The Blue And The Gray
The Civil War.
North Against South...
Union Against Confederate...
Blue Against Gray.
Northerners Called it the War to Preserve the Union...
The War of the Southern Rebellion...
The War to Make Men Free.
Southerners Called it the War of Northern Aggression...
The War Between the States.
It's My Pleasure To Present Original Song Lyrics for My Buddy Steve and His Longtime Pal, Charlie, a Dedicated Civil War Buff.
When I Write Something of This Nature, I Do My Best to Keep Things Authentic.
Names of Places and Incidents Were Researched Prior to the Writing of this Song.
I Hope I've Done Justice to an Important Time in American History.
But, We'll Let Charlie Be the Judge of That!
(NOTE: Some Images May Be Disturbing.)
THE BLUE AND THE GRAY
They Ran Through the Fields
And They Hid Behind the Hay,
They Crawled Through the Swamps,
The Blue and the Gray.
Cold Harbor
To Snake Creek Gap,
Some Had No Shoes,
Some Wore No Cap.
And it's Hi-Hi-Hey,
The Blue and the Gray,
A Few Thousand More
Left Dead Today,
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.
New Hope Church,
No Prayin' They See,
Only the Army
Of the Tennessee.
(48th Tennessee Regiment, at Camp Douglas, Chicago, 1862)
Pine Mountain,
Allatoona Creek,
Gilgal Church,
They Was Dug in Deep.
And it's Hi-Hi-Hey,
The Blue and the Gray,
A Few Thousand More
Left Dead Today,
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.
The Rebs Kept Comin'
And the Yanks Did, Too,
Ol' Uncle Billy Danced
With the Gray and the Blue.
Kennesaw Mountain,
And a Lesson Learned,
Across the Chattahoochee,
And Atlanta Burned.
And it's Hi-Hi-Hey,
The Blue and the Gray,
A Few Thousand More
Left Dead Today,
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.
Tecumseh's March
To the Sea, They Say,
Was Paved
With the Blue and the Gray.

Thanks, very well done!! My great-great grandfather fought for the Union, sorry my Southern friends!!
Rick - With your permission, I am sending this on to Charlie! Reading this and "listening" to the song............brought tears to my eyes and sorrow to my heart.
You have a way with words and songs that are nothing short of remarkable in terms of talent. Thanks my friend. Good Lord Willing and the Creek Don't Rise................you will not need to write another like this one.........I pray!
Thanks, Steve
Thank you for your kind words, Steve. It was a gift to you and Charlie, so I hope he likes it, too. I, too, pray for peace throughout the world.-Rick
Return thanks, Rick. And if we can convince enough people to listen to your words and hear your songs your prayers for peace will be answered. Music has ALWAYS been a most powerful influence, and you DO have influence because of your talent and passion. I am with you every step of the way!
A sobering reminder of the result of utter divisiveness on principle—devastation and its ebbing echo, to the 8th generation.
What a gift you have, Rick.

I like reading about the civil war. Didn't like history in high school, but the history teacher's daughter was a knockout! :)
Bwahahahahah. I have always loved history. Never liked being taught it by someone else though. I have had to learn it in phases on my time
