The Guy Spot

Some of you guys may know what I'm talking about.

Others may not.

I think it's really only relevant for me in restaurants and at the movies...

There are certain places where I prefer to sit.

It's kind of like Archie's chair, if you remember "All In The Family," the groundbreaking Norman Lear sitcom, which ran through most of the 70's.

Whenever someone inadvertently sat in "Archie's chair," his stress level immediately rose considerably. That was "his spot," and his spot only!

At the movies, I like to sit in the back row, in the seat next to the aisle. I think of it as the "guy spot."

This is fairly easy to explain. I'm 6'3" and my legs are long. If I need to stretch out a bit during a film, there's not a lot of space between me and the seat in front of me.

If I can at least stretch one leg out into the aisle, that helps.

Of course, I have to be aware of people making trips to the bathroom, or the concession stand. I don't want to cause a "Horse Bucket" popcorn mishap, which would probably bear a close resemblance to the Great Blizzard of 1888!

(You guys know the Horse Bucket, right?-The jumbo-sized buttered popcorn that includes a free refill...Enough popcorn to feed a small third world country!)

There may be a little bit of "protect the woman" somewhere in my psyche, too. If trouble comes at the movies, it's going to come from the aisle, not crawling across the seats!

(When James Holmes killed 24 people in a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, in 2012, he came down the aisle. He wasn't crawling across the seats. I probably could have disarmed him with the Horse Bucket and a box of Junior Mints!)

The back row also puts my back to the wall in most theaters...Always a comfortable location for the security minded Alpha Male.

It's also the best place to be if you're with a date, for obvious reasons!

So that's my "spot" at the movies. When I go to the movies, I get there early enough to claim the "guy spot."

In restaurants, my thinking is similar, although I'm not sticking my leg out into the aisle, for concern over tripping a waitress, or a busboy with a tray full of dishes!

I do, however, prefer to sit with my back to a wall, if possible. It's a bonus if I have a panoramic view of the restaurant.

The best "guy spot" is in a back corner. This has the added benefit of usually being a quieter location for my dining pleasure.

I know I'm not the only guy who feels like this. Heck, there's even a popular Minneapolis restaurant called "The Corner Table!"

So, guys...Do you have a preferred place to sit...a favorite chair...

Or am I whistling in the wind?

Actually the cops that I know have almost identical preferences. 6'3 - Yep...being able to stick your legs out in the aisle would be more comfortable.

Have a great weekend.

Yep-It's built into cops-Wanting to be able to see everything that is going on, but I think it goes even deeper, into our cave man roots. Enjoy your weekend, too, Sondra! :)

You are probably right..... Men are great!

Women, too! :)

I understand the guy spot, and I accommodate.

You're awesome, Deb! :)

wherever the ambiance is cool. I like it! :)

I like it cool, too, Asen.

As long as it's comfortable, it's all good!

You're a mellow fellow, Thomas! :)

I'm obviously not a guy, but we'd be fighting for the seat closest to the aisle. I like to be on the end. Maybe it comes from being the youngest in my family of six kids. I've never been an "up front and center" kind of person. And, yes, the LARGEST container of popcorn possible!

Really, Sue..the guy seat? You can stand guard with the Horse Bucket, then! :)

Okay, okay. I guess under certain circumstances I'd relinquish my seat at the end of the aisle...for the right movie! :)

You're talking about a "chick flick" aren't you? :)

i was also sitting in the back row for the reason you mentioned . I was a great cinema goer throughout my students' years, and some time after... till we started watching films online. In a restaurant or cafe, if I come for a quick coffee alone, some quiet corner is obviously the best option.I also have my favourite place on the bus, if it's a long ride. When I go by long distance train I always ask for a lower bed, not the top one- afraid to fall down at night.:))

So, I'm not alone! :))

Oh, no...:)))

That's good! :))

Yes of course- we could go to the cinema or a cafe not discussing seats...:)))

:))

I think you have it pretty well covered, Rick. My main rule is "never have your back to the door". I like to see who's entering the joint.

I'm with you, Hal!

WHEW!!...for a minute there I thought we were going to be censored for talking about some alternate G-Spot...you have to be VERY careful theses days, Cos...VERY CAREFUL...ahem!

Shoot, Arthur, the day I talk about stuff like that is the day...SAY, you just gave me an idea for another Blog! :)

Oh NO!

:)
