Your New Best Friend Forever

I confidently slide behind the wheel of my hybrid vehicle.

My new BFF.

Using facial recognition software, and biometric indicators, the car senses it's me, checks to assure that my seat is adjusted to the preferred "laid back" setting, tunes in the Oldies station on SiriusXM Radio, and whispers in a sultry voice...

"Good morning, Cosmic. it's hump day, would you like me to drive?"

This day is actually coming sooner than you think, with systems now being developed by engineers at such places as Continental Automotive Group, that create a human-machine interface, allowing your car to tell you when you are speeding, when you need to stop quickly, or that you may be distracted, and need to keep your eyes on the road. (Isn't this what wives are for?)

These cars may even suggest destinations...

"Are you sure you want to go to Eddie's Bar and Grill again, Cosmic? You've already been there twice this week. Wouldn't the public library be a more fruitful use of your time?"

I think I can envision some wires getting yanked on these systems!

Apparently, these interfaces will even be able to detect emotional states of drivers, anticipating potential road rage situations, and attempting to quell them...

"You're getting a bit uptight, Cosmic. I've taken the liberty of dimming the interior lights, and am now playing Slow Relaxing Music by Kenny G."

I don't know about you, but I think a little of this goes a long way.

I don't even like the dinging sound telling me my seatbelt isn't buckled!

Do I really need an electronic backseat driver?

I suppose it's good if accidents can be prevented, but beyond that, I'd prefer to drive and think for myself...

"Would you like me to parallel park it for you, Cosmic? My analysis has determined I can do so 28% more effectively--Cosmic! What are you doing?? Please do not pull on those wir----------------------------------------------"

When I am driving my grandsons around I get all those great features. The only way I can turn off the sound is when we choose a drive through.

That always buys you some peace and quiet, Susan! :)

Gosh...maybe I should rethink working from home! Thanks for sharing. Debbie

There's something to be said for that, Debbie! :)

My car has already some of the features you mention (overspeed warning, telling you ro take a coffee break, warning you not to drive over the dividing line, etc.) and I can tell you: It's annoying! I switched all those features off.
These selfdriving cars are driven by computers. When I see how often my computer crashes, I definitely prefer to drive myself!
Besides my car for daily use I own a old Jaguar, which I drive on weekend. That car doesn't care about overspeed etc. It's pure driving pleasure. Especially when hearing the motor roaring!

I'd take the Jag over the talking cars, too, Eric.

I would love a car like that as long as I could mute the voice.

Mute would be a great feature to have, Darlene. :)

I'm old school. I love being behind the wheel.

Me too, Thomas.

I would attract a lot of attention of I drove one of those in my quaint little town. Someone might think I'm an invader from outer space.

ET phone home... :)

lol!

That's a nice and expensive car, Rick.

I'm sure they are expensive, Rog!

I Love the car Rick. A great vehicle. Now the most unimportant non operating accessory in your vehicle can be jettisoned...The license plate light!

No sense drawing attention to that, Mike.

I'll take two, please!!!

They're on the way, Veronica! :)

Hello Dave....this is HAL

Kinda like that, Craig. :)
