Does setting your featured image's alt tag to your keyword count as having an image with the appropriate alt tag? Or do you need to add at least one more image with the appropr

Hey Craig,

Proper use of ALT tags are a must if you want your website to rank well in search results.

Following is a quoted use for ALT tags:
"Note: The term "ALT tag" is a common shorthand term used to refer to the ALT attribute within in the IMG tag. Any time you use an image, be sure to include an ALT tag or ALT text within the IMG tag. Doing so will provide a clear text alternative of the image for screen reader users." ~ accessibility.psu.edu

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Triblu. I know what an alt tag is. I'm asking about setting the alt tag for a featured image specifically. I'm basically asking if featured images are crawled the same way as any other image in a post.

Yes ... even featured images are red by screen readers Craig.

Perfect. Thank you! :)

Setting any image's alt tag to a keyword may be considered keyword stuffing and is not sound SEO practice. The alt tag is for ease of access and should describe what the picture represents.

I've heard this here and there, but what if your picture actually is the keyword? Do you never set an alt tag to the keyword?

Also, from a quick look at this article (and numerous others), I don't know if I agree with your assessment:
https://moz.com/community/q/keyword-stuffing-in-alt-tags

Using the same keyword multiple times in the same article for a bunch of alt tags will drive keyword stuffing, but I would think one time, if the picture is actually an example of the keyword, would be fine...

It definitely depends on what the image is and what the keyword is. If they are one and the same then you're on the right track with using the keyword in the alt tag.

I noticed that on the link you've given me the advice was "Keep alt tags short, descriptive and relevant to the image they are being used for and you'll all but guarantee that alt tags help (and not hurt) your rankings."

Yes, that's exactly what I was pointing out! :) Glad we are on the same page.

When you've got more than one site out there how are you handling the multiple social media logins, google analytics logins, search console logins and all that fun stuff.

There are tools you can use where managing multiple social media accounts is easy. Such as HootSuite and Buffer.

For Google Analytics and Search Console, you're allowed like 50 websites or something. It's no problem.

Awesome, thanks for the details.

You can add your property on Google Search console and analytic and switch between them
You get them all in a row

Thanks!

I create groups within them so I just log in with my personal account, go to the group, and them post from there.

I used to work as a social media manager for 2 websites in the same time 4 years ago, I used to open all social media platform of the first website on FireFox, and all of the other social media platforms on Google Chrome, so I could control both sites without making mistakes.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but I do most of my posting through my phone so not sure how that will work for me. Did you deal with that at all in your previous job?

Is it possible to set a WordPress Featured Image to an Amazon linked image?

Given that you're not supposed to download images from Amazon (or screenshot them) then upload

I do not think you can.

Not that I knew, no.

That's why this rule really sucks.

I am still downloading/uploading the images from Amazon.
But I make sure that there is no Amazon logo on it and I modify it a bit.

I doubt they can prove that it came from their site then.
I know that MANY people are still using their images without a problem.

But I know that there is a risk doing this.
Everybody needs to decide for himself if he is willing to take it.

Yeah, that's been my debate. I am just horrible at taking high quality pictures. The lighting always looks terrible and it makes the post look kind of sketchy so I'd love to use actual product images.

Hey Craig,

As for adding a link to a Featured Image, I offer you the following Google search result: http://bit.ly/2xzGGmJ to check through the many different posts offered there. One may fit your needs.

As for using an Amazon image as a featured image ... I could not find anything on that. I would suggest you contact Amazon Associate support and ask them if it would be possible to do this. Personally ... I would doubt it. However, I'm glad you asked this question as it sent me searching for a possibility.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Triblu, I did the same searching on Google before I asked and just like you wasn't able to turn anything up either. Bummer!

I'm hoping someone has a secret stashed somewhere, but I think in general WordPress is designed to use a Featured Image from your own server!

I've got a pretty simple post with a table, then a line break, then some more content below it. But even though the table looks perfect in the editor, when I preview it looks c

So I figured out what happened with my table:
-I used TinyMCE Advanced to create this table
-I essentially set all of the images in the table to be a size of 150x150 pixels and then adjusted the table size in the editor to match the # of rows I had (31x150).
-The problem lied in that when looking at the HTML it had auto shrunk all the rows to 107 pixels in height for some reason or another
-On top of this the text was height justified to the center instead of the top of each row which was causing some sort of weird mismatch with the image size and the intended table height
-The fix was simply to height justify all of the text to the top of each row and then multiple 107x31 to get the new appropriate table height and manually adjust it in the editor.

Seems to have worked, will double check when I publish later today!

Tables are not native to WordPress so you must be using a plugin to create the table. Which plugin are you using? Can you publish the page so I can take a quick look at the code?

Hey Marion,

Thanks for getting back to me. And you're right. I must have used TinyMCE to create the table. I actually figured out the problem and have just posted an update below on what happened and how I fixed it.

I'm glad you got it fixed :)

I don't know the program you used to build the table, but this may be one of the problems with WP. It often rejects some of the formatting built in word processing programs like Word, or Sheets.
You can find a word progressing program that says it is compatible with Word Press. Or, you can build your chart, snip it and paste it onto you page as you would an image. This will keep the formatting intact, but it may be difficult to fit exactly the way you wan to.

Thanks for the prompt response. Unfortunately I built the table directly in Wordpress :(. You are correct, an image would be quite difficult and would drop a lot of the benefit the table is intended to provide. If any other ideas pop up please let me know!

I have a question on what Google is doing here:
-I have a post titled "what is the best brush for long haired cats"
-I have a tag in the post "long haired cat brush"
-

When people search in Google they don't get shown the question they get shown the answer to the question.

Thanks Marion. Does that mean that targeting a specific keyword you find using Jaaxy or WA Keyword tool is not optimal? So if I search for something like 'What is the best X?' and Google is unlikely to return an article with a question, are you saying we should instead target keywords like 'The best X' and leave the 'what' off of the front?

Next time you use Google to ask a question take a note of the title of the page and the first paragraph. Do they ask the question or answer it?
