Why you shouldn't ignore negative comments

I've touched on this subject before and many others have too. Yesterday I got a less than complimentary comment which does happen from time to time.

I was mulling over how to approach it and I decided to try and use it to my advantage. Boy, did I underestimate how it would benefit me!

Comments are content

Okay, let's not get too excited. After all, it's only a comment. However, the comment and reply turned into another comment and reply from the same person which in turn has added a sum total of approx. 500 words to my article (and site).

Not only that, it's restored my credibility (I feel) and it has also added more information which will come in useful for anyone reading it.

Here is the dialogue below. I hope you can read this....

So, as you can see, it's really important that we try and use these to our advantage. I missed an opportunity to be honest and should have tried to be more engaging but it all turned out in the end.

In the future, I will try and engage the reader a bit more.

Nicely done.

Thanks

Well done Craig,
You turned a mess into a message!

ha ha good one Juliet!

Great way to turn lemons into lemonade! :)

Thanks :)

There is the thought that negative, nonconstructive comments are one thing and negative comments that just intend to disparage or antagonise you, with only their 'insulting hat' on!

if it is just a matter of a difference of opinion, thank them and move on; This guy was seriously concerned, even if they might have been 'trolling' you about what you used as your database for a review!

I think you handled it properly!

Thanks Mickey, I'm glad they came back with more constructive criticism and comments.

Well done. You were courteous and professional with your response

Thanks

Oh wow, after reading that it actually just gave me an idea to try or rather, using your idea and have it hopefully work for me. You mentioned to the commenter that you were trying to get rankings in Google before the big companies do so you do sort of a pre-review of sorts.

My niche is in the gaming world and once in awhile there are betas of the games I'm interested in which the developers let a certain number of people try out the game before it is officially released to try and find bugs and what not.

Maybe I could do something like that for the betas that I'm able to try, but I have to be careful with the companies who allow certain people to play them as they usually don't want official reviews of the game since it is not officially out yet to the entire public.

That's great Brian, I'm happy that it's given you an idea. Beta versions would be a good way to get ranked early. You could still mention this on your review. I don't see a problem with this, but you will know better.

For me, a website with all good comments is not real. Great and well done to turn it positive.

Thanks Sylvia, I agree.

This I agree.

Hi Craig, you are absolutely right. I remember I write on one blog post in WA about members who complained as it is a good thing to us. When they complained it show they still care. But that whole post was deleted not too sure why.

Glad that you have turned negative comment to your advantage.

Thanks, yup engagement is key now.

Never unfollowed anyone and never will Craig it's belter to know and explore than hide and ignore!

Aces Mike!

Interesting...I think many (from what I have read) would have just deleted it. I have not deleted many comments myself so I can't say but it is interesting that you took a negative and made it a positive so good for you!

I thought about deleting it but I'm glad I didn't ;-)
