The Sue Is Injured!

I am so sad to report to everybody that "The Sue" has suffered a broken arm!

She was on the playground at her school, and apparently climbed up on top of the monkey bars (I told you she climbed like a monkey!), and a boy in her class, who must have been up there with her, pushed her off.

My first (tongue in cheek) response was "I'll kill that kid," but, of course, I would never harm a child, even one who intentionally hurt The Sue. (These are little kids, after all.)

At my school, though, there are multiple staff members supervising the playground at any given time, and even with that, a child suffered a broken arm a few years ago.

It happens.

I can tell you, however, that kids are never allowed up on top of the monkey bars, and if I saw one up there, I would sprint over and help them down, and warn them that doing that is dangerous. They can fall if they lose their grip while swinging across the monkey bars, but they are much less likely to get hurt than they are falling from up on top, which puts them much higher up. It's a definite No-No.

Now I feel bad that I never thought to warn her against doing that, but it just never occurred to me. Future grandkids will definitely get a warning, along with a personal story about what happened that one time, to The Sue!

I pray for a fast and complete healing.

Oh my! So sorry Sue got hurt. The supervision should have known better. Best wishes for a fast recovery.

Thank you, Darleen. :)

It always breaks my heart to hear of a child getting hurt or sick. Prayers for her speedy recovery. I see 2 lessons here, #1-don't climb to the top of the monkey bars and #2- Stay away from that boy! I hope he will be more kind to others now and she will forgive him.

You're right, Deb-More than one lesson here. I just wish she hadn't learned the hard way! :)

So many times it just goes well, and one time, when you, just for a sec, are not looking, it goes wrong, that happens to all of us Rick, don´t blame yourself for that one sec it went wrong, praise yourself for all the hours it goes right.
I hope The Sue will recover soon, you have now the chance to spoil her and pamper her:) She will love all that attention!

Thanks, Loes. I feel bad that she got hurt-She's still so little! :)

Of course, you do, and you would like to take it from her. But you can't. So, your task is now to make her feel as comfortable as you can. Did you know that a snoring cat heals it much quicker? So when you have a cat in the house, put it on her lap:))

Good afternoon Rick,

I can understand you are upset but a fact is little children normally heal well from those life lessons. It happened to me too. I broke my arm just above the wrist. Papa took me to the hospital and he nearly fainted when I gave one big jell when the doctor had to set the bone, not funny. What actually was worse was the itch I had under the plaster which had to stay on for about 1 month. One thing was nice as everybody wanted to write, make drawings and put colorful stickers on the plaster. When the plaster finally came of it was stinking a bit but I still kept it for a long time because of the decoration till my Mother got tired of it and threw it away.

All will be well and tell The Sue my story.

Best wishes, Taetske

Thanks, Taetske, I'll pass your story along to The Sue! :)

My sister Connie had an identical injury falling off the monkey bars in grade school. It happens. I hope she's all right. Lil, the sue holds a place in my heart!

Thanks so much, Mike!

Oh, that is so, so sad, Rick. Poor girl. She looks so calm and quiet in the photo, quite the unusual Sue.
I will pray for her, and for her parents, and for you of course. She'll be fine soon.
But boy! Little children do need to be supervised. Hope she'll be less risky now, more girl than monkey...Though.... who knows?:))

She is pretty much the Tom Boy, Vera. I don't want her to lose that, but I do want her to stay off the top of the monkey bars, and to either stay away from that kid or learn to be very firm with him. :))

Oh, isnt it how school romance starts? To get your hair pulled, your notebook hidden, being pushed off. A bit early though(I was 8 when all this started,) and of course very risky. Bad boy. Hope he didn't mean that bad outcome.
As for the Sue, I guess your, or her parents' firm "Don't do it" might help. I don't know. And of course, protection of prayer...:)))

OMG!!

I am so sorry to hear this and so thankful that she wasn't injured even worse. Her cast looks almost as big as she is!!

it is so scary to think that small children are up that high. Maybe there will be new rules put into place so that this does not happen to another child.

Please tell The Sue that I am sorry and that I am thinking about her and praying for a speedy recovery.

Give her a hug and a kiss from me and sign her cast for me!!

Thank you so much, Tammi! :)

Hi Rick, I wish her a quick and speedy recovery. Don't be too hard on yourself...kids will be kids and they have no fears! We love em with all our hearts but can't wrap them up in bubble wrap..although we do often try lol. We can learn a lot form them. Take it easy bud.

Thanks, Anthony! I just hate that she got hurt like that.

Sorry to hear about Sue.

Thank you, Rog!

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear this. I wish The Sue a speedy recovery and am guessing if possible, making 'ground level' adventures look exciting for a while may be the way to go! Good luck, Sue :)

Thanks, Sue! I imagine she'll at least stay off the top of the monkey bars. :)
