'crawl' errors

Thanks.

Yeah, I was quite surprised because I had at least one keyword with a QSR of about 32, which I thought would work very well for me. Alas, no...

As for the errors... I have to do some searching. I really have no idea where they came from, but need to fix them.

The error problem, I would private message Kyle. He is great for help with that...you should fix that as soon as possible.

I actually sent a message to Jay, because I remember he talked about it in one of the webinars. I just don't remember which. If he doesn't respond, I'll try Kyle.

Paul might be right...check it out...

I am quite sure that I did not delete anything.

I'll do what I can to find the problem though.

Good screen share and thanks for your post. I'd love to know how that's fixed too

Could be you have deleted two pages or posts ????

Not to my knowledge. I haven't deleted anything that I can recall. I seem to remember Jay mentioning a way to find what these errors are in one of the webinars, but I don't remember which one.

I need to take bettter notes.

hmm, interesting. I will keep posted to this blog to see what the answers are.
