Work Smarter!

Oh, man, are you the mouse on that wheel...Working hard, but not really getting anywhere?

Great for aerobic fitness, though. That mouse has got to be one lean, mean machine!

As for the rest of us...We need to work smarter, as they say, and not harder.

Here's 5 tips from Inc. on how to work smarter:

1. Take more breaks. Recharge yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Work an hour and a half, then take a 15 or 20 minute break.

2. Take naps. Research indicates naps improve memory, creativity, and cognitive functioning.

3. Spend time in nature. This will relax and reenergize you, as well as resetting your attention span.

4. Work in blocks of time, possibly at different locations. 90 minutes at your home office, 90 minutes at a coffeeshop. Know what tasks you want to accomplish at each place.

5. Check your email first thing. This one goes against the grain, but it is important for making adjustments in your schedule.

Here's another 6 from Forbes:

1. Time yourself. Try to complete tasks in the time you have allotted yourself.

2. Goal, purpose, and scope...these are the things that help you stay on track.

3. Time theming. Make daily, weekly, and monthly schedules, so you know what you have going on, and where you can fit new tasks.

4. Create a new email strategy. Set specific times for dealing with mail.

5. Don't start from scratch. See what's been done on the topic you're working on, and use that as a jumping off point. Leverage other people and resources.

6. Leave yourself a note. This way, when you have stopped work and then return to it later, you'll have less to think about, and can restart more quickly.

Don't be like the rat on the wheel.

Work smarter, not harder!

Carol

Thanks, Carol! :)

Great post. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks, Siza! :)

Rick - Nice post. I like the Forbes #5 don't start from scratch. Seems to me that's what we do here at WA. Leverage off of other people and resources. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting, Patrick!

Good post, many thanks.

You're welcome, Tania. :)

Great advice Rick. But easier to say than to do.

Nobody said it was easy, Eric-Just worthwhile.

I would love to incorporate that concept into my daily go of things, but somehow I am just too darn busy!

I need to work hard at working smarter!

Excellent advice.

Thank you.

Susan

PS. I would recommend getting a touch screen tablet which rests in a neck holder for that little mouse. He could work and run at the same time. I like the idea of the running cage. The mouse does not have to worry about where he is going. That gives him more ability to focus on working while he works out.... much like a treadmill.

I feel like he must when I walk on the treadmill, Susan. Watching TV helps-it's better than staring at a wall. :)

Absolutely.

It's hard to get up and break from a passionate engrossed routine but with that conquered I can hit the other buttons . Thank you Rick!

You're welcome, Mike!

Hi Rick, hope you are re-scheduling your time to make the most of 'school's out'! Have some 'breathe time' for yourself for a bit, Sue :)

I plan on a fruitful, relaxing, and productive summer, Sue. :)
