MIND MAPPING FOR CONTENT CREATION

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have been struggling with content creation. You get to point with your blogs where you wonder how you can possibly come up with new articles that is fresh information.

I was surfing YouTube the other day and watched a video by Tony Buzan, a neurologist, with credentials in psychology etc. An over achiever, I first watched a half hour lecture. I was less than impressed with his delivery to his audience, he was passive aggressive and insulting to many who had obviously paid to be at this lecture. I found myself so annoyed with him that dropped out of the video not wishing to view any further.

Straight after this I clicked on another video by Dr Buzan it was a short presentation on Mind-mapping and it was captivating. Despite my dislike of this man I watched the video through and was interested enough to do my own mind map for content creation because I was struggling with finding topics that have not been done before. Crazy as it sounds Mind mapping for releasing your inner genius works, rather it did for me. I wanted to do something that has not been done at least a thousand times before.

So after watching the video by Tony Buzan https://youtu.be/u5Y4pIsXTV0 I started my map and really struggled to come up with this first diagram.

My website is about finding online jobs for wealth creation. The central focus of my website is to present ways to make money from online jobs. So as you can see the central spot is my website and it is all about JOBS and inside the circle is a home where my business resides. It means nothing to you, but it is symbolic for me.

With mind mapping you are supposed to let your subconscious mind bring ideas to the surface, you can use colour which stimulates your subconscious and you can only use single words for your concepts. The reason is you want the concepts to be broad so that they can lead to expansion of ideas. Too many words will inhibit your subconscious mind and we want to liberate our minds and not confine them. Images are encouraged because they also stimulate the mind.

I knew 2 things, I could begin my map with, of course Wealthy Affiliates for generating income and Fiverr. (Nothing new here) I really struggled with finding more jobs, so I went back to my day job at Scots College and completely forgot about the mind map. A half hour later I thought, “Hey why don’t I put down mind-mapping and web-design”, thinking I can always change them down the track. So here I had my first tier of thoughts and I am not very bright so I struggled to get these 4.

Once again my job interfered with my thoughts on mind mapping. An hour later I had a break in my work load which coincided with a flood of ideas, so I started jotting down ideas as they popped into my head. Suddenly my map expanded looking like this.

Now the words may not look like much to you but to me they bring back the original thought. This process is called a memory trigger. We all think differently, so you would probably use a different word for the same idea.

Now I have gone from 4 ideas to 16 ideas. In the following hour it went to 47 ideas and that number will probably double or triple before I am finished.

Now I have significant source ideas for my content creation.

You tell me, do you think mind-mapping intuitively leads you into your areas of interest and unleashed your inner creativity? Or do you think it is all a load of bunkum, like I did before I tried it.

This is my mind map so far for content creation it got too big for a hand sketch. So I down loaded a free mind mapping app called Mindjet MindManager to do the job a lot quicker, (but less fun).

Now I have 52 ideas and I just have to choose which idea gets written up first and ticked it off my list. Yesterday I was struggling for an idea, now it is just about choice.

I would love to hear your thoughts and I would like to know if anyone has heard of mind-mapping before?

Thanks for your time.

This is very similar to the brain storming I did when I was working as a civil engineer. I know it works.

Hadn't heard of this app but I will be looking at it in depth.and it is now bookmarked.

Hi Helen,
I cannot believe I found someone else with a background in Civil. I worked for Burchill Partners on the Gold Coast back in the 80s and then moved to Queensland Transport - Main Roads in highway design District 1 after that.
If you lived a little closer I would have to say let go and have a cheeky coffee and a natter.

Keep well my friend Coucka

One day maybe, if I can ever get my social media sorted. Nothing goes easily. Finally I am setting out to sort out sharing issues with G+. And found another one!

Oh well as someone here said, life wasn't meant to be easy.

My civil work was mainly in water supply and sewerage. But I did do some work in our Ports area. So did connect the Port site to the Pacific Highway near Ocean Shores.

I have two very good ex colleague friends at Coolangatta so a trip up is in order but who knows when. My cousin is up there too in Brisbane.

PS, your always welcome to visit down here too.

Wow, thanks for the post. I'm going to utilize this.

Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it has for me.

Thanks for an introduction to Tony Buzan's mind maps, I enjoyed his youtube vid's but find there seems to be a bit of a contradiction in what he says and in the tools used in mind map software. At one stage in his presentation he is asked about putting putting keywords in boxes and gives a definate 'no' to the suggestion. He adds that when you use boxes you have mental blocks, thinking blocks, writing blocks and I can understand that especially when doing free hand mind maps but don't know whether software related mind mapping will have the same negative impact.

I have yet to try to create my own mind map but am looking forward to doing so as I think that this will really help to open the mind especially where web site development is concerned.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,
I found the mind map worked for me. I did it all initially freehand before I moved it to an app. I guess as with all things you have to just try what works for you.

For me, most of my ideas came while I was doing some other mindless job. I guess the subconscious mind is still working.
I also believe you can overthink things and that causes blocks too.

Good luck with your mind map I am working on my next idea.
Cheers and good luck

Brilliant. Love it. Always mind mapping in my everyday life don't know why I didn't think about it for my posts.... was struggling with old fashion bullet point listing but this is much more effective and free flowing....I think it works for me cause it is a little less ordeted and thats me allover!!
......just trying to teach the mind mapping skills to my daughter to help with her revision too.......

It is good to hear. You certainly have the jump on me because until a few days ago I had never heard of mind mapping. Now I am a huge fan and I now have tons of ideas for blogs.
Mind mapping is a big thumbs up from me. ;-)

I might have to try this , I do something I think might be in a similar vein just a lot less brainstorming lol. Typically as I research or cross reference a idea I have a dozen or do related things pop up so I jot those down and than after I’m done with my current writing I go play with them in jaxxy, find and attach my key words than copy them to my final list of ideas.... I have like 65 right now there . I just need to write them . My biggest issue it can take me 2 days to write a article I’m not inspired to write In that minute or 2 hours if my blood is pumping .... I obviously prefer 2 hours but my inspiration is finicky .

I know, I used to spend hours trolling the internet and Jaxxy for ideas. It is rather strange the way the subconscious mind mapping works. It seems that when you are not actively thinking about it then ideas pop into your head.

The process of drawing out a mind - map actually stimulates your subconscious mind and brings to the surface things you have read in the past probably from years ago and forgotten.

Check out the link to the video it is only 9 minutes and it is really interesting and very colourful. Let me know how you go with it because I am finding this process rather fascinating. I hope it works for you.

Cheers Coucka

Oh I am definitely going to check it out . I might have 65 posts lined up but I have hundreds to write to achieve success so anything to get more ideas down is going to be a “ yes please “lol . Thanks for sharing :-)

Your welcome Christina :-)

Hi Coucka, that is a really interesting post, it's incredible what is hidden just below the surface of our minds and you seem to have found a way of tapping into it.

Thanks for sharing and happy writing.
Dan

Hey Dan,

Check out the link to the video it explains the process better than I do and it is very visual. For a single day of research and writing out my mind map I have enough material to write for the next year.

I would love to hear back from you if you get any success from it.

Cheers Coucka

Hi Coucka

I did thanks, it's really interesting. did you buy a package or are you just using the free trial?

Thanks
Dan

I am just using the 30-day free trial for MindJet.

I have a lot of bills at the moment so purchasing is out of the question. However, when my free trial runs out, there are a lot of similar apps I could download.... or I could simply uninstall MindJet and reinstall it for another 30-day free trial.

Hopefully, my no money situation will change in the near future.

Cheers Coucka
